SELL MORE WINDOWS, SELL YOUR BUSINESS, PAY LESS TAX

Only the FIT for business seminar programme features these key issues and many more…

The FIT for Business seminar programme

has been announced and once again

sessions have been included that strike

right at the heart of the key issues facing Britain’s

window and door fabricators, installers, specifiers

and other professionals.

For glass and glazing business owners such

issues as ‘Exit Planning’ are covered, a subject

facing hundreds of business owners looking to

sell or hand on their businesses; and of course,

another session looks at the resultant issues

regarding taxation.

Broader topics relating to legislation are also

covered by The FIT for Business seminars which

look closely at important factors in the planning

and specification fields, with presentations

covering Glazing in Conservation Areas for

example; and BIM – Building Information

Modelling – a key subject for any companies

involved in public works. And an issue that simply

cannot be ignored are MTCs…every installer

should understand how MTCs are affected by the

Building Regulations.

A FIT Show regular is sales guru Paul Clifton, who

breaks from his UK tour with his Window Installer

Sales Lab to tell delegates ‘How to transform

your business from Average to Fortune’. Sales

Superstar Paul’s previous presentations have

filled the theatre and demand is bound to be

high for his next daily show. Another highlight

is the UK debut of SageGlass, the amazing glass

that tints on demand. A live demonstration will

be possible following a full installation of the

product in the exhibition hall itself.

Divided into four groups of presentations:

Industry; Public Sector & industry; Business; and

Specification & Design the 2016 FIT for Business

Seminars are up-to-the-minute and topical,

presenting 22 sessions over three days on key

subjects delivered by the foremost experts in

their fields. Many presentations are followed by

Advice Clinics in which one-to-one sessions with

the presenters will be possible, on a first-come,

first served basis.

Attendance to all sessions is free of charge to FIT

Show visitors. The full programme can be seen at

www.fitshow.co.uk/seminars where visitors may

also register online to receive regular updates

about The FIT Show and for when they visit,

smooth their way into the halls and seminars.

The Fabricator Installer Trade (FIT) Show takes

place at The International Centre Telford on 12th,

13th 14th April 2016. Visitors can reserve their free

tickets now by visiting: http://www.fitshow.co.uk/

TROJAN GROUP’S HARDWARE IS AHEAD OF THE GAME

Document Q, the latest addition to building regulations that covers security, came into force on 1 October 2015 and left many

hardware products non-compliant. But Trojan’s core product range already met the requirements, meaning that for Trojan fabricators and installers it was business as usual.

Tony Chadwick, Trojan’s Group Managing Director, said, “We at Trojan pride ourselves on developing value added hardware. The fact that so many of our core products already meet the requirements of Document Q shows just how valuable this approach is.”

Trojan’s window hardware products that meet the requirements of Document Q are the Stallion Reverse Espag, the Mustang Slim Line Reverse Espag, the Mustang Slim Line Shootbolt, the Pegasus Window Lock, the Stallion 2 Shootbolt and the Mega Egress Hinge (hinge protection may be required).

Trojan’s door hardware products that meet the requirements of Document Q are the Patriot Plus 3D High Security Door Hinge, the 3D High Security

Composite Door Hinge, the PAS 24 Stainless Steel Letter Plate and the TS007 2* Stainless Steel Door Handle.

Document Q states that all windows and doors installed in new dwellings (that means new builds and conversions) need to conform to PAS 24:2012. Full details of the requirements and how they affect fabricators and installers have been laid out in a leaflet that Trojan has prepared. The leaflet can be downloaded from the Trojan website: www.trojangroup.com.

Tony concludes, “New legislation always has the capacity to worry fabricators and installers. But our core products meet the requirements of the latest changes to the law and have done for some time, so Trojan customers don’t need to worry.”

Trojan’s value added approach means it is a market leading force in the industry. And the fact that the quality of Trojan’s core products mean they already meet the requirements of Document Q demonstrate why it is such a force to be reckoned with.

SPECIAL WINDOWS FOR A SPECIAL PLACE

GM Fundraising is renowned for its relationship with Hope House Children’s Hospice, and the glazing industry charity

was proud to step in and offer its assistance recently by calling on its supporters to do what they know best – fit windows!

