Being an Aviva Group Critical Illness customer isn’t just about us being there for your employees should they make a claim. Whether it’s access to one of the five services from Aviva DigiCare+ Workplace, or practical and emotional support from RedArc, our added value services can support employees when the going gets tough.

JULIAN NURSEHEAD OF GROUP PROTECTION PROPOSITIONS, AVIVA

Why Group Critical Illness mattersA critical illness can affect anyone: from the young to the old, from manual workers to managers across your workforce. Providing a Group Critical Illness benefit to your workforce helps to show that you care about your  employees and their welfare – the last thing they want when they are seriously ill is additional financial worries.

Group Critical Illness cover gives employees who make a successful claim a lump sum to spend on what they need; paying bills, making home alterations to help with their disablement, or their recovery. But our added value services mean there’s even more help available.

But caring for your employees is about more than looking after them when they get ill. It’s also about helping them stay healthy and picking up issues before them become problems. Your Group Critical Illness cover comes with added value services to help your employees stay on top of their health.

Why our added value services matterDuring challenging times, your employees might benefit from fast medical advice, a second medical opinion or practical and emotional assistance. Here’s where our added value services can make a big difference, giving your employees access to a range of facilities designed to offer extra professional help in trying circumstances.

These include:

• Aviva DigiCare+ Workplace• Health Check

• Digital GP

• Second Medical Opinion

• Mental Health Consultation

• Nutritional Consultation

• RedArc Personal Nurse Service

• Stress helpline

The main reason for taking out Group Critical Illness is financial protection. Employees should not take out cover for added value services alone.

Digital GPIt’s not always easy or convenient to get to the doctors’ surgery. With the Digital GP service, your employees and their immediate family can get medical advice when they need it.

Designed to complement existing NHS treatment, the Digital GP is a private doctor service offering access to clinical advice and guidance in non-emergency situations. It offers the peace of mind of being able to speak to a doctor quickly with a video appointment, which lasts up to 20 minutes (including wrap up time). Consultations are available seven days a week, 8am to 8pm, usually in around three hours.

Your employee can view the biography of a GP before booking, and if they want to, keep that doctor for a follow-up appointment. A consultation could lead to a prescription, a fit note or a recommendation or referral for specialist treatment. Employees could also use the service to speak to a UK doctor when they are on holiday abroad.

Each employee can have up to three appointments in each policy year, shared between them and their eligible family members.

Second Medical OpinionIf an employee is diagnosed with an illness, it can be a really tough time for them. Getting a Second Medical Opinion can help them understand and process the situation better. It may also lead to recommendations for a different treatment route.

With the Aviva DigiCare+ Workplace Second Medical Opinion service, your employees and their immediate family get access to a network of UK-based expert clinicians, covering all physical and mental health conditions.

The service matches the patient to an appropriate clinician, hand-picked based on their medical expertise and offers face-to-face, telephone, or in-app consultations.

Once the medical expert has all the information they need, they will review the medical evidence and produce a report detailing their diagnosis and recommended treatment plan. This can give your employee the information they need to make important decisions about their health with greater confidence.

The service offers two Second Medical Opinions in each policy year, shared between your employee and their eligible family members.

Mental Health ConsultationMental health is as important as physical health, and there is often a link between the two. Helping your employees manage their mental health is a vital part of keeping them healthy.

Getting help as early as possible can play a big part in tackling mental health issues. This service offers your employees the opportunity to get tailored advice from a mental health professional, on average within 48 hours.

This video or phone consultation service offers help with all types of issues, from workplace stress to money worries, family conflict to divorce, big life changes to dealing with family history and more. It also offers a bereavement service to help your employee and their family cope with grief.

In each policy year, up to six Mental Health Consultations are available, shared between the employee and their eligible family members. Up to an additional six bereavement sessions are available, these are also shared between the employee and their eligible family members.

Nutritional ConsultationYou need your people to stay healthy. Helping them to understand how what they put in their bodies can make a big difference to their health is at the root of that.

A video consultation with a qualified nutritionist can help people understand more about how important nutrition is for their health and wellbeing.

Making healthy nutritional choices helps with achieving good physical fitness, which in turn can affect mental health. That’s why it makes sense to help establish a healthy relationship with food.

This service offers up to six 30-minute consultations with a nutritionist in each policy year, shared between your employee and their eligible family members.

Who can use this service?

The Nutritional Consultation service is available to employees insured under Group Critical Illness, their spouse or partner and children from age 12 up to the age of 18, or 21 if in full time education.

SummaryEmployees and their families using RedArc will have everything they need in one place. They’ll have one point of contact – their Personal Nurse – who helps them get access to services from across the UK health system, giving them the benefit of their expertise and much needed emotional support at such a difficult time.

How it works

Initial contact with RedArc Everyone deals with a critical illness diagnosis differently. So when your employee feels ready to talk they can call RedArc on:

01244 625180 quoting ‘AVIVA GCI’. Lines are open Monday to Friday, 9am - 5pm. Standard call charges apply.

Personal Nurse assigned to your employeeYour employee will be assigned to a dedicated Personal Nurse, an experienced, registered nurse with first hand experience in looking after people with critical illnesses who will provide long-term one-on-one telephone support for as long as it’s needed.

Ongoing employee assistanceThe Personal Nurse will talk to the employee to understand their diagnosis, whilst having the time to listen to any worries and address their concerns. They will provide guidance so your employee can make the most of what’s available, aiming to remove any insecurity they may have about what’s happening.

Specific services, including UK-based second opinionIf appropriate, your employee’s Personal Nurse can also arrange for a wide range of services to provide the employee with further help. For example, they can arrange a series of calls from a specialist nurse, a course of assessed external therapy such as counselling, CBT, complimentary therapy, or practical help at home, therefore providing a service that is tailored to individual needs and circumstances.

RedArc can also arrange a comprehensive, independent assessment of your employee’s medical condition. The second medical opinion will be sourced by RedArc and provided face to face with a UK-based Consultant Specialist.
