As the design of Akar Central Drive Circular Clarifiers with Mechanical Scraper Mechanism depends on the design of the basin, Akar Circular Clarifiers are tailor made to suit clients' specific needs. The range generally varies from 8 meters diameter to more than 40 meters dia. It is observed that Circular Clarifiers with Mechanical Scraper Mechanism for diameters exceeding 40 meters may result in excessive stress on the gearbox and may be designed only if unavoidable.

There are many types of clarifiers in use for water and waste water treatment. Some of the popular ones

1. Akar is highly experienced and has supplied hundreds of Central Drive Circular Clarifiers with Mechanical

Scraper Mechanism in many parts of the world. This includes Central Drive Circular Clarifiers with

Mechanical Scraper Mechanism and Clariflocculators with Central Drive Mechanical Scraper Mechanism

up to 40 meters diameter. These clarifiers are in use since more than two decades without any problems.

2. Akar's design is robust, simple and economical. Akar's products are economical to use and to service.

3. All the components are sand blasted and painted in paint booth with water resistant paints.

4. Usually the standard production clarifiers are made in Mild Steel / Carbon Steel. However, Akar

manufactures full or part of clarifiers / clarifloculators in Stainless Steel construction on demand.

5. Only high grade materials, duly laboratory tested are used in manufacture.

6. Clarifier design is tested for longevity and reliability on advanced software to make it fool proof.

7. Akar conducts a series of performance tests in house, in its own design and testing facility and in simulated

operating conditions to ensure high value for money to the buyers.

8. Akar's clarifiers come with several special optional features such as:

a. Overload alarm

b. Mechanical lifting device: To protect against overload if there be any excessive sludge accumulation

in basin (when clarifier scraper mechanism is not operated for some days).

c. Direct removal of sludge through the walkway bridge mounted pipe, if required by client.

d. A special mechanical system to easily retrieve and repair arms and scraper blades.

e. Variable Frequency Drive (V.F.D.) on motors to reduce output revolutions per minute and save

energy, if required (as optional).

Functionally, a Peripheral Drive Clarifier is similar to a Central Drive Circular Clarifiers with Mechanical Scraper Mechanism except that drive mechanism is different. In case of a Central Drive Circular Clarifier with Mechanical Scraper Mechanism, drive unit is located at the centre and the drive is transferred from motor through a train of speed reducing mechanisms (such as gearbox, chain and sprocket drive, belt drive etc.) finally to a central shaft. However, a Peripheral Drive Clarifier is fitted with drive mechanism located on the periphery of the clarifier tank. Akar manufactures and supplies peripheral drive clarifiers of different configurations as follows:vWith Cast iron (C.I.) wheels (with peripheral steel tracks, if required). These are heavy but economical and

sturdy or with C.I. wheels and polyurethane tread or C.I. wheels and rubber tread.vWith walkway on one side or both sides.vWith or without Scum Scraper and Scum Guard.vWith or without all underwater parts in stainless steel.vWith or without Variable Frequency Drive.

Advantages of Akar Peripheral Drive Clarifiers:vRemovable or retrievable arms for quick and easier maintenance. This avoids, dewatering the reservoir

tank, when repair becomes necessary.vIn case there is any resistance to the scraping arms or in any other place, the wheels slip. This acts as a

natural clutch avoiding any strain on the transmission. vWe do not design all the basins and processes for which we supply clarifiers or clariflocculators.

However, if the whole system is designed by us, TSS comes down from 3000 ppm to 20 ppm subject to proper operating conditions.

vAll options, which are available in the case of circular central drive clarifiers, are also available in this case (peripheral drive), except for the drive system.

vAkar offers Variable Frequency Drives as optional to reduce the output rotation speed in revolutions per minute (R.P.M.), if client chooses.

MOTOR & GEAR ASSEMBLY WEIR PLATES

Akar clariflocculators are carefully designed to achieve faster flocculation and quick sedimentation of suspended matter. By achieving these twin objectives, Akar clariflocculators reduce foot print of the plant and thereby increase plant capacity. Gears and paddles are so designed and manufactured as to last over a decade under normal conditions, without requiring any major overhaul. There are many Akar equipment operating for more than ten years without any significant overhauling. Usage of corrosion resistant materials increase life of components and assemblies submerged in water. In the case of mild steel (carbon steel) a special treatment is given with corrosion resistant paint coatings to retard process of corrosion of submerged assemblies. All bush bearings are made from Aluminum Bronze metal.

Akar designs and manufactures Clariflocculators in a wide variety of sizes and configurations as demanded by operating conditions. There are no fixed sizes and the sizes are determined either by clients or by operating conditions. ClariflocculatorIn large water or Wastewater Treatment plants, flocculator and clarifier are combined together to achieve

economy in construction. The combined unit of flocculator and clarifier is known as clariflocculator.

Clariflocculator has two concentric tanks; with inner tank serving as flocculation basin and outer tank serving as

clarifier. Where water has to be clarified through addition of flocculants and where design considerations demand,

clariflocculators provide an optimum solution by giving high efficiency and economy of space and operation. In

Akar clariflocculators, effluent mixed with flocculants is guided to the flocculation chamber. In the flocculation

chamber, rapid settling flocs are formed. Clariflocculators are designed as to cater to the capacity requirement

both in terms of flow of effluent as well as floc formation and settling time.
