In what ways does your media

product use, develop or

challenge forms and

conventions of real media

product?

Page 3: Evaluation part 1

The first frame is of the title. The title is shown in a black

background and the title is red. The font I used reinforces

what type of genre the film is. The font is very spooky and

it has blood dripping down. This foreshadows that during

the film that there will be death and violence. Also the best

red colour on the font sets the tone of the film it gives it a

dark intense atmosphere.

The second frame is of the setting/location. We went to king

George hospital and filmed the abandoned part of the

hospital. The location fit our genre perfectly as the story is

based at a hospital. This is similar to the film “Shutter

Island” because it to is based at mental hospital. Also the

“The Shinning” has similar features about the location as

they are both empty dark location. The hospital which we

filmed at looks isolated and it sets the tone of the film

giving it a dark feel to it.

The third frame is of costume and props. In this frame we

used paint as blood on the main villain of the film to show

that they have been hurt. As the film is a psychological

thriller we don’t show how the villain is hurt as it creates

enigmas. Questions start to be raised such as how did he

escape? How did he get injured? This links to the genre of

our film because it starts to play with the audiences mind.

The fourth frame is of camerawork and editing. In this

frame we used jump cuts to make the villain jump from one

place to another. This helps to portray a psychological

thriller. This is similar to the film “The silence of the lamb”.

This is also a very popular psychological thriller film which

also creates enigmas similar to ours.

The next frame is of the title font and style. The title I made

on Photoshop. The font looks dark and spooky. This relates

to the genre of the film and it lets the audience know that

the film will be a psychological thriller.

The next frame shows the story and how the opening sets it

up. We have a close up shot of the scientist speaking to the

camera that she has been working on a cure in order to save

the mental patients at the hospital. Also we have another

close up shot of the beaker which show that the scientist has

been working. These shots all relate the genre of the film.

The audience start to wonder and question why her camera

broken and so on is. These all relates to the psychological

thriller genre because the audience all start to ask questions

and wonder what will happen.

Page 9: Evaluation part 1

The seventh frame is of genre and how the opening suggests

it. The frame is a close up of a danger sign on the other side

of the fence and we moved the camera a bit. This shows that

someone is looking through the fence and we don’t know

who it is. The danger sign foreshadows that something bad

will happen to the characters in the film. This fits the genre

because it plays with the audiences mind.

In the eight frames it shows how characters are introduced.

We introduced the main character “The Scientist” using a

close up of her talking into the camera. In this clip she

introduces herself and what she doing. This helps the

audience to know what the main character does with this 15

second clip.
