Principal’s News A warm welcome to Term 3 2020. We remain in the same restrictions due to COVID as we were in last term. This means that non-essential visitors need to remain out of the school grounds and continue to use the kiss and drop zone in the morning and afternoons. If you have essential business within the school, we ask that you contact the office prior to arriving at school and come directly to the office upon arrival. We have been busy in the holidays, clearing the old the vegetable garden to make way for a chicken run. Our chickens have found a new home with Mrs Squires and have settled in during fires, floods and COVID. We are on the lookout for 3 small chickens just like Fluffy and Caramel or some Silkies to join our Somersby PS family. If you know of someone who may be able to help us with some chickens, please contact the office. We will be ready to welcome the chickens in approximately 2 weeks. Staffing Last Wednesday, 22 July, the Principal position was re-advertised. Applications for the position will close at 4pm on the 5th of August with interviews following in the week/s after this date. I will remain relieving as Principal until the position is filled. We welcome back Mr Burton this term to 2/3/4. We are fortunate to be able to continue to invite Miss Suazo back to school on a casual basis and are grateful she was available to teach K/1 last week. Staff are required to follow the same rules as students and stay home from school if they are sick or have cold symptoms. Mrs Cranstone has recovered and has returned to school today. Everyday School Requirements Please ensure students have a refillable drink bottle everyday at school. The bubblers are not in use for drinking. School hats are required everyday for students to play outside. No hat no play. Full school uniform is required everyday at school. This includes white socks. Uniform items are available to purchase on-line or from the uniform shop on Friday mornings 8:30-9am. We are expecting the delivery of larger size polos and girls sport skirts by the end of the month. Students have begun the term looking fantastic and wearing hats which is wonderful.

Scripture Resumes Scripture recommences today. Students attending scripture are expected to follow our school expectations, Responsibility, Excellence and Respect. Scripture will continue Monday afternoon each week for this term.
Uniform Shop The uniform shop has recommenced Friday mornings 8:30-9am. If you intend to come into the school for the uniform shop, please come to the office immediately upon arriving at school. Social distancing is being practised within the school and uniform shop. ONE (1) parent is permitted in the uniform shop at any time and waiting parents are required to remain outside and practise social distancing.
Canteen Canteen has resumed and we thank Charlotte and Jenni for their hard work on Friday and for providing a tasty lunch. Lunches will continue to be prepared fresh to order and pre-ordering will be required. All orders must be returned by WEDNESDAY each week. Orders will be sent home with a lunch bag attached each Friday. Please check your child’s bag for the order sent home Friday for Spud-licious. All volunteers are required to sign-in at the office before going to the canteen.
Sporting Schools - Athletics We have successfully gained a grant from the Australian Sports Commission to run a K-6 Athletics Sporting Schools program this term. Athletics sessions, with an accredited coach, will start this week on Wednesday mornings and run for 6 weeks. Students should wear sports uniform & joggers on this day.
Cross Country and Athletics Carnivals We will be going ahead and holding our annual cross country and athletics carnivals in the coming weeks, subject to the weather. Due to the ongoing restrictions, there will be no parent spectators or helpers for these events. This may require events to be held over lunch time or during sport time.
Cross Country Meal Deal Lunch orders are coming home today for the cross country being held on MONDAY 3rd AUGUST. The money raised from the cross country meal deal will be used towards the purchase of new chickens for our school. Please return the meal deal order to school by Friday 31 July.