“When Hope House mentioned in passing they were having some new windows installed, I couldn’t believe how much they had been quoted,” comments Gary Morton, Chairman of GM Fundraising. “Using our contacts at Central RPL, we arranged for the new windows to be fabricated and fitted, courtesy of Reliant Windows, at no cost to the hospice. This, once again, is testament to the overwhelming generosity of our industry”.

Simi Epstein, Director of Fundraising and Marketing at Hope House Children’s Hospices

adds: “We were stunned and delighted when GM Fundraising offered to contact companies in the glazing industry to provide the windows we needed free of charge. We had been quoted £7,000 to replace the old windows, which for Hope House is a lot of money which, had we been given the choice, we would rather have spent on the children. GM Fundraising has given us that choice and we can now use that money for what we do best – supporting and caring for children and their families. On behalf of all the children and families who will benefit, thank you so much.”

AZTEC WINDOWS ‘HAD TO OFFER’ ULTION AS STANDARD ON ALL DOORS

Coventry based Aztec Windows, fabricators of one of the largest ranges of PVC-U windows and doors in the West Midlands,

has standardised in Ultion, Brisant Secure’s high security flagship cylinder lock, for all doors.

Aztec Windows (Coventry) Ltd Director Michael Hagan explains: “We’re a fabricator that offers customers high quality products with unrivalled service, so we’re always looking to improve our product range. I started to talk to Brisant about Ultion after reading about it in the press and on social media. I tried using Ultion as an upgrade but it quickly became clear that I had to offer it as standard because real security shouldn’t be an option. From October 1st last year all our doors have come equipped with Ultion.”

Ultion has achieved Sold Secure Diamond (SSD) having passed real-life security tests that most other cylinders can’t. There is no time limit in SSD tests. Testers choose from a range of tools and try to break the cylinder in any way they know how. If the cylinder breaks, it fails. If it doesn’t, it passes. Testers stopped trying to break Ultion after 2½ hours of testing.

“It seemed silly to sell insecure doors when we have a solution to secure them,” adds Michael. “We’re talking to all our customers about Sold Secure Diamond and Ultion to make sure they know what they mean by real security. So far the reception has been great because our customers would rather pay more for a secure door.”

Brisant Secure CEO Steve Stewart comments: “Security is a problem in the window and door industry. But the fact that fabricators like Aztec Windows are taking positive steps to improve the security they sell is reassuring, and marks a real change in the way the industry is thinking.”

For more information on Aztec Windows visit www.aztec-windows.com or call 024 7662 1316.

Fabricators and installers looking to sell real life security should call Warren Yates on 01924 455 444.

FUTURE FIT SHOW DATES & VENUE ANNOUNCEDWINDOW, DOOR & CONSERVATORY TRADE EVENT MOVES TO NEC IN 2017

FIT Events Ltd, organisers of The Fabricator Installer Trade (FIT) Show, has announced the dates and venue of

events to take place after 2016.

From 2017 The FIT Show moves to the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) Birmingham, the UK’s premier exhibition venue, taking place in Halls 6 and 7. May 23rd, 24th and 25th have been chosen for 2017, with the following FIT Show to take place two years later at the same venue on 21st, 22nd and 23rd May 2019.

The decision to move to the NEC comes after extensive research to find another venue as the event had outgrown its original Telford

location. A spokesman for the organisers said: “A move was inevitable to handle the continuing demand for exhibition space and to allow the development of the event generally, including visitor numbers. For now however our focus and priority in every respect remains the April 2016 FIT Show which takes place at The International Centre Telford on 12th, 13th and 14th April.”

The Fabricator Installer Trade (FIT) Show takes place at The International Centre Telford on 12th, 13th 14th April 2016. General information on The FIT Show can be found at: www.fitshow.co.uk.

Further Strengthening of VBH Management Team

Hardware supplier VBH has strengthened its senior management team with three new directorships.

Simon Monks marks his 9th year at VBH with a promotion to the position of Sales Director and is now responsible for all sales in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. VBH customers in Scotland continue to be served by Allan Price and his ‘very able’ team in East Kilbride. Allan starts his 27th year with the company in 2016.

