SPECIAL NOTES

Orientation Information TableStudent Union BallroomThroughout Orientation, we will have the Orientation Information Table available to answer your questions. While you will be escorted to all sessions, if you get lost or have any concerns, please let us help you.

WaterIt is hot and humid in Louisiana, and we will be doing a lot of walking the next few days. Please keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of water.

Orientation BagsEveryone’s bag looks exactly the same. Please make sure to mark your bag with your name, and please do not put anything valuable in your bag (money, IPods, etc.) If you misplace your bag, please contact a member of our staff.

Orientation Lost & FoundWe will have an Orientation Lost & Found at the Orientation Information Table. If you find a lost object, please drop it off. The Office of Orientation is not responsible for items you misplace during your stay.

7:00 AM – 5:00 PM Orientation Information Table Student Union, Ballroom Lobby

8:00 AM – 9:00 AM Parent Check-In Student Union, Ballroom

• Lunch Tickets: Lunch tickets can be purchased during check-in for $6.00. We have two locations for lunch available to you. Both locations will provide the same meal. We have 100 seats available for our Parent Luncheon hosted by the Alumni Association at the Alumni Center, or parents can opt to eat in our Café de Lafayette in the Student Union. Parent Luncheon tickets must be purchased during check-in.

8:00 AM – 9:00 AM Continental Breakfast Student Union, Outside Ballroom Please enjoy our Continental Breakfast as you prepare for your day.

8:00 AM – 9:00 AM Campus Resources Fair Student Union, 1st Floor Students & Parents are encouraged to visit representatives from many offices across

campus to learn about their services and meet their staff.

8:00 AM – 5:00 PM University Bookstore Student Union, 1st Floor We encourage all Orientation participants to visit our University Bookstore for all your official

Ragin’ Cajun gear and to check out their other merchandise. Use the coupon located in your Orientation bag for a great discount!

9:00 AM – 10:00 AM Orientation Welcome Student Union, Ballroom Welcome to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and Early Orientation! You will be welcomed by members of our Student Orientation Staff and campus administrators.

10:00 AM – 10:45 AM Life Outside the Classroom: University Resources and Student Affairs Student Union, Bayou Bijou This is an exciting time for your students and we are ready to assist in their transition. Join

the Dean of Students to learn about resources and services available to aid in your students’ success outside the classroom.

10:45 AM – 11:30 AM Understanding Academic Course Placement & Advising Student Union, Bayou Bijou This session will address important concerns parents have about the academic curriculum,

academic advising structure, and course registration process. We will provide you helpful insights on how to support your student and our university in meeting degree requirements.

11:30 AM – 12:00 PM Business Services: A Look at Tuition and Fees Student Union, Bayou Bijou Learn tuition and fee payment deadlines, methods of payment, dates when scholarship

and financial aid money is posted on the student account, payment plan options, and other services from Business Services and Student Cashiers Center.

12:00 PM – 1:00 PM Lunch UL Alumni Center or Student Union, Café de Lafayette (2nd Floor) We have 100 seats available for our Parent Luncheon hosted by the Alumni Association at

the UL Alumni Center. Cost is $6.00 with a ticket that was purchased at orientation check-in. Lunch is also available in the Café de Lafayette at the Student Union for $6.00 with meal ticket purchased at Parent Orientation check-in.

1:00 PM – 1:30 PM Helping Your Student Succeed Academically Student Union, Bayou Bijou

The Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs and a Counselor from the Academic Success Center will give you an overview of academic life at UL and expectations inside the classroom. They will introduce you to the different academic resources on campus.

1:40 PM – 2:45 PM Information Sessions 1:40 PM – 2:10 PM: Concurrent Session Round 1 2:15 PM – 2:45 PM: Concurrent Session Round 2 Parents can pick one session to attend during each of our two concurrent information

sessions. These sessions are designed to give you important information about UL Lafayette. Some sessions are combined sessions with students.

UL Lafayette Academic Scholarship recipients session Student Union, Ballroom The Director of Scholarships will host a session to discuss academic scholarships. All

students who will be receiving a scholarship are required to attend this session during one of the two rounds of information sessions.

Cajun Card Services Student Union, Cypress Room The Cajun Card is your student’s official school ID. Come learn about important details

regarding the Cajun Card, including information on Cajun Cash, meal plans, and other common questions parents have about the Cajun Card.

Safety and Security Student Union, Derrick Room (2nd Floor) University Police will present information regarding safety on campus. Details will be

discussed regarding the University Emergency Notification System and other safety programs that the University offers students.

Student Health & Wellness: Yes, They are Real Doctors Student Union, Acadian Room (2nd Floor) Many parents wonder about how their son or daughter can stay healthy on campus. This

session will discuss information about Student Health Services and will include details on how you can ensure your son or daughter is healthy during their time at UL Lafayette. Presented by a parent who is a UL nurse.

Honors Orientation Meeting for Parents Student Union Evangeline Room (2nd Floor) The Honors Program offers an array of resources and opportunities for students. This

session is designed specifically for parents to help you understand the unique opportunities, requirements, and special resources available to your honors student. This is a great time to meet some of the Honors Program students and staff as well.

3:00 PM – 5:00 PM Afternoon Information Sessions 3:00 PM – 3:55 PM: Concurrent Session #1 4:00 PM – 4:55 PM: Concurrent Session #2

Financial Aid & TOPS Information Session Wharton Hall 222 This session provides important information for all orientation participants receiving TOPS

or any form of federal financial aid, grants, or loans. You will receive TOPS and financial aid program requirements and learn how your money will get credited to your account for tuition & fees.

On-Campus Living Information Session Student Union, Ballroom Students & Parents interested in learning more about on-campus housing options are encouraged to attend this session to learn more about the Department of Housing and living on-campus.

5:00 PM – 6:00 PM Welcome to UL Lafayette Cookout & Housing Tours Quad between Baker & Huger Halls Sponsored by the Department of Housing & Student Life & Conduct, & Ambling

Development Group Please join the Office of Orientation, faculty members, members of the administration, and current students for a welcome reception and cookout. Students and Parents will also be able to take tours of our newest on-campus living facilities – Baker & Huger Hall.

6:00 PM – 8:00 PM Swampfest Concert Pride of Acadiana Practice Field, Baker Hall Sponsored by the Residence Hall Association Students and Parents are invited to join the Residence Hall Association for their annual Swampfest outdoor concert. This year features New Orleans original artist The Revivalists. You can also participate in human bowling and robo surf. This event will give you a taste of student life at UL Lafayette.
