We have worked in and for “light”since 1958. This was the year when theHarvey Creazioni, a small companythat produced lamps for the home, was founded. Today we are the leadingItalian manufacturer in the “Lighting”market, and we rank among the topEuropean manufacturers.
We aren’t satisfied by simply makinggood lights. We want be the creatorsof good lighting: light that shines in aroom, a house, a building, a museum,a cathedral, a company, a plaza, anairport, and, yes... even an entire city.Good lighting has to be created withthe awareness that it has to integratewith its environment, taking care notto invade it, darken it, or violate it.Light must be respected, and light has to, in turn, respect the nature of people and things.
The iGuzzini mission is therefore tostudy light, to know light and to makeit known; improving the integrationwith architecture through industrialdesign. Because of this, a large part ofwhat we do is to offer consultation onlighting techniques, both in the designphase and as an after-sales service.Famous architects and designers haveconsulted us since the very beginningiGuzzini's operations.
Sociologists have discovered that the buying habits have identified oursociety as a “consumption society”.Through purchasing, we do muchmore than just buying or selling; thepurchase becomes an experience that enriches our knowledge, guidesour curiosity, moves us to want tosocialize, and affirms our identitiesand our personalities. Our buyinghabits tell us who we are. And whatwe are buying is varied and abundant,as are the spaces that are dedicated to selling merchandise. Next to thetraditional mom & pop stores we nowhave multi-stores and shopping malls, which are in fact covered markets ofyore that have been introduced to thenew millennium. And we even haveconcept stores, which sell hopes anddreams and identities more than justphysical merchandise. In this veritablelabyrinth of hopes and dreams andsteals and deals, organization is key.It guides the buying experience, avoiding dispersion, so that theconsumer is satisfied. Light is adetermining factor in well-designedmerchandising and displays. It tells us what we should be gazing at, itshows us the direction we shouldwalk, it creates relaxing areas, and ithelps us pick out what we are lookingfor. At the same time, each object, each type of retail space, and everysingle portion of these areas requireadequate and special lighting; lighting that is designed to bring out the qualities and features of themerchandise on display. The answer to this need is lighting design. Withexperience and skill, passion andcompetence, lighting designers live, breathe, and dream light.

Design
Creativity and innovation
Design is one of iGuzzini’s mainthemes. We have always keptdesign in mind whilst keeping upwith research and innovation.Design is an investment that notonly is reflected in the quality of the products we make, but it alsohas garnered us prestigiousachievements. The ADI (ItalianIndustrial Design Association) hasawarded us the Golden Compassthree times, which is the highesthonour in our industry.
The 1991 Golden Compass inparticular was quite special for usbecause it applauded our efforts in meshing together technologicalinnovation and the search for aformal aesthetic, making ourcompany recognizable in today’sindustry “for having developed, through time, a highly consistentdesign and production philosophy,in which the culture of Design hasbeen a common denominator andmark of distinction”.
Coordinated Systems
Experience with product technologyhas given us the possibility ofcreating coordinated and completesystems, able to satisfy allinstallation needs. Often, in fact, the success of a single fitting leadsto an entire product family which is so complete that it is able toaccomplish varied lighting andfunctional requirements whileremaining within the realm of thesame system. This allows us toensure, and even improve, balancein a lighting design project.

A multitude of optics, extractable and orientable compartments
The wide range of products that areavailable for lighting design gives usgreat versatility, meeting every lightdirection need with the security of those who have experience withquality as well as quantity. Each single product, also, thanks to the possibility of using a vastchoice of lamps, different optics, and a multitude of accessories, has added value in terms ofperformance.
The clean lines and discretion that iGuzzini is renowned for alsoguarantee that our fittings cancomply with each and everycontext, from classical tocontemporary, without fear ofcontrasting with or violating thenature of the space.

Visual comfort
Fittings with visual comfort are able to remedy the unpleasantphenomenon we commonly call glare. Glare is actually one of the major indicators of anunsuccessful lighting designbecause it negatively impacts the look and feel of the space. This is especially true in retail.Glare is avoided by using in direct lighting systems or fittings that have louvres.
Easy maintenance
The use of complex technology in innovative fittings does notnecessarily mean that maintenanceprocedures need to be complex aswell. We can safely say that a lightfixture works well in a space if it iseasy to manage. Fittings used inretail spaces need to be as easy touse and maintain as they are safe.
Because of this, in many cases, wehave made it possible to install ourfittings easily or even without tools, without having to find specific toolsthat could be difficult to utilize.Keeping these special needs in mindwhen producing a fitting is not onlysynonymous with attention to detailbut also with a desire to lengthenthe life of our products.

Efficiency of reflectors
The freedom to design spaces andcreate, through light, a particularambiance, depends directly uponthe efficiency and the variety ofreflectors and optics. They alsodetermine costs of managing thesystem, which are usually notconsidered when evaluatingprojects as a whole. The quality of our optics, made of ultrapurealuminium, allows us to obtainhigh-end lighting performance and many different lighting effects.
5
Up/Down Light optic
Technological evolution of theproduction process and qualitycontrols mean we are ever morecareful of avoiding wasted energyand light dispersion. This way, fittings with technologicallyadvanced reflectors can meet the needs of designers as well as managers and end users.

Biodynamic light
In 1988, after years of research iniGuzzini labs and in collaborationwith qualified international researchinstitutes, Sivra was born. Sivra is a general lighting system that canbe programmed according tobiological cycles. It reproduces the sunlight spectrum and hencenatural daylight characteristics. There are many advantages. This type of lighting lets humanbeings, who live or work in spacesthat do not have natural light, find their state of physiologicalefficiency and psychophysicalwellbeing.

