Tecuichpotzin “Isabel” Moctezuma Tecuichpotzin was the first born child

of the Aztec emperor Moctezuma II and his wife Teotlalco.

Her name is believed to mean “little royal maiden.”

She was born in either 1509 or 1510. By the year 1520 Moctezuma II and

his family were trapped in their capital of Tenochitlan and before his mysterious death he asked HernanCortes to assume custody of his first born daughter as well as some other of his children.

Hernan tried to escape with Moctezumas children but Tecuichpotzin and her sisters were caught by the natives.

Tecuichpotzin to Isabel Tecuichpotzin was first married to her

Uncle, Cuitlahuac, the brother of her father Moctezuma II. Cuitlahuac had taken the role of Emperor after his brothers death. He died about sixty days after their marriage from smallpox.

She was then married to her cousin Cuahtemoc, the last Aztec emperor. They remained together until their capital fell on August 13, 1521 by the Spanish and she was taken into custody once again by Hernan Cortes.

She is given the Spanish name of Isabel and becomes the most prominent Indian women in Mexico.

Cortes hangs her husband Cuahtemoc in 1526.

Hernan Cortez grants Isabel vast amounts of land and homes as well as yearly grants that he says are owed to her as the true heir of the Aztec Empire. He claims that Moctezuma was a supporter of Spain and the Catholic faith and he uses Isabel as an example to other natives of how they should “submit” to Spanish rule.

Isabel is then married to the Spaniard Alonso de Grado who died less than 2 yrs later.

Hernan then moved Isabel into his home where she became pregnant with his child.

Isabel was then married to a Spaniard by then name of Pedro Gallego de Andrade. He died in 1530.

In 1532 isabel marries Juan Cano de Saavedra.

Isabel died in 1550, in total she had 7 children.
