A bell rings and the opening hymn is said (or at home may be sung!)

Eternal Father, strong to save,Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,Who bidd'st the mighty ocean deepIts own appointed limits keep;Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,For those in peril on the sea!

O Christ! Whose voice the waters heardAnd hushed their raging at Thy word,Who walkedst on the foaming deep,And calm amidst its rage didst sleep;Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,For those in peril on the sea!

Most Holy Spirit! Who didst broodUpon the chaos dark and rude,And bid its angry tumult cease,And give, for wild confusion, peace;Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,For those in peril on the sea!

O Trinity of love and power! Our brethren's shield in danger's hour; From rock and tempest, fire and foe,Protect them wheresoe'er they go;Thus evermore shall rise to TheeGlad hymns of praise from land and sea.

Words William Whiting (1825-78)Tune MELITA J.B. Dykes (1823-1876)

Blest be God the Father, and the Only Begotten Son of God,and also the Holy Spirit, for he has shown us his merciful love.In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. The Lord be with you

At the end: This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ.

SERMONCREEDWe believe in one God, the Father, the almighty, maker of heaven and earth,of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father;God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,by the power of the Holy Spirithe became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man.For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose againin accordance with the Scriptures;he ascended into heavenand is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son,who with the Father and the Sonis worshipped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.

We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.THE PRAYERSThese words may be used:Lord, hear us Lord graciously hear usRest eternal grant unto them O Lordand let light perpetual shine upon them

We join our prayers with those of Our Lady, Consoler of the Afflicted, as we greet her and say:Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

THE PEACEPeace to you from God our heavenly Father.Peace from his Son Jesus Christ who is our peace.Peace from the Holy Spirit, the life-giver.

The peace of the triune God be always with youand also with you.

Infinite Thy vast domain,Everlasting is Thy reign.

Hark! the loud celestial hymnAngel choirs above are raising,Cherubim and seraphim,In unceasing chorus praising;Fill the heavens with sweet accord:Holy, holy, holy, Lord.

Lo! the apostolic trainJoin the sacred Name to hallow;Prophets swell the loud refrain,And the white robed martyrs follow; And from morn to set of sun,Through the Church the song goes on.

Holy Father, Holy Son,Holy Spirit, Three we name Thee; While in essence only One,Undivided God we claim Thee; And adoring bend the knee,While we own the mystery.

Therefore do we pray Thee, Lord:Help Thy servants whom, redeemingBy Thy precious blood out-poured,Thou hast saved from Satan’s scheming.Give to them eternal restIn the glory of the blest.

Spare Thy people, Lord, we pray,By a thousand snares surrounded:Keep us without sin today,Never let us be confounded.Lo, I put my trust in Thee;Never, Lord, abandon me..

Words a paraphrase of thee Te Deum: Ignaz Franz (1771)Tr. C. Walworth & Hugh T. Henry 1858

Tune: from the Katholisches Gesangsbuch 1776OFFERTORY PRAYERS

Pray my brothers and sisters that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God, the Almighty Father;May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of His Name, for our good, and the good of all His Church.

Sanctify by the invocation of your name,we pray, O Lord our God,this oblation of our service, and by it make of us an eternal offering to you.Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

THE EUCHARISTIC PRAYER

The Lord be with youand also with you.Lift up your heartsWe lift them to the Lord.Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.It is right to give Him thanks and praise.

All kneel

It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, always and everywhere to give you thanks, holy Father, almighty and eternal God.For with your only-begotten Son and the Holy Spirityou are one God, one Lord. All that you reveal of your glory, the same we believe of the Sonand of the Holy Spirit, without any difference or inequality. We, your holy Church, acclaim you,

Father of majesty unbounded, your true and only Son, worthy of all worship, and the Holy Spirit, advocate and guide.Three Persons we adore, one in being and equal in majesty. And so with angels and archangels, with cherubim and seraphim,we sing for ever of your glory:Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory.Hosanna in the highest.Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.Hosanna in the highest.

Lord, you are holy indeed, the source of all holiness; grant that by the power of your Holy Spirit, and according to your holy will, these gifts of bread and winemay become the body and bloodof our Lord Jesus Christ;who in the same night that he was betrayed, took bread and gave you thanks; he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying:

TAKE, EAT; THIS IS MY BODY WHICH IS GIVEN FOR YOU; DO THIS IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME.

In the same way, after supper he took the cup and gave you thanks; he gave it to them, saying:

DRINK THIS, ALL OF YOU; THIS IS MY BLOOD OF THE NEW COVENANT, WHICH IS SHED FOR YOU AND FOR MANY FOR THEFORGIVENESS OF SINS. DO THIS, AS OFTEN AS YOU DRINK IT,

Page 10: stjameschurchhanslopev1.files.wordpress.com€¦ · Web viewAnd hushed their raging at Thy word, Who walkedst on the foaming deep, And calm amidst its rage didst sleep; Oh, hear us

IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME.Great is the mystery of Faith:

All sayChrist has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again

And so, Father, calling to mind his death on the cross, his perfect sacrifice made once for the sins of the whole world; rejoicing in his mighty resurrection and glorious ascension, and looking for his coming in glory, we celebrate this memorial of our redemption.

As we bring before you this bread and this cup, we offer you this our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving and we thank you for counting us worthy to stand in your presence and serve you.

Lord, may this sacrifice, which has made our peace with you, advance the peace and salvation of all the world.Strengthen in faith your pilgrim Church on earth;your servant n our bishop, and all the bishops.

Welcome into your kingdom our departedbrothers and sisters, and all who have left this world in your friendship.

Send the Holy Spirit on your people and gather into one in your kingdom all who share this one bread and one cup, so that we, in the company of Mary,

the virgin Mother of God, of James, Simon & Jude, and all the saints, may praise and glorify you for ever,

through Jesus Christ our Lord;by whom, and with whom, and in whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

10

Page 11: stjameschurchhanslopev1.files.wordpress.com€¦ · Web viewAnd hushed their raging at Thy word, Who walkedst on the foaming deep, And calm amidst its rage didst sleep; Oh, hear us

all honour and glory be yours, almighty Father, for ever and ever. Amen!

All say Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name;thy kingdom come; thy will be done;on earth as it is in heaven.Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses,as we forgive those who trespass against us.And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

BREAKING OF THE BREAD

We break this bread to share in the body of Christ.Though we are many, we are one body, because we all share in one bread.

Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, have mercy on us.Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, have mercy on us.Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, grant us peace.

THE INVITATION

Behold the Lamb of God, behold Him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those who are called to his supper.Lord, I am not worthy to receive you,but only say the word and I shall be healed.

THE ANGELUS:

AN ACT OF THANKSGIVING FOR THE INCARNATION OF JESUS

The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary: And she conceived by the Holy Spirit.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Behold the handmaid of the Lord: Be it unto me according to Thy word.

Hail Mary . . .

And the Word was made Flesh: And dwelt among us.

Hail Mary . . .

Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray: Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts; that as we have known the Incarnation of thy Son Jesus Christ by the message of an angel, so by His Cross and Passion may we be brought unto the glory of His Resurrection, through the same Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen.
