LESSONS LEARNED/

RECOMMENDATIONS

Operations

• Start planning for the next summer as soon as Summer BreakSpot ends.

• Develop ongoing program QI and feedback from parents/students/staff.

• Get an accurate count the day before for the next day’s meals. Do not

fudge numbers.

• Hire dedicated staff person to monitor all paperwork; this makes one

person accountable for an accurate count.

• Complete paperwork accurately every day.

• Involve funders/media throughout the summer; not just for special

events.

• Send weekly email update, with pictures, to partners, funders, potential

funders and community organizations.

• Meet at week zero, prior to meal distribution.

• Activities person and site monitor establish

communication process and relationship.

• Identify timing of meals with the activities.

• Secure photo release forms from parents before program begins.

• Survey community about needs/interests.

• Develop weekly guide for activities and games that is published and posted at sites.
