Pentecost sunday ~ June 9, 2019 Dear Parishioners: My ordination to the priesthood was on June 8, 1979 – 40 years ago this Saturday. (It was a Saturday that year, too!) Thank you for the receptions after Mass at St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday and St. John the Baptist on Sunday. As I write these words, I am anticipating that they will be fun and joy-filled experiences. How could they be any-thing else on Pentecost Weekend? As an anniversary gift to myself for the occasion, I decided to give myself a “pass” (or in NFL lingo, a “bye”) on a seri-ous bulletin article this week. But serious congratulations and prayers and best wishes for an exciting and wonder-filled high school experience to SJB’s sixteen eighth graders (including Kaila Karoses, whose name was inadvertently omitted from last week’s bulletin an-nouncement) who celebrated their Graduation Ceremony and Mass last Thursday evening. Speaking of “Congratulations,” kudos to Christine Immel of SJB, who completed the two-year program at Cardinal Stritch University’s Saint Clare Center for Catholic Life and was awarded her Certificate in Lay Ministry last month. And “Summer Hours” are now in effect at both parishes, which means at STA the office will be open Monday-Thursday from 7:30 to 4:30 and on Friday from 7:30 to 11:30. At SJB, the office will be open Monday-Thursday from 8:30 to Noon and 1:00 to 4:00 and on Friday from 8:30 to Noon. (On weekends when the parish is working the concession stand at Road America, someone will be in the office from 1:00 to 4:00 on Friday to give passes to volunteers scheduled to work.)

Father Phil

Come and keep that fire burning!

Zeru Zeru, Inc. and our parishes share in a twinning relationship. This means that both Saint John the Baptist and Saint Thomas Aquinas share a focused ministry of educa-tion, awareness, and support for Zeru Zeru, Inc. The education piece of this ministry is the key to creating a lasting understanding and

harmony across the world, but most specifically in Tanzania, when it comes to the treatment of people with Albinism. It is important to recognize both how common albinism is in the world, and also what role education and awareness will have in the safety and prosperity of those with albi-nism. Your role as a parishioner within this twinning relationship is to educate yourself and those around you, especially children, about what albinism is, how the body is affected, who it affects, and the varying risks people with albinism face across the world.

Who has albinism? Albinism occurs across all races. It is estimated 1 in 20,000 people in the world has albinism. In Tanzania specifically, though, roughly 1 in every 1,400 people live with albinism.

INTERESTING FACT: An estimated 1 in 70 people carry the genes associated with albinism.

allowance, health insurance and a $2,000 stipend upon completion of the 9-month

program. It is a unique opportunity to serve our Lord and help young

Catholics grow in faith. Visit www.spiritusministries.org, contact

Rachel at [email protected], or (920) 722-8918 x113 for more info.

Even though it might not always be obvious, there are lots of young adult Catholics in our neighborhood … young adults who are eager to make friends, eat good food, and continuously grow in our faith. You are invited to join other young adults for some fun this summer!
