We are also very excited to let you know that the Easter Bunny has confirmed attendance on the last day of term – hop hop hurray! Completing the trilogy of good news is the announcement that the Summer Hoedown will be going ahead on 23 June, so plenty of time to practice your Belfast Duck or Alabama Jubilee! Dont worry if that sounds like a foreign language to you as we will have an expert on hand to lead the dancing! Till then, have a great weekend! [email protected] [email protected] Glide Further than the Rest- Full STEAM ahead for pupils in Year 4, our engineers of the future. Rise above the restis the official motto of the RAF and this is what the children in Year 4 will be hoping to do in their current STEAM project. What is a STEAM project?I hear you cry? It is a real life scenario project based around the teaching approach of - The Engineering Design Process. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths as such projects encompass skills from all these subjects. A further aim is to link these projects to industries so that children have an appreciation of how they can use the skills they are learning everyday in the future. We have modified the RAF motto to Glide further than the restas that is what the children will need to do to be successful in their current project. Year 4 are taking part in The Fly to the Line Challenge, run by RAF Cosford. The children have been put into teams of 3 have been given one foam sheet of A3 to make a glider. The group whose glider flies the furthest will represent the school at the regional finals. If successful at the regionals the children will travel to RAF Cosford for The Grand Final! Our first lesson looked at paper gliders. The team were required to explore how adding weight to different areas of the glider affected the flight. 'I'm loving this lesson!' beamed Rosie as her paper glider soared high above the fence of the court and into the new playground trail. Next, the teams will be reviewing current gliders on the market (expect to duck if visiting the classroom on Thursday morning) before using a Virtual Wind Tunnel app on the iPads to learn about drag and lift, and how the angle of the wings affect these values. It's shaping up to be our most enjoyable project yet and is helping the engineers of the future hone their skills! Heads Corner Its been a great relief to be back in the swing of things with more seasonal Spring weather. It is unbelievable that the weather has been so good this week that the children have been playing sport in the sunshine on the field, in comparison to last week when we had to close the school due to atrocious ice and snow. Some schools in Kent and East Sussex are still closed due to no water and so we are quite fortunate with our outcome. Many thanks to you all for your patience and understanding, and please be assured that closing the school is one of the most difficult decisions I have to make and I deliberate over it with a good deal of anxiety.

Head’s Corner

It’s been a great relief to be back in the swing of things with more seasonal Spring weather. It is unbelievable that the weather has been so good this week that the children have been playing sport in the sunshine on the field, in comparison to last week when we had to close the school due to atrocious ice and snow. Weekly Sport Roundup

Competitive sport is highly prized, and both boys and girls regularly take part in Football, Netball, Hockey, Cricket, Rounders and Cross-country competitions. This week was no exception as our plucky girls hosted both Lorenden Prep School and Kent College. All the girls in the U9 Netball Teams had the opportunity to play on a lovely sunny Thursday afternoon. Great teamwork and tremendous effort was evident and you can read an in-depth report on our website www.stfaithsprep.com We would like to thank our catering department for the delicious afternoon tea, and warm soup served to our grateful and hungry guests.

A Special Sunday!

We heard that this Sunday is a very special day for our Mummies! It is a day for us to tell them how much we love them and thank them for all that they do. “My Mummy reads me stories” said Harry. Whilst Matyas told us “My Mummy gives me lots of kisses and hugs.” We have been very ‘busy bees’ in Recep-tion this week, although we cannot tell you what we have been doing as it is secret...sssshhhhh!! Happy Mother’s Day!

Year 1 Assembly This term in PSHE Year 1 have been thinking about different families. Every child wrote about their own family, and spoke about all the people who were important in their lives. Also the children talked about someone with whom they could confide in if they were feeling sad or worried. One child said she liked to go outside and talk to her chickens! The children also compared our school to an extended family; friends being like extra brothers and sisters, teachers like

parents, always there to help and listen. Mr Groves was compared to a grandfather who said funny things to make them laugh! The assembly finished with Year 1 singing “We are family”.

Kingswood memories from Year 5 With the sound of laughter and Mr Andrews’ scream filling the hall, it is safe to say that the Year 5 Kingswood assembly went to plan! The pupils were keen to share not only their highlights of the week they spent at Kingswood activity centre, but also their own personal achievements and the areas where they dared to challenge themselves and thrived. In what is undoubtedly a demanding and exhausting week, all the pupils were exceptional. Their levels of enthusiasm and energy were unwavering throughout and every pupil managed to push their individual boundaries. Memories such as ‘overcoming my fear of heights’ and ‘surviving away from home for a whole week’ were common between all of the pupils.

The newly appointed Mrs Gibbs (Harriet), Mrs Allen (Molly), Mr Burrett (Kuda) and Mr Mackenzie (Toby) would like to thank the brave volunteers” who took on their Night-Line course during assembly. Just be thankful they weren’t allowed to bring the mud which covered the course completed by the pupils at Kingswood.

BOOK REVIEW

The Wind in the Willows—Kenneth Grahame When I was a little boy my favourite book was The Wind in the Willows and the author was Kenneth Grahame. At the time of writing the book he had just retired as the secretary of the Bank of England. The book was first published in 1908.

I loved reading about all the characters and how they made everlasting friendships, along with the adventures they had and how they always seemed to end up safe and sound. I've read this book to all of my children at some point and they enjoyed it too. Badger is my favourite character, closely followed by Toad. The illustrator Ernest Shepherd inspired me to start painting and drawing. Even to this day it is really worth reading. By Mr Clark
