From your Pastor
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Thanks
I’m writing this a bit earlier than usual, on
Saturday, the 5th, since I leave tomorrow for the new
pastors’ program.
Over the last week, in addition to weddings,
funerals and baptisms, St. Paul’s has celebrated a
number of special Masses.
Michael and Marilyn Cataldo organized the Infant of
Prague Mass for couples seeking the gift of a child and
the reception following it, and Michael presented a thoughtful reflection at the
end of the Mass. I am particularly grateful that the traditional choir
volunteered to sing at that Mass.
We had simple Masses in the morning on both All Saints’ Day and All
Souls’ Day, and Masses with music in the evening. I am grateful to Mary Ann,
our cantors, the sacristans, our altar servers and lectors (some of whom didn’t
know they’d “volunteered” until they got here) and our deacons for their part
in these special celebrations. The traditional choir returned for All Souls’:
Nancy Hogan-Bauer and Pat Frederick organized a very moving
commemoration of the members of our parish family who had departed this
life during the last year, and a lovely reception afterwards.
And then there were the Knights of Columbus and other volunteers
who showed up here this morning to rake up a literal truckload of leaves.
Subtle hint: they’ll be back on the 25th, the day after Thanksgiving – and
they’d love to have you join them.
And lastly, very special thanks to everyone who contributed to the
work of the Columbia Pregnancy Center through the baby-bottle campaign.
Thank you to all the people who do so many things here, and thereby
make St. Paul’s the welcoming, comfortable place it is. I know you do what
you do to serve the Lord, but your efforts are noted and appreciated by your
parish and its priest.
Odds & Ends
I mentioned a couple months ago that new channels for communicating
with and supporting our sister parish in Vietnam are now in place. I have been
writing to the parish priest, Fr. Joseph, and to the bishop to obtain information
on how we can be of help. But I think the language barrier is a problem. So:
is there anyone in the parish who can read and write Vietnamese, and would
be willing to serve as our translator? Please contact me at
A new pro-life resource center has just opened on the premises of the
Korean Baptist Church, just across the street from the Hillcrest abortion clinic.
The center provides free assistance to pregnant women in need, both through
a prayerful presence and through counselling. The center would like to
acquire an upright or spinet piano for its worship area. It is also looking for
dividers to partition off parts of its large open space. If you can help with
either request, please contact Maria Hayden, from St. Paul’s pro-life
committee, at [email protected], or 410-680-8397.
Your priest and pastor,
~Fr. Warren

RCIA
Do you know someone who is thinking
about becoming Catholic? Are you
interested in becoming Catholic
yourself or would you like to have a
better understanding of our Catholic
beliefs? If so, RCIA is the process for
you. The Rite of Christian Initiation of
Adults is a series of rites, conducted in
the context of learning about the faith.
If you are interested in learning more about this process or
would like to join RCIA, please contact Sr. Dorothy
[email protected] or call the parish office.
St. Paul’s Ministries
Each week in the bulletin we will highlight one of our many
ministries. This week’s feature is our …
CAR PARKERS
The Car Parkers assist parishioners in parking their cars to
maximize everyone's safety while making the most efficient
use of the available parking space. Car Parkers
greet parishioners to reinforce the existing image of a
friendly, open parish. If an emergency occurs, they serve as
part of the first responder team to guide parishioners.
Volunteer parkers assist parishioners for the 9:30 a.m. and
11:30 a.m. Sunday Masses and holiday Masses. They
rotate on a schedule driven by the number of parkers
available - generally one Sunday a month. Parkers arrive at
9:00 a.m. on their scheduled Sunday and stay until the lot is
cleared after the 11:30 a.m. Mass. Volunteers over the age
of 15 are welcome. This is an ideal volunteer opportunity
for those with limited time.
New parkers are always welcome! We are currently seeking
a few parkers so that no one will need to volunteer more
than once a month. Training will be provided. Please
contact Russell Bateman to get involved with this important
ministry: [email protected].
KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS

FOURTH GRADE UNVEILS SCIENCE MURAL
The fourth grade students at Resurrection-St. Paul School
are excited to unveil the school’s 6th mural with the Artist-
in-Residence Program on November 15th. As in our
previous years, our main goal of the program is to integrate
the Visual Arts with the fourth grade curriculum. We once
again chose Ms. Kristen Helberg, a local artist, to lead us
in this project. This year we decided to focus on science.
Through the mural project, our fourth graders will
document and display science related themes to remind
and inspire students at all levels. Not only will it enhance
the science curriculum, but also the students will have the
opportunity to apply their knowledge of lessons in an art
form. Our science mural will support our dedication to
being a STEM school. Furthermore, the program
demonstrates how each of the basic principles of art and
design can be supported through Science, Technology,
Engineering, and Mathematics. Please come and see the
mural hanging in the first floor hallway of the school
building.

