PRINCIPAL NEWS Kirsty Squires
Presentation Day Yesterday’s Presentation Day was a wonderful way to celebrate our students’ achievements this year. Thank you to the many families and friends who came along to show their support and congratulations to all students for their awards. Well done to Year 6 for running the day so efficiently. I’m sure you’ll all agree that they did a fantastic job! The day also included the ‘S Factor’ grand finale which was a wonderful opportunity for our students to showcase their many talents. A special mention to our winners; Sebastien playing his cello came in 3
rd, Hannah and
Aaliyah singing who came 2nd
, and our winner was Mackenzie R who wowed the crowd with his version of ‘Gangnam style’. We also had a fantastic BBQ lunch provided by a great team of parent helpers, a lunch dance performance from the Junior Dance Group who were accompanied by Sierrah singing, and a visit from Santa – what a day! Movie/Class Party Day Tomorrow is the last day for students, and to celebrate we are off to the movies to see Madagascar 3. When we return, at approximately 1:30pm, we will be having our class parties in the COLA. Students are asked to bring along a plate or drink to share with their class mates. Year 6 Farewell Disco Tomorrow night Year 6 will be having their farewell disco. The night will begin at 5:30pm for Year 6 with dinner, then at 7pm all students are asked to come along to the school hall for a disco. There is a $2 entry fee and students will be given a piece of cake, a drink and chips. The night will finish at 9pm. Please come along and support our Year 6

students and help to farewell them in a fitting manner. 2013 I understand that there has been some uncertainty in the school community about classes for 2013. Uncertainty around staffing occurs at many schools on an annual basis. At this stage I can inform you that we will start the year with four classes and that staffing for 2013 will be determined by the Department based on the number of students enrolled on a specific date in mid February. On, or soon after this date, I will be able to provide information to the school community about staffing and classes for the year. Please be assured that we will do the best we can to support our students during this process and that we will communicate information to families as it becomes available to us. Thank you for your understanding and please see me if you require further clarification.
Staff Development Day Thursday and Friday are designated Staff Development Days (SDD), however as we have previously had a SDD on a Saturday staff are only required to attend Thursday. During the day we will be working on the Literacy and Numeracy continuums and this will be presented by Jo Hextall, our Best Start Leader. We will be joined for that session by staff from Peats Ridge PS and Central Mangrove PS. The afternoon session will be ‘iPads, the curriculum and continuums’ and will be presented by Mrs Still who is a teacher at Peats Ridge PS. Merry Christmas I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our families
a very Merry Christmas and wonderful New Year. Your
support and help this year has been greatly appreciated. I
hope your holidays are restful (and injury free) and we look
forward to seeing you in 2013!
