THE JOHN HENRY BROOKES BUILDING
At Oxford Brookes University we’re clear in our ambition. Our commitment is to lead the intellectual, social andeconomic development of the communities we servethrough teaching, research and creativity that achieve the highest standards.
We already believe that our contribution to the region andthe wider UK economy amounts to more than £1 million aday. But the University’s ability to sustain this depends onour ongoing success, and on the quality of the facilitieswe offer staff, students and the wider community.
For those involved, higher education has always been aninvestment and will be more so in the future. To succeed, the University must make its own investment, so thatBrookes can continue to attract and keep the mostcommitted and dedicated staff and students.
Our new John Henry Brookes Building is crucial to increasing the impact we make and reinforcing thereputation we have already achieved.

OXFORD BROOKES UNIVERSITY
A MODERN BUILDING FOR A MODERN UNIVERSITY
In January 2011, work began on the John Henry Brookesbuilding at the heart of our Headington campus. Bringingtogether library and teaching space with social areas, theStudents' Union and essential support services, the newbuilding will transform the lives of our students.
They will graduate into a fiercely competitive world ofwork, where cutting-edge skills and adaptability will bevital to their success. To give them the best possibleopportunities, we need our facilities to match the highquality of our teaching and support.
At Oxford Brookes, we want our Universityto be a place of inspiration, a place towork together and experience new waysof learning. Lectures, seminars and essaysremain vital elements of study. But today’sstudents have to take responsibility fortheir own learning.
The open-plan Forum, located at the coreof the building, will be the hub of thecampus. It offers easy access to thesupport students need while providing anextension to the classroom and acomfortable place to take a break.
Like the whole building, the Forumsupports a more connected way ofworking, providing the facilities forstudents to better explore their subjectand relate their learning to the real world. It enables our students to work anywhereand be supported everywhere.

SUPPORT FOR ALL LEARNING STYLES
The Library is central to students’ learning and researchwork. The demands of a modern degree require them to use printed and online resources, employ newtechnologies and to work both individually and withingroups.
It will provide a vastly improved study space to supportthis and increased assisted learning space to ensurenobody misses out. It will allow us to develop the newand improved services our current and future studentsexpect.
The focus is flexibility and choice, with a great variety ofspaces to support quiet research or dissertation work aswell as areas for social learning or group projects.
