Evaluation 5How did you attract/address your

audience?

Page 2: Evaluation 5 updated

To decide how to attract our target audience for Mrs Williams we decided to look at similar romance thrillers similar to ours and see ways in which they attracted their audience.

We looked at the film ‘The Perfect Guy’ and ‘Fifty shades of Grey’ because they have elements of obsession and love in the film, this film used trailers to promote to their audiences.

As the similar films to ours used trailers to promote their films we then decided to make our own trailer for our thriller ‘Mrs Williams’ we also used YouTube to host the trailer like the other films did.

The codes and conventions of a thriller which were used in our film is anticipation and curiosity, this met the audience expectations because these are key features in other thrillers which were successful. Our first choice of music was from Splice.  It is very slow and calming, but also very eerie at the same time. However, there is no climax in the music to suggest danger or intensity. When Mrs Williams is walking down the path to the cabin, the tempo of the music should speed up to create tension as this would be more effective. Music is a very important feature of a thriller so we need to get it right.

A unique selling point of our imaginary film is the red cape as it creates a branding of the cape as when someone thinks about a red cape they would think of ‘Mrs Williams’. Another unique selling point of our thriller is that a woman being the villain instead of being the victim, which stereotypically happens in other films. This would appeal to our audience because it is different to other films and the red cape is quite scary and our older age target audience want more horror and creepiness.

The red cape indicates danger and blood. It also stands out against the black and white background which is very affective.

The white text stands out again the black colours in the background.

The trees give a eery feel and make the film creepy.

The words ‘coming soon’ are smaller because we didn’t want it to take too much space

We also include a red cape on the teaser poster because we use a red cape as a costume in our thriller.

We decides to change the background to make it look more professional and for older age groups

The white writing stands out against the black background

The bright yellow light stands out and attracts people to look at the poster

‘Mrs Williams’ is the largest text as it is the name of our thriller and we want it to stand out mostWe kept the theme

of the trees as it eerie and makes the film creepy.

The main online activities which we used were Instagram and Twitter, we also used YouTube to host some of our videos. For Twitter we usually uploaded updates of our progress and also some humorous posts to keep our followers entertained. We tweeted quite regularly and used the hashtag ‘JEGPRODUCTIONS’ on most of our posts so we could be found more easily. We also uploaded short videos of our audience feedback of our thriller. Our Instagram page wasn’t used as much but we did post numerous times, we posted make up ideas and videos of things we had edited for the blog as an update for our followers.

Our trailer is roughly 20 seconds long, it has lots of motivated cuts which creates tension and suspense. It gives a brief overview of what the thriller will be about, but does not give too much away, it is also left on a cliff hanger and makes you want to watch our film.

The trailer conveys our codes and conventions of a thriller of anticipation and curiosity. This is presented with the music which creates anticipation and the short motivated cuts create curiosity of what is going to happen next.

Our trailer attracted our target audience because it was short and snappy which kept young teenagers 15+ attention. It also attracted our audience because it briefly showed them what our film was about.
