FDMC and SHGC updates…

SHGC – Pictured above are the 2020 Head Girl Team with the Principal, Mrs Paula Wells. From left are: Cornelia Chan (Deputy Head Girl Special Character), Jorja Murray (Head Girl) and Caitlin O’Connell (Deputy Head Girl Student Council).

FDMC - On Tuesday the young men from FDMC Yr. 13, marked the end to their school year with a retreat at St Joseph’s. Pictured here is Xavier Kere-Rako (front right) anointing fellow student, Reece Skvor with holy oil & Jeremy Johnston in background.

Change to Mass TimetableDear Parishioners,

Thank you for your responses to the consultation questionnaire sent out about Sunday Mass times. The Leadership Team appreciates your involvement and the suggestions many people offered. The Sunday Mass schedule changes will affect everyone, and people will no doubt redistribute themselves according to their routine and needs.

Thank you to everyone for your patience and good humour as the schedule is implemented. The new Sunday Mass schedule will begin either after Christmas OR in February 2020, as we need to wait for the new foyer at OLHC to be completed. This foyer will be a tremendous addition to OLHC church building and allow more people to fit into the church. The new Sunday Mass schedule will be St Patrick’s Okato – alternating Masses with Pungarehu, St Joseph’s - Sunday 9am and 5:30pm, Our Lady Help of Christian’s vigil 5:30pm and Sunday 10:30am, Bell Block Catholic Centre – 10:30am Mass 1st Sunday of the month. This means there are 4 Masses in the Parish every Sunday and 6 Masses on a Sunday once a month. This is plenty. The reason for Mass schedule change is because of fewer priests and having 7 Masses across the parish on a Sunday is unnecessary.

This change is part of a much bigger plan. The Leadership Team is taking us on a journey of parish renewal and evangelization in response to Pope Francis.

An ecclesial renewal which cannot be deferred

27. I dream of a “missionary option”, that is, a missionary impulse capable of transforming everything, so that the Church’s customs, ways of doing things, times and schedules, language and structures can be suitably channeled for the evangelization of today’s world rather than for her self-preservation. The renewal of structures demanded by pastoral conversion can only be understood in this light: as part of an effort to make them more mission-oriented, to make ordinary pastoral activity on every level more inclusive and open, to inspire in pastoral workers a constant desire to go forth and in this way to elicit a positive response from all those whom Jesus summons to friendship with himself. (Pope Francis, Joy of the Gospel, 2013).