Following the retirement at Christmas of Fay Keddie, new appointment Vince Kay takes over the reins as Financial Director. Vince has a solid construction and civil engineering background and has spent the previous six months shadowing Fay and acclimatising to the demands of the window and door industry.

Finally, Mark Skudder, who has been responsible for all aspects of purchasing and warehousing since joining VBH in 2012, moves into the newly created position of Logistics Director. His

initiatives have been largely responsible for the company consistently exceeding its target of delivering 96% of catalogue items on time and in full. One of Mark’s first tasks as Logistics Director will be to oversee the implementation of the storage capacity expansion at VBH Gillingham over the first few months of 2016.

Managing Director Peter Rowlands commented ‘These are very exciting times for VBH (GB) and, of course, I would like to congratulate each of the new directors on their appointments.

‘Over a period of several years we have been reshaping VBH (GB) into a company which is capable of being ‘best in class’ and sustaining that position for the long term. The appointment of the new directors is only a part of the story of our reinvigoration of the whole organisation, but it marks a key milestone in that process and provides an excellent platform for the future development of VBH in the UK.’

MACO URGES FABRICATORS AND INSTALLERS TO BE ‘FLOOD AWARE’

Flooding can have a devastating effect on people’s lives with as many as one in six properties, representing 3.5 million dwellings

in the UK at risk of flooding from rivers or sea.

It is essential that people understand the risks that flooding poses to property and personal safety and that they are well informed against any future risk of flooding.

Flood schemes have protected an extra 177,000 properties in the last four years, another £2.3 billion being spent over the next six years to reduce the flood risk to 300,000 more properties.

This information is taken directly from the Environment Agency’s ‘Flood Aware’ campaign dated 4th November 2015.

At MACO our R&D department in Austria along with our Innovation team in the UK have been collating data and facts for some time on the UK’s flood risk and have used the evidence as a catalyst to develop a secure and completely weathertight solution for commercial and residential properties.

Taking elements from our existing Multi Matic tilt turn system and incorporating it with the CTS Combined door lock we have been able to produce a highly effective system offering additional perimeter locking around the threshold and hinge side of the door ensuring water egress is prevented.

Successfully tested to PAS1188-1:2014 Flood protection products and Building aperture products.

The really great benefit of the flood door solution from MACO is in its use of existing product lines meaning anyone who is already using MACO CTS combined door locks and Multi Matic tilt turn can

offer this solution from stock.

The patented i.S Security mushrooms used hold the perimeter firmly in place; however that does not mean that the door is now too stiff to activate. In fact completely the opposite making this also an ideal offering for the less abled and elderly with perhaps a weaker hand grip.

For further information about the flood door or any of the other products mentioned please email us directly [email protected] quoting ‘Flood Door’

IN 2014 THE FIT SHOW HOSTED 5,869 VISITORS GENERATING OVER 20,000 LEADS FOR THE INDUSTRY

Now we continue to be the primary focus for the UK window, door and conservatory industry. Forging a bridge between the manufacturers and distributors of products, components and services

with the companies and individuals that fabricate and install them.

ALL KAT’S PVC SLIDING PATIO DOORS HAVE ULTION SECURITY

KAT, the UK’s specialist glazing manufacturer,

is standardising on Ultion for all its PVC

sliding patio doors from January 2016.

Ultion is Brisant Secure’s high security cylinder

door lock. Ultion security is just one of the key

upgrades being introduced to KAT’s range for

2016. KAT customers will stay ahead of the rest

with high product specification as standard.

KAT’s Commercial Director Chris Powell explains:

“We’ve built the KAT brand on producing high spec

products, so I’m always hunting for quality additions

to our ranges. Ultion is a high quality product and

the practical security it offers is second to none. It

fits with KAT perfectly.”

Ultion achieved Sold Secure Diamond after

passing extensive tests carried out by expert

locksmiths. Videos comparing Ultion security

with the security from most lock cylinders in the

industry are at www.ultion-lock.co.uk.

“The videos are shocking,” says Chris. “They make it

easy for us to show our customers why we won’t sell

them anything else.”

Brisant CEO Steve Stewart says: “KAT’s commitment

to producing the highest quality products makes

Ultion a perfect fit. With Ultion, customers can be

sure their cylinder is providing homeowners with the

very best security.”