Sivra Project Lighting Project
Natural light, with its rhythmic dailycycle, can be considered a naturaltime clock, producing quantifiablepsychological and biological effectson humans which vary accordingto luminance levels and colourtemperature. Light also influencesimportant physiological factorssuch as hormone production, mental alertness and mood.
Biodynamic light changes intensityand colour as the hours pass. It can obtain elevated lightinglevels. A series of components is available to configure a widearray of installations.

For biodynamic lighting systems, users can pre-set specific lightingprograms for each space where the fittings are installed. Theprogramme or programmes are customized via the LightingProject, a questionnaire the clientfills out so that iGuzzini can create a tailored lighting programme that will be memorized on a smartcard. This way users can plan ascientifically correct lighting cyclethat can be: annual, monthly, weekly, daily, hourly, in relation tousage, in relation to the space andhow it’s used, in relation to theclimactic conditions of the location, and many other possible variables.
By inserting the smart cart into thecontrol panel, the system, based onthe date and time that is set, willstart the preset programme until thenext manual command or until theuser inserts another smart card.

Shop windowWhat stands out here is not only the display of merchandise, but the veritable identity of the shop and itsmerchandising strategy. Therefore, light accompanies the brand image as it communicates, transcending itspurely technical function and becoming a vehicle that brings out thoughts and feelings.
A shopper who is looking for anobject or an item of clothing isactually on subconscious andintuitive pathway. The areas in ashop represent the stops along the way: the shop window, thefirst and most important entrywayinto the experience, is a true ticketto the shop’s presentation, portraying the image and the impactthat the experience should giveconsumers in the blink of an eye...seductive and inviting. The display racks are containers for the merchandise; specificlocations where our gazes shouldgo, areas where the brand ispersonified, main vehicles of thecompany’s marketing philosophy, true icons of the brand’s spirit. The counter, where the buying andselling relationship happens is theconnection point, a welcoming spot for shoppers.

AislesLighting has to signal direction andpathways. It has to be specially designed to make grocery shoppingpleasant, quick, and efficient. Lightingalso has to give a clear and completepanorama of all the displays.
At home, we care aboutcleanliness, food preparation, interior décor, and table settings. As we try to manage ourhouseholds in the best waypossible, we need special tools that help us out with our varieddaily chores. Much in the sameway, lighting designers need toolsto manage efficiency, versatility, practicality, maintenance, andcomfort, but above all they have to enhance the special features of merchandise that is actually quite varied, in shape and in colour.

Fruits and VegetablesThe uniqueness of this merchandise is its colour. Sometimes the colouredmerchandise is set against othercontrasting colours. Therefore, it is very important that there be uniformlighting that guarantees a comprehensiveviewing of the space and a colourtemperature (°K) that can adapt to the merchandise on display.
DelicatessenLight absolves the difficult task ofmaking merchandise look scrumptious.Via the use of special chromatic filters, specially designed for each type of food, freshness and fragrance become the keydisplay features. Because just as in anykitchen, presentation is just as importantas taste.
Non foodThe most important issue when lightingnon-food items is how to emphasizeshapes, colours, and materials bychoosing just the right light fixtures.
Check in/Check outLight contributes to making these areaspleasant, to call attention to a smallnumber of featured products, and to make sales clerk’s job easier.

The new modern-day concept ofSupermarkets is a creation of asales floor that is able to bestow a sense of carefree relaxation. In the refreshment area of thissupermarket, Le Perroquet fittingshave the dual direct and in directlighting so that they can perfectlyrespond to the varied lighting needsof the space, generating pleasant andnatural light that is complementary to the light seeping in from theskylights.
In the aisles, pendants like Berlinocan be adapted to the industrialnature of the display area. The modularTrimmer recessed fittings give off an extremely eclectic light emission:functional yet discrete, the Trimmerspots have the advantage of havingextractable and orientable opticalassemblies.
Automotive displays
FaçadeJust like large pieces of jewellery, automobiles gleam when they are ondisplay. The façades of showroomstherefore become a luxury showcasejust like a large-scale boutique, whereproducts seductively displayed anddetails and emphasized.
Cars have always been objects wedesire. Because of the importanceof the purchase of this nature, automotive displays and showroomshave a very strong emotional impact.Car Showrooms have the uniqueability to transcend from the purelycommercial buying and sellingrelationship with consumers andactually take on the semblance of a museum dedicated to design. To do this, the automobiles ondisplay need to be opportunely lit, with light shining down ontoshapes and colours and onto partsthat reflect light, so that the carsbecome brilliant. The artificial lightalso needs to interact with sunlightthat streams in from the outsidebecause most of these spaceshave wide window expanses.
Functional departmentsFunctional spaces need to have visualcomfort, because these are locationswhere the biggest portion of commercialactivities takes place.
Lighting effectsThere are areas in car showrooms wherelight needs to accomplish true lightscenery in order to enhance particularspecial features.
45
Spaces
Objects and accessoriesAs the size of the merchandise changes, lighting also needs to adapt so that it can still focus onto objects that aresmaller in size.
General lightingThe right amount of diffused lightingguarantees a lighting base, andeliminates reflection from theautomobiles, creating a pleasant and welcoming space.
Accent lightingSingle light fittings can create lightingeffects with light beams that aredirected onto the more exclusivemodels.
