Marla Stone Lyons, aka Star La’Moan, a diversely talented performing artist, producer and educator based in Santa Cruz. Star La’Moan (a sort of spoonerism of Marla Stone) was created in Palo Alto where she and her

10 piece band shared stages with the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughn and Taj Mahal. She started playing classical piano and violin at 7 years old and guitar and harmonica in the blues, rock and R & B genres at 14 years old. Later Jazz and Opera became part of her experiences as a musician, writer and performer. Collaboration is always her favorite way to make music and working with these stellar musicians is no exception. Her latest creation, Star La’Moan and The Kitchenettes, developed organically in the Kuumbwa Jazz Center’s kitchen

where she has volunteered for several years. Predominately a New Orleans sound, the band also plays Mississippi Delta & Chicago Blues, Dirges, Standards, Gypsy Jazz, Swamp Rock, Torch Songs, Marches, R&B and more, hence the tag, ‘Everything AND the kitchen sink.’ And the crew keeps growing! This particular all-

star line up includes Scott Stobbe, guitar ; Steve Uccello, bass ; Rick Herns, drums; Terrel Eaton, Sax; Steve Wilson, Trombone; Matt Volkar, Bassoon and Lauren Albert on keyboards.

Joining this stellar evening will be “Speakeasy 3” who started out in Santa Cruz, California in 2014 with the sound of a band from 1924, featuring guitar/banjitar, clarinet, and a vocals specializing in tunes from the

Prohibition Era and beyond. Over time, more instruments were added to the ensemble and now Speakeasy 3 often performs with bass, saxophones, drums, and occasionally trumpet. The set list is constantly growing, inspired by trips to New Orleans and travels across the country and Europe where band leader Scott Stobbe

has toured several times. This particular line-up is Stella D’Oro-Vocals, Scott Stobbe-Guitar, Brad Hecht-Clarinet and Saxophone, Jamie Brudnick-Bass, Olaf Schiappacasse-Drums.

Helen Del Toro will be MC, Comedian, and Burlesque dancer.

This evening promises to usher out the darkest night of the year with some burlesque and New Orleans, Prohibition, Mississippi Delta Jazz, Funk, Swamp rock sounds! Get ready to Get Down!
