SAINT CORONA Patroness of Epidemic Victims
Lord Jesus Christ, You came into this world for our salvation. Look kindly on us now, we pray, that we, and all those who serve You, might be kept safe from this epidemic. Heal those who are sick, comfort the suffering, bring back those who have gone astray, and above all,
Increase our faith, O Lord. Give us the grace to follow You and, like the martyr St. Corona, who gave her life for love of You, to take up our
crosses daily without fear or hesitation. Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God, have mercy on us and on the whole world.
St. Corona, patroness of epidemic victims, pray for us.
TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
Just as the origins of Lent have to do with accompanying people in the final stages of
preparation for baptism at Easter time, so does the structure of the Easter season help the newly received Catholics take root in the
community. This is the season of “mystagogy,” which means “reflection on the
mysteries.” This means that new Catholics are remembering the sacraments by which they become one with us, and are sorting out the implications for their everyday life. They can understand the excitement of Cornelius and his family in the first reading, filled with the Holy Spirit, and so eager to begin their new life that they overwhelm St. Peter. The second reading and
the Gospel today likewise help our new brothers and sisters explore their new life as an experience of God’s tender love.
Long ago, our tradition named these newly baptized adults and children the “neophytes,” from Greek words meaning “newly
planted.” Newly planted in the garden of faith, they look to us to provide the fertile soil in which their new life can take root and grow. You can help. If you have “neophytes” in your parish, a card or note of welcome, or warm words of congratulation, are
still timely. It’s Easter!

For all those who are sick, for all who suffer from COVID-19,
and for all who have died, Let us pray to the Lord...
For all the prayers that we hold in the silence of our hearts; for
all our intentions spoken and unspoken, Let us pray to the Lord...
O God, we know you love us deeply;
help us to love you in return by observing your commandments.
Kindly hear this and all of these our prayers which we make in the name of your Son,
Jesus Christ our risen Lord.

Spirit.

Act with gentleness and reverence toward all, so that when you are maligned those who defame
you will be the ones put to shame.
The Gospel of John Chap 14, Verses 15-21
I will not leave you orphans, but will come to you.
Dear Brothers and Sisters, This is now the tenth straight weekend without public Mass. I know it’s very painful for you not to be able to go to Mass and receive the Eucharist. As I’ve said before, it is also painful for priests not to have their people with them. It’s also very difficult for us not to be able to anoint our sick parishioners. However, Pope Francis has granted a special privilege of mercy to all who are sick and can’t receive Anointing. If the priest prays the prayers which we call the Apostolic Pardon for a dying Catholic, the same graces are afforded that person even if the priest isn’t physically present. That’s a truly wonderful thing that the Pope has done and I hope it brings consolation to you, especially if you’ve lost someone to the pandemic. Newly consecrated bishop Gerald Colacicco composed a prayer for this difficult time and I ask you all to pray it daily with me. Here is the prayer:
