Snowflakes Falling
Snowflakes falling soft and light,
Snowflakes falling in the night,
Soft and light, pure and white.
When the sun shines out so bright
All the earth is dressed in white.
JOURNEY THROUGH THE SCHOOL
To friends and families,
We are excited to finally be able to share an online journey through our school, starting with Early Childhood and Primary.
There are many differences between Steiner education and traditional Australian education, the main one being the emphasis on beauty, truth and goodness.
Over the years, I have realised that everything in Steiner education is carefully considered; the subjects taught, the handshake at the door, the verse from the Light of the Child, the reverence accompanying the verse and teaching from the whole to the parts, all add richness and reverence to the life of the student.

'In My Blood It Runs' Documentary Screening for Class 6 to Year 11 this Wednesday (PG)
As part of Reconciliation Week, the documentary ‘In My Blood It Runs’ will be screened this Wednesday, 12pm-1.30pm for Class 6 - Year 11
students.
The film follows the story of Dujuan (a 10 year old Aboriginal boy), as he struggles with his own history and a western education in school (which
he is ‘failing’), and the growing interest of the child welfare service and the police. Dujuan shares his spark, wisdom, intelligence and knowledge of
his history and the complex world around him with the audience throughout the film and, as he comes ever closer to incarceration, his family strive
to give him a strong Arrernte education, lest he becomes another statistic.
We are also offering an online virtual screening for parents and teachers this Thursday evening – June 4. If you are interested in joining this online
screening, please email Lou Pullar (Class 6 teacher [email protected]), so she may send you an invitation to the event. You will also be
invited to make a donation to support the creation of a First Nations School on Dujuan’s homeland run by, and for, Indigenous peoples.
French Poetry Competition: ONE WEEK TO GO!
Thursday June 11 is our special day. Students will be filmed during the school day.
Costumes and props are encouraged, as well as lots of gestures and vocal expression. We are looking amazing this year already! Please return
the permission forms if you haven’t already.

BEST BOOK DAY EVER - JUNE 17
On Wednesday June 17 Class 6 have organised a Book Day for the whole school.
"We encourage (and hope), that your child will come dressed up like a character from their favourite book.
We also hope that your child can bring the book that he or she is dressing up from - (if you do not have this book, that is ok), he or she can describe this book to their class instead.
The teachers shall also dress up (we trust!)
But the most important part, is to have fun! We look forward to seeing your child, or children, all dressed up on 17 June.
Thanks From Class 6
NOTE FROM THE OFFICE: Please avoid dressing up as movie characters, we would like to keep the themes to books only - although we are aware that movies can also come in the form of a book too. If unsure, please ask your child to chat to their teacher about the character they are planning to dress up as - Thank you
YEAR 9This week, the Year 9s went on an extended adventure (around the school), participating in the Mansfield Steiner School Amazing race. In groups of five, they had to race around the school grounds.
The race was split up into six legs, each leg requiring teams to decipher clues, navigate themselves and perform physical and mental challenges along the way, all while wearing their hiking packs.
The challenges included setting up camp for the night, including a tent, trangia and a fake campfire, listing all of the camp dinners we have had, moving firewood for winter and going on a mini-hike around the oval.
The Amazing race challenge worked on student’s communication and delegation skills. It was particularly impressive to see how they worked effectively and efficiently as a small team to
get all the task completed in the quickest time frame.
- Brooke Varacalli (Outdoor Ed, Year 9 Guardian)
YEAR 8Year 8 recently concluded their Main Lesson on the Chemistry of Food and Process, by conducting experiments on proteins and fats.
Students looked at how oil and water are immiscible, and then created an emulsion using both oil and water, in the form of Mayonnaise.
All the students really enjoyed the hands-on experiments using everyday food items, and found the whole Main Lesson very enjoyable.
They have now embarked on a historical journey through the Age of Revolutions, starting with a look at the American Revolution.
Students are being subjected to the tyranny that is King Seamus and his intolerable acts within the room, whilst drawing parallels between their experiences and those of the colonists in the America.
- Seamus Kavanagh (Year 8 Guardian)
YEAR 7This week, Year 7 have completed their main lesson on Arthurian Legends with a page in their books dedicated to a ‘Modern Code of Chivalry’.
We gathered inspiration from illuminated manuscripts of the Middle Ages and the students spent a considerable amount of time in silence adding immense detail and beauty to their own pages.
Students are now working concurrently on the play and a prepared speech in the theme of Arthurian legends, women, and equality.
- Josh Byrne (Year 7 Guardian)
ROSA MUNDI PREPOn Wednesday last week the Rosa Mundi class went on their afternoon walk with a purpose.
They collected red and yellow autumn leaves from their garden and toured through the big school stopping to admire the beautiful mandalas made by the primary and secondary classes to recognise Reconciliation Week.
The children stopped in one of their usual favourite places to play in the forest between the secondary classes behind the vegetable gardens. There they collected more colours, green, blue and olive gum leaves, brown bark and grey stones to create a mandala of their own.
In a brief conversation the children discussed the significance of standing and working in a circle, that everyone is included and is a part of the community. Our mandala became a representation of inclusiveness and working towards a common goal of harmony.
- Ariel Stava (Early Childhood Teacher)