The Church Hierarchy - “Who’s Who?”
Youth Ministry
November 13th and 20th: Facing Your Giants You know your Goliath. You recognize his walk, the thunder
of his voice. He taunts you with bills you can't pay, people
you can't please, habits you can't break, failures you can't
forget, and a future you can't face. But just like David, you
can face your giant, even if you aren't the strongest, the
smartest, the best equipped, or the holiest. David. You could
read his story and wonder what God saw in him. His life has
little to offer the unstained, straight-A saint. He fell as often
as he stood, stumbled as often as he conquered. But for
those who know the sound of Goliath, David gives this
reminder: Focus on giants -- you stumble; focus on God --
your giants tumble. If you're ready to face your giants, let his
story inspire you. The same God who helped him will help
you.
Save the date! Our next event is Friday, November
18th! We’re meeting at 7:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Center for the
New Evangelization. We’ll be “visiting” Italy, eating pizza,
playing a gross spaghetti game, and learning how to build
our lives on a firm foundation.

PASSAGES
Parishioners age 50 and better are invited to attend the
second of this season’s PASSAGES speaker presentations
on Saturday November 19th. Andy Lazris, M.D., a
practitioner of primary care Internal Medicine and Geriatrics
for the past 25 years, will talk to us about feeling well and
living longer beyond tests and pills.
The PASSAGES speaker sessions not only provide an
opportunity for members of St. Paul and Resurrection
parishes to enrich our faith and gain practical information,
but also to socialize in a relaxed atmosphere. As usual, we
will begin the morning with Mass at 9:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s.
Afterward, guests who have made reservations are invited
to gather in Dohony Hall for coffee and a continental-style
breakfast, followed by Dr. Lazris’ talk.
This is the second time Dr. Lazris has been a PASSAGES
presenter and we anticipate that many will be eager to
attend. As a result we do require that advance reservations
be made. You may make your reservation by either calling
your parish office or emailing Suzanne Lathroum at
[email protected] no later than 5:00 p.m. Tuesday,
November 15th.
Infant’s Corner
GET OUT THE PRAYERS
Apparently, one of the keys to winning an election is to get
out the vote. Complacency and not believing that “my vote”
could really make a difference is supposed to be a bad
thing. The same might be said about prayer. We would be
wrong to be complacent and think that “my prayer” could
make a great difference.
From the very beginning of the history of the Infant of
Prague devotion, scary and bad times caused people to turn
to prayer and to the Child Jesus for help. From financial
problems to heath to wars, you name it, they prayed and
prayed, and often much suffering and many years passed,
but prayer and trust in God won out. Good prevailed.
We have now completed the electoral process. We all want
the best for everyone, for our country; we want good to
prevail. Seems like a good time to get out the prayers.
Life Matters
40 DAYS FOR LIFE CLOSING EVENT: Please join us for an
open house at West Baltimore Pregnancy Choices, a new
prayer room and pregnancy referral center opening across
the street from Hillcrest, Sunday November 20, 1-4
p.m. This will be a more permanent physical presence near
the site of so many abortions in our community. Chin
Baptist Church, 5602 Johnnycake Road, Catonsville. Enter
through gate on the right with balloons (see insert).
POST-ABORTION HEALING: Project Rachel Baltimore is the
church's ministry which operates as a network of
professional clergy, licensed counselors and volunteers all
trained to provide one-on-one spiritual and psychological
support for those who are suffering from the trauma of
abortion. Project Rachel Baltimore offers special Rachel's
Vineyard weekend retreats and Come to the Waters day
retreats several times a year. Rachel's Vineyard is the
world's largest ministry for healing after abortion. For more
in fo rmat ion about Rache l 's V ineyard , go
to www.HopeAfterAbortion.org, [email protected],
or call 410-625-8491.
PHYSICIAN ASSISTED SUICIDE: Legislation has been
introduced in the Maryland General Assembly for the past
two years that would allow doctors to legally prescribe a
lethal dose of drugs to a patient who is deemed mentally
competent and who has received a terminal
diagnosis. The legislation, referred to by its proponents as
“death with dignity” is unnecessary, flawed, and lacks
safeguards. A broad coalition of disability advocates,
members of the medical community, patient advocates,
and religious organizations, known as “Maryland Against
Physician Assisted Suicide,” has formed to fight this
bill. The coalition is continually growing and we urge you to
join the effort to defeat this dangerous bill. Call to
