The Teddy Bear Reading Booster Program We are seeking assistance to establish a new reading program!!! (Please Help Us) Description: This New 10 week program is aimed at accelerating the reading skills of Year 1 students who just need a boost to get them going. The school provides all training and materials to support this wonderful program. This project involves:
a parent training session parents committing to a minimum of two half hour sessions per week per
student If you are interested in becoming a Teddy Bear tutor please contact Miss Morrison on [email protected] by Friday 17 May. The BEAR (Being Excited About Reading) program will also run later in the year for our more able readers who could still do with a bit of extra help. Keep an eye out in future newsletters so you can volunteer for this program too!
2019 Woolworths Earn & Learn We are excited to be taking part in the 2019 Woolworths Earn & Learn program. During the previous campaign, we were able to purchase some great resources with the points we earned, thanks to you. Collect your stickers at Woolworths and for every $10 you spend (excluding the purchase of tobacco, liquor and gift cards), you will receive a sticker. Your children can then place them on the special sticker sheet. Once completed, bring it to school or you drop them into the Kogarah Woolworths collection box. There is a sticker sheet included in this week's newsletter, some spare sheets are available at
your local Woolworths, or you can download them here. The more points we earn, the more we can redeem from a choice of over 10,000 educational resources including mathematics and English resources, art & crafts materials and much, much more! We are grateful for your support and look forward to a successful program. If you have any questions, please ask at the School.
So Much Building Going on at CPS! We have people in the school replacing the roof, new Air Conditioners, Painting and laying carpet but that doesn’t stop us from doing our everyday activities! Check out the band! The rehearsed out in the sunshine on Thursday! Thank goodness for extension leads and tolerant neighbours!

Greek Languages News
It has been a very busy and full term and a half in the Greek languages classroom and we
have been looking forward to sharing it in the newsletter.
Ms Hassapis was honoured with being asked to present again, this time at the Community
Languages Induction Program (CLIP). She talked about the 4Cs, quality teaching and
programming and how she implements all this in her teaching. As a result, our classroom has
had teachers from different schools such as Hurstville P.S, Punchbowl P.S and Cringilla
P.S coming to visit and observe. We hope they left our school with many new ideas.
Ms Hassapis was also successful in an application to be part of the Early Languages Learning
Australia (ELLA) trial to be done with Kindergarten and attended a workshop to learn as
much as she can on ELLA and how best to implement it.
Although the Kindergarten students began Greek lessons a little after languages had started,
they have had a great time learning to say numbers, colours and greetings in
Greek through songs, actions and art, as well have had a lot of fun consolidating this new
knowledge with the ELLA apps on the mini iPads.
Year 1, Year 2, Year 3, Year 4 and Year 6 have been very busy learning about themselves
and family. They have done lots of work through art, activities, songs and games. They are
now also learning about different times of the day and greetings that go with them.

On the 18th and 25th of May, about a quarter of our school’s Chinese students participated in the 2019
National Chinese Eisteddfod at Birrong Boys High School. This is an annual event where contestants are
required to recite poems. With their family being there to support them, our students tried their best and
achieved very good results. In the group competitions, our 7-9 Year-Old Team received the first prize and
our 10-12 Year-Old Team received a special award. Well done! 23 students participated in the individual
