About Accessible Arts and ‘Arts Activated’Accessible ArtsAs the peak arts and disability organisation in New South Wales, Australia for over twenty years, Accessible Arts advocates for inclusion, access and leadership opportunities for people with disability to actively participate in the arts.

Fostering access initiatives, in partnership with the Arts, we aim to increase attendance by people with disability at galleries, theatres, museums and festivals.

From our base in Sydney our services to the arts sector have engaged over 155,000 stakeholders at a state, national and international level, in the past three years.

We support the professional development of emerging and professional artists with disability across all art forms. Accessible Arts promotes equal opportunities in the visual and performing arts for people with disability, as participants in public programs, workshops, education and training.

‘Arts Activated’Accessible Arts is making a significant contribution to the national and international conversation, debate and policy development in arts and disability through the delivery of ‘Arts Activated’.

In establishing ‘Arts Activated’, we have identified a gap in the exchange of knowledge and ideas within the arts + disability sector, both nationally and internationally. As the only conference in Australia dedicated to arts and disability the national biennial conference offers a unique opportunity for professionals to come together, share ideas and create stronger partnerships whilst being inspired by a diverse range of nationally and internationally recognised experts in the fields.

‘Arts Activated’ aims to tackle the big ideas, topics and opportunities shaping the present and future arts + disability sector.

The conference is designed to be a forum where leaders from different organisations, artists and arts workers and can exchange insights and ideas. The conference now attracts hundreds of attendees, including major national

The leading arts and disability conference in Australia, ‘Arts Activated’ showcases the accomplishments of people with disability, as artists, leaders, audience and advocates, alongside the collective efforts of their supporters. Across a two-day event, the conference provides the perfect opportunity to explore, debate, discuss, connect and galvanise the growing culture of inclusive arts practice.

Conference ProgramThe conference will be split into two streams ‘Artist Pathways’ and ‘Organisational Pathways’ allowing a more tailored approach to the learning needs of individual artists and independent arts organisations to those of major organisations, funding bodies and venues.

‘Organisational Pathways’The ‘Organisational Pathways’ stream explores how arts and cultural organisations are incorporating professional arts practice, participation and access to the arts for people with disability into their core business as part of an ongoing strategy. It is a platform to share and generate ideas on best practice, showcase research and discuss new pathways for involvement. Presentations will focus on the initiatives of organisations, festivals and events to further the careers of artists with disability, to improve access for audiences and support the creation, and/or touring of work by artists with disability.