This year is set to be action packed for the team at GM Fundraising, as they release their 2016 Calendar of events.

“This year is really going to be our biggest yet” comments Gary Morton, chairman of GM Fundraising. “We are delighted to see the return of some of our newer events with the Football 5’s in May, alongside our signature events; the Golf Day in July and our Gala Dinner in October. The Golf day has an exciting new venue of Mottram Hall, and the Gala Dinner returns to The Holiday Inn in Stratford with a Halloween theme – fancy dress if you dare…”

“The biggest event we are undertaking sees us face our biggest challenge to date: the Border2Border cycling challenge, taking place in June. Our 18 strong riding team are now hard into their training to complete the 2,016 mile, 92,000 ft of climbing, journey from Vancouver in Canada to Tijuana, Mexico. Our support team is also hard

at work with planning and preparation to support the cyclists. Visit us on stand A22 at this years’ FIT Show to find out more about the ride and see if you can beat the cycling pros at a one minute sprint.”

“We are also launching the inaugural GMF Cup. A Ryder Cup style competition to be held at the prestigious home of golf, the Belfry, in September. The four day event is set to test even the most competent golfers amongst us.

“Of course none of these events would be possible without the overwhelming support of the industry, for which the GMF team and children from Hope House Children’s Hospices are continually grateful. We hope you will join us for one or more of our events this year. Download the 2016 calendar of events from our website: www.gmfundraising.co.uk, or contact [email protected] for more information.”

REGISTRATION FIGURES DOUBLE AS FIT FEVER BUILDS

Year-on-year visitor registration figures

are running at more than double those

recorded for a similar period in the build up

to the 2014 FIT Show. Figures are also way ahead

of the Award winning launch show that took place

in 2013, adding to the excitement that we are

heading for a record event when it takes place in

April.

Adding to the optimism are the website statistics:

almost 30% more users are accessing The FIT Show

website compared with a corresponding period

for 2014, with an exceptionally low bounce rate

(the number of visitors that leave a site without

interacting with it) of just 2.29%.

“The reasons for such exceptional figures can be

manifold,” said The FIT Show’s Matthew Glover.

“The obvious factors of a record number of exhibitors

coupled with hundreds of new products and services

expected to be revealed for the first time are an

obvious pull. And of course a positive outlook in the

market is also contributing.”

The FIT Show takes place at The International

Centre Telford on the 12th, 13th and 14th of

April 2016. Entry is free but avoid the queues by

registering early at www.fitshow.co.uk.

NEW SAFETY MEASURES TAKEN BY FRAMEXPRESS.

FrameXpress has once again taken a lead-ing position to reinforce quality standards and product guarantees. In a commitment to

provide customers with complete reassurance the company will now be incorporating the Trulock+ Multi-Point Locking System for Composite and pvc-u doors.

Senior management at the company considered this an important step when revising security options across the product range, to provide customers with a leading advantage.

Manufactured by Winkhaus the Trulock™ Multi-Point lock provides enhanced security and is used extensively across commercial and domestic sec-tors. For frameXpress customers this gives sales benefits when approaching homeowners and added reassurance in terms of product security in general. Additionally, the company will be incorporating the Winkhaus Armorshield, Kite marked cylinder and Palladio handles into the range to provide further safety benefits.

On projects where the vulnerability of tenants or owners must be considered, such as schools, housing association projects, hospitals or sheltered housing, Framexpress considers the improved Trulock™ sys-tem design, can withstand higher malicious abusive loads, providing the end user with greater peace of mind.

As a company, frameXpress regularly evaluates mar-ket trends, new legislation and customer needs, par-ticularly in relation to home security, which remains high on the list of priorities for end users.

FrameXpress achieved BSI Kitemark KM 505192 in 2015 in respect of doors and windows made from PVC-u extruded profile easily achieving the require-

ments in relation to safety, operation and strength. The enhanced security performance accredita-tion PAS 24:2012 was also achieved according to Secured By Design standards on all pvc-u doors.

