the BeneFitS oF Y Summer DAY CAmpSKids enrolled in summer day camps at the Y enjoy a variety of imaginative activities that nurture their spirits, challenge their minds and strengthen their bodies — all while learning about themselves and the world around them.

Enjoying summer fun such as sports, swimming and arts and crafts, all led by caring staff, children at Y day camps learn the importance of healthy choices and active lifestyles while developing teamwork and leadership skills.

Y Summer DAY CAmpS Are For eVerYone We believe every child should be given the opportunity to experience YMCA summer day camps. That’s why we offer over 40 camp locations throughout Jefferson, Oldham and Bullitt Counties. Reduced program fees and financial assistance are available for those who qualify.

Youth DeVeLopment: nurturinG the potentiAL oF eVerY ChiLD AnD teen At the Y, we believe that all kids deserve the chance to discover who they are and what they can achieve, and that the values and skills they learn early are vital building blocks for quality of life. With our four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility as our guide, we work with your children every day to help them have fun while realizing their potential.

At Y summer camps, kids learn to share, make new friends, learn new skills and most importantly, learn how to be themselves.

heALthY LiVinG: improVinG the nAtion’S heALth AnD weLL-BeinG We give kids the opportunity to exert energy, discover who they are and what they can achieve, and be accepted among each other. We help children learn to

make healthy choices; water is our drink of choice to provide proper hydration and our snacks include fresh fruits and vegetables and are monitored for sugar, fat grams and calories from fat. Kids stay active at Y camps with games, sports, swimming and plenty of outdoor physical activity to encourage a healthy lifestyle.

SoCiAL reSponSiBiLitY: GiVinG BACk AnD proViDinG Support to our neiGhBorSWe make sure all children feel welcome at Y summer camps and have the opportunity to make new friends and celebrate diversity by working together and supporting each other. We encourage learning about caring for the environment and provide opportunities for community service.

SAFetY AnD Group rAtioSWe believe kids need a safe, positive environment to play, learn and grow. Our staff is chosen carefully for their enthusiasm, knowledge, responsibility and genuine concern for each camper. To insure your child’s safety, our staff are certified in CPR and First Aid. In order to provide maximum leadership and individual attention, 12-15 campers are assigned to each counselor in our 5-10 year-old programs. No more than ten campers are assigned to each counselor in our 3-4 year-old programs and no more than 20 campers are assigned to each counselor in our 11-14 year-old programs.

LiCenSinGTo ensure the highest possible quality, all Y summer camps follow similar policies and procedures recommendedbytheStateofKentucky and the YMCA of the USA.DesignatedsitesarelicensedbytheStateandareeligibleforvarious third party child care reimbursements provided by 4-C, Foster Care, United Way, etc.

Contracts must be provided at the time of registration to receive the discounted weekly fee.

SpeCiAL neeDSEveryone is welcome at Y summer camps. Children with special needs who can function successfully in a group of 15 campers with one staff person are welcome to participate in any of the YMCA

summer camp programs. Children who require additional supervision should register for a CEP site (see page 12). Children who cannot board a school bus without assistance should register for the CEPStuartsite(Seepage12).

reGiStrAtionWe want every kid to have the opportunity to make lasting memories this summer but space is limited so we encourage you to register early! Registration is available online, at every YMCA Family Branch and also by mailing in the enclosed registration form. For safety reasons, registrations may not be accepted on the first day of any camp for that session. Online registration begins on February 22. If you have any trouble registering online, call 582.3623 for assistance.

SwimminGSwimmingisoneofourfavoriteways to build self esteem and encourage campers to be active with their friends. To make sure our swimming activities are both fun and safe, all children visiting pools with deep water will be

swim-tested.Staffwilldetermineeach child’s skill level and the child will receive a color-coded necklace.red: child requires a float belt and may only swim in the shallow end of the pool;Yellow: child may swim in the shallow portion of the pool only, but does not require a float belt; Green: deep-end swimmer.

FieLD tripSField trips provide our campers with the opportunity to get out in the community, explore their interests and learn new things. Field trips are taken between the hours of 9:30am-3:30pm unless otherwise noted. Transportation is provided by school bus.

FinAnCiAL ASSiStAnCeAt the Y, strengthening the community is our cause. We believe all children, regardless of age, income or background should have the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. Financial assistance makes summer day camp available to those in need. Visit our website or call 587.9622 for an application.
