Battle of Fort Fisher

Battle of Fort Sumter—1861ζ At Charleston Harbor in South Carolina.

ζ South Carolina was a seceded state, part of the Confederate Union.

ζ And demanded that Union Troops withdraw from Charleston's harbor.

Battle of Fort Sumter—1861ζ This is the first battle, that started the war on April 12th.

ζ Brigadier General Beauregard ordered( Confederate) an attack, the battle lasted two days.

ζ Major Anderson (Union) surrendered on the 14th .

This battle had NO casualties

ζ President Lincoln saw this is as rebellion, and called for more volunteer troops.

Battle of Bull Run—July 21, 1861

Union Troops—ζ Were under the command of Brigadier General Irvin McDowell.

ζ They “hoped” to capture Richmond V.A the Confederates Capital. ]

ζ Union Troops surrendered north to Washington D.C

Confederate Troops—ζ Brigadier General Beauregard commanded the Confederate Troops.

ζ The Confederates held their ground, allowing reinforcements to come under Colonel Stonewall Jackson’s command.

•Both Union and Confederate sides realized the impacts of the war.

Battle of Gettysburg—July 1-3 1863ζ In Gettysburg Pennsylvania

Union Troops—Union General Meade led his troops to fend off Confederate Troops invading the north.Confederate Troops— Confederate General Robert E. Lee was moving north. Destroying any Union Troops in his way towards Philadelphia.

It was a Three day battle.

Three Days of Battle—

Union Troops* 93, 921 menConfederate Troops* 71, 699 men

On the first day, Confederate troops had sent Union Troops fleeing.

On the second day, with heavy attacks from the Confederates, Union Troops held their line.

On the third day, 12, 500 Confederate Troops charged the Union Troops with the “Picketts Charge”

Second battle of Fort Fisher—Jan.13-15.1865

At 2:30pm the naval assault stopped and the land attack began.

General Whiting of the Confederate’s was killed during this attack, and the combat was fierce.

Around ten pm the surrender order was given to the confederates.

General Terry moved his troops in between Hoke’s troops and Fort Fisher and moved towards the Fort.

Hoke did not engage or do anything.

For two days, porter ships attacked the fort with lots of artillery.

Second battle of Fort Fisher—Jan.13-15.1865

Battle of Appomattox—The End of the War!!!General Lee surrendered at 11:50pm

April 7th Grant sent General Lee a letter requesting his troops surrender. April 8th the Union burned much needed supplies for the confederate Troops.

April 9th General Lee attacked some minor Union Troops.Grant, however brought the rest of his troops in.

The Terms*Major artillery would be over turned

Confederates got to keep their own horses and side arms

NO imprisonment
