“The moral gravity of procured abortion is apparent in all its
truth if we recognize that we are dealing with murder.”

HOW MUCH TO GIVE ...FOR GOD LOVES A PERSON WHO GIVES CHEERFULLY.”
(2 Corinthians 9:7)
At this time we would like to thank all those parishioners who have sent in their envelopes and have made generous donations. If you would like
to drop your envelopes off there is a box in the back of the church or you can drop them in the mail slot
on the Rectory door. Thank you for your sacrificial offerings of gratitude!
Please keep our Parish Family in your prayers. Especially those who are ill and those who are caring
for them. Also, please keep nurses, doctors, first responders and essential workers in your prayers as
they are working so hard to keep us safe and protected. Please pray for those who are alone and
anxious in these troubling times.
God Bless St. Clare’s Parish and God Bless America!

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
Some experts have commented that Latinos and Latinas are very
attracted to charismatic or Pentecostal movements. This may
be due to the Franciscan missionaries who founded the Church in America during the
16th century. Probably without knowing its origin these came with millennial ideas from a Cistercian abbot
named Joaquín de Fiore. This monk had prophesied that a time of the Holy Spirit was about to arrive in which a
Utopia would be lived, that is, the Kingdom of God. Many of the early Franciscans adopted his ideas, but
unfortunately Joaquinism, little by little, became heresy due to his extreme criticism of the Sacraments
and hierarchy. After almost 3 centuries, the Franciscan friars who came to our continent came with the idea of inaugurating the Church of the Holy Spirit, which would reform the errors
and weaknesses of the old European Church. This Church would also be the one that would defend the
native and the mestizo from the abuses of the Conqueror. This dream of Utopia fell asleep, but it is a
dream that continues in the Latin people and their devotion to the Holy Spirit of the Holy Trinity.
ALL CHURCH ACTIVITIES HAVE BEEN SUSPENDED INDEFINITELY.
THE CHURCH WILL BE OPEN FOR PRIVATE PRAYER
MONDAY-SUNDAY 8AM-12NOON
PLEASE STAY SAFE AND WE WILL CONTINUE TO KEEP YOU UPDATED THROUGH THE WEBSITE AND BULLETIN.
GOD BLESS YOU
Prayer of the Faithful Inspired by the Holy Spirit, let us pray for the needs of all
those around us.
For all Christians as they are renewed by the Spirit and follow farther along the path of Christ,
let us pray to the Lord.
For a spirit of peace to prevail throughout the world, especially in areas of ancient enmity and bitterness,
let us pray to the Lord.
For leaders and people in positions of responsibility great and small, that during this pandemic they will make decisions to
support the value and dignity of human life above other concerns,
let us pray to the Lord.
For those among us who have been marginalized by our society, for the poor, the homeless, and those victimized by the
substances that they have abused, let us pray to the Lord.
For those who are discerning vocations to the priesthood or
religious life in response to the call of the Holy Spirit, let us pray to the Lord.
For all those who are sick, for all who suffer from COVID-19,
and for all who have died, let us pray to the Lord.
For all the prayers that we hold in the silence of our hearts; for
all our intentions spoken and unspoken, let us pray to the Lord.
Life-giving God,
your Spirit fills us with the desire to follow your Son Jesus Christ
and help renew the world. Hear these our prayers
and grant them in Jesus’ name, who is our Lord for ever and ever.

OUR SCRIPTURE READING AT MASS
THIS WEEKEND
The Acts of the Apostles Chap 8, Verses 5-8, 14-17
The people of Samaria accepted the word of God preached by Philip; they received the Holy
Spirit.
The first Letter of Saint Peter Chap 3, Verses 15-18
Act with gentleness and reverence toward all, so that when you are maligned those who defame
you will be the ones put to shame.
The Gospel of John Chap 14, Verses 15-21
I will not leave you orphans, but will come to you.
Dear Brothers and Sisters, Every holiday we celebrate during the pandemic is unique, because we’ve never experienced anything like this. Like yourselves, I’m tired of the staying at home and mitigating, even if it is important. I’m as anxious as anyone to get back to a somewhat normal schedule, whatever that will look like. But I think on this Pentecost Sunday, which is the official birthday of the Church, we should look at all we’ve been through and weathered during these past three months. Hopefully we have stronger faith now than before this started. So many people have stopped Father Roger and I in the street and asked us, “when are we getting back to church?” To me, that’s a great sign. It means that after all this, people still want to come to Mass to worship the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. If Satan was hoping to weaken our faith in God, he has failed miserably. His goal always is to try to convince us that God doesn’t care about us, that He has abandoned us, and that praying to Him is a waste of time. But the faith is very strong here, and nothing is going to stop us from following our leader, Jesus Christ. The same Holy Spirit that came down upon the apostles two thousand years ago—inspiring them to spread the faith is very present with us today. That’s why we can’t lose. Brothers and sisters, we may have to wait a little longer for public Mass to resume. I promise you that things will get back to the way they were. I pray daily to the Holy Spirit for the virtues of patience and fortitude, with the knowledge that the gates of hell will never prevail upon the Church, just as Jesus promised. God Bless You,