Mark Westbrook, Managing Director at frameXpress comments, “We are recognised as a company that places quality guarantees as paramount and regu-larly review our production standards to make sure manufacturing methods remain consistently high. As security is critical in buildings today, with more concern than ever before needed and placed on safety, we felt it was important to give customers a leading edge with ultra modern security options fit-ted as standard across our range.”

FrameXpress is a leading UK fabricator of windows, doors and conservatories which has established a reputation over the years as a reliable, friendly and committed manufacturer that looks to grow working partnerships with customers, with a mutual purpose of business growth.

Fit Show Closed The Deal For Seal-Lite

When Jim and Chris Shearn of fast-expanding West-Country fabricator

Seal-Lite Group decided they needed a new welder amongst other machinery two years ago, they decided to put their buying decisions on hold until The FIT Show, which was due to take place a few months later in 2014.

They reasoned that rather than driving around the country looking at the equipment they were interested in from the companies they had identified as potential suppliers, The FIT Show could allow them to compare machines virtually side by side, all under the same roof at the same time. They reasoned that they could save time, hundreds of miles travelling and possibly achieve a better price too.

Their patience paid off, as Jim explains: “there were a number of welding machines on our radar, all exhibiting at FIT Show, in particular a 4 head inline welding machine from Haffner-Murat, the SMR-4. It had some new features and benefits over and above machines offered by other suppliers but I had no idea about the build quality offered by this company.

“I am an engineer with an aerospace background and understand and appreciate engineering, build-quality and technology and I took the opportunity to literally climb all over the machine, on top of it and as far inside it as I could get. One of their team said to me that he had never seen anyone climb over one of their machines like it at a show before. But clearly we were impressed because we bought it

there and then,” added Jim.Jim is one of a large band of professionals that are committed to using The FIT Show as the hub for their company’s purchasing activities, realising that it presents the perfect opportunity to see, touch and try products and equipment in a matter of hours that would otherwise take several months to evaluate.

“We felt the show saved us time and money and we are looking forward to this year’s FIT Show in April,” said Jim.

More than 175 exhibitors are taking part at The FIT Show which takes place at The International Centre Telford on the 12th, 13th and 14th of April 2016. Entry is free but registering now at www.fitshow.co.uk will offer fast access to the halls when you get there.

January saw preparations for the GM Fundraising

Border2Border Cycling Challenge step up a gear.

“With the ride only a few months away, the attention

of the whole team is being focused on preparing for the

upcoming challenge,” explains Gary Morton, founder of

GM Fundraising and Rider on the B2B challenge. “All

the riders will be increasing their training levels and

official training schedules have been circulated.

“Although not obligatory, the riders are expected to

attend three weekends of group training. The first takes

place at Hope House in March, to remind us all for whom

we are ultimately doing this. The second in Mallorca

in April is to get us used to the different terrain and

increased temperatures. The third, which is compulsory,

takes place in the Peak District in May. We encourage

everyone involved to attend these weekends so that we

can learn to work as a team and build up some of the

much talked about comradery that is so important in

keeping everyone going through the toughest moments.

And believe me, this ride is going to have some of the

toughest.”

The first support team meeting, has also now taken

place, which saw all the support team together for

the first time on this ride and provided the perfect

opportunity for the team to welcome the final

member of the support crew on board, Chris Royall.

Dave Broxton, Support Team Captain, comments:

“When it comes to supporting the riders, our mantra is

‘plan for the worst – hope for the best’. The main topic

of the meeting was the route and the difficulties day-

by-day of supporting the riders without the things we

now-days take for granted, like mobile coverage.

“Much of the ride will be taking place in the absolute

wilderness of mountains and deserts. There are hardly

any towns en-route so it is essential that each support

vehicle knows all the emergency contacts and places

for each stage of the ride. We will also be investing in

Satellite phones which we hope never to use.”

Gary concludes: “The team has also turned to the all-

important fundraising, the main reason this challenge is

even taking place. The Team Profiles are now online and

each person offers up an insight into their motivation,

explaining what they are most looking forward to, and

dreading, throughout the ride.

“Visit our website look out for posts on Facebook/

gmfundraising and Twitter @gmfundraising sharing

links to the team pages or follow #gmfb2b to see how

the whole team are busy organising events and other

challenges.”
