Tena ra koutou ki nga hau e wha – Greetings to everybody. Welcome back to school. Thank you to all of the wonderful parents who came to their child’s learning conference this week. The students have enjoyed making preparations to share their learning, selecting work that they are proud of, that is significant to them. We are so proud of all our students, their achievements and how well they are growing in confidence with articulating their learning. We hope parents gained as much value and enjoyment out of the conferences as the children did. I congratulate all of our teachers for the fantastic work they are doing with our students. You are all amazing! We are hoping for a fine day for our school cross country event on Wednesday 12 th August. Training is in full swing. Parents are welcome, and as always we need some helpers on the day to enable the event to take place. Your support is always appreciated! We are continuing our focus on wellbeing with the other Kahui Ako schools, and I was reminded about the power of positive emotions at a recent professional learning event. I also came across some interesting points related to positive thinking in a recent EAP flier, which I would like to share here. Which way do you choose to see life? As an optimist, seeing the glass half full? Or, a pessimist, seeing the glass as half empty? Optimistic thinking is characterised by a positive outlook on life and the belief that the future is full of great things, while pessimistic thinking is characterised by a bleak outlook of the future and the belief that things will always be bad. The power of positive thinking is remarkable. Your mind can change your world! Some tips to start thinking positively include replacing the negativity in your surroundings and life. Be cautious about your choice of media. Exercising regularly helps to relax and refocus your mind. It’s good for your physical health and releases tension and stress. When you are in a negative situation, try to find what is good or helpful about it. Try not to make a mountain out of a molehill. Ask yourself - will this matter in two years? two weeks? two days? Sometimes talking to someone else can help

NEWSLETTERS ARE DISTRUBITED FORTNIGHTLY ON EVEN WEEKS.

We are so proud of all our students, their achievements and how well they are growing in confidence with articulating their learning. to find a more grounded perspective on the situation. Show gratitude. Be grateful for things you take for granted. Reflect on what you can be grateful for: clean water, a roof over your head, family, friends and work colleagues. Bring positivity to someone else’s life. Be kind, give a compliment, help someone, offer your time, listen to others and be there for them. Get your day off to a positive start. Engage in a motivating conversation with someone. Have a quote that inspires you or a photo you like placed somewhere you will see it. Positive thoughts can change your life and enhance the lives of people around you.

Please note that we can not guarantee start times because the next race will not start until everyone from the previous race is back. It is hoped that everyone up to the end of the 8-year-olds race before interval. If not, then we will continue from there. The Kindy plan to arrive at 10.30 for their race around the field. Also, please note that children 8 years and up are racing in the age group that is their age on January 1st this year (not necessarily the age they are now). This is to align us with the WPSSA regulations for the inter-school competition. As usual, parent helpers are required as marshals around the track. If you can help, please return the slip below or email me ASAP. We appreciate any and all help we receive from our fantastic community. Thank you Mark Buckland [email protected] __________________________________________________________________ I am available to help marshal on Cross Country Day - Wednesday 12th August. News from the Support Group! Giant Book and Puzzle Sale:

• The preparation for the Giant Book and Puzzle Sale is going really well!

A huge “thank you” to everyone that has brought books and puzzles in so far, and also the supermarket paper bags – keep them coming!

• Please tell all your family and friends to keep bringing their unwanted books and puzzles in to us, and to pop the book sale date in their diaries now! Sunday 30th August 9am-2pm.

• We are looking for volunteers to help us out with sorting the books on Saturday 29th August, and also with running the book sale/bake sale/sausage sizzle on Sunday 30th August. If you have some spare time on these days, and would like to help out, please either email [email protected], or pop in and let Katie know in the office.

• We have organised a bookmark competition for the kids, to get them involved with the book sale. They will bring templates home, and can design as many bookmarks as they like! There will be a book-related prize for the two winners – one from the junior school and one from the senior school. Please bring the bookmarks into the office when they are completed.

• To make the bake sale component of our event as amazing as we want it to be, we need your help, please! During the week leading up to the book sale, each family will be given a cake box. We would really love if as many people as possible could do some baking for us (a cake, some cupcakes or muffins, biscuits, a slice etc) and bring it to the hall between 10am-5pm on Saturday 29th August (the day before the bake sale). If

Mufti Day Friday 7 August Theme: Being Unique Let’s be as unique as we can, by wearing a unique costume, a unique painted face, a unique hairstyle, a unique hat, or anything else, just be creative!! COVID has reduced the funds for the Life Education Trust, so let’s show ‘HURUPAKI CARES’ to help out our friend Harold, by bringing a gold coin donation. Harold will be there to cheer us on and join the fun! Thank you, Margaret Barber
