According to the Dalai Lama, a life worth living is a life that helps
others. If you make helping others a priority in your life, you’ll forget
about your own problems and help people with theirs. Win‐Win!
Your Activities Committee has been hard at work planning the rest of 2018.
March shifts into high gear with Phantoms Hockey, the Edison Museum and
lunch, the St. Patrick's Day Parade and Post‐Party, the Lehigh Valley Auto Show,
Wert's Café, and we cap it off celebrating Memphis at the Easton Theater.
Contact Jeff Mohring if you have an event you would like to run, but you should
hurry because the 2018 calendar is filling up quickly.
Happy St. Patrick's Day from O'Cutro!
Best Regards,
Mike Cutro
AACC President
Editor’s Note: For February 2018, Mike recognized club members Jim Flader and
Donna Sowden for their assistance with the Springfest Tricky Tray preparations.
Jim and Donna graciously offered to store all charity items and manage the
donation registry. Thanks so much!

Fri., Mar. 02 | Mike Best coordinated a group event to watch our Lehigh Valley Phantoms defeat
divisional rivals Hershey Bears in a 7‐6 regulation win. The afternoon’s storm kept game atten‐
dance to a minimum, so there was plenty of elbow room in the stands. Those members who could not attend missed a
real nail‐biter! Thanks, Mike, for again setting up this game night.

K&N’s New C6/C7 Cabin Air Filter by Chris McWilliams (CorvetteOnline.com) Mon., Feb. 05 | Regardless of whether you own a 2005 – 2018 Corvette convertible or coupe, whether the top is
down or just the windows, unseen invaders are grabbing a ride in your car and they can make your trip miserable. Dust,
pollen, spores, bacteria, and other allergens are entering the cockpit. You can roll‐up [sic] the windows and receive pro‐
tection inside the closed cockpit by virtue of the fact that your Corvette is equipped with a cabin air filter. A cabin air
filter is the first line of defense for what you breathe. Since it’s a filter, it’s an item that requires maintenance. You will
find the recommended replacement interval in your factory owner’s manual, but there are a number of conditions that
could shorten those intervals.
For example, if you drive in an area with sand or dust in the air, you might find that these particulates have collected on
your filter and have reduced air flow through your HVAC system so that even when you turn the A/C to high[,] you get
more noise than cold air. Another is persistent bad odors that come from bacteria or mold growing on the filter in cars
in [sic] operated in damp climates. (Continued on page 11)
What Type Are You? by Marty Hegyi, AACC Membership Committee Co-Chair (’69, ‘17) Tue., Feb. 27 | One of the nice things about being a member of any club or organization is that you get to meet and
know a variety of different people from various educational and professional backgrounds, all having one common in‐
terest. This is true whether you belong to a Sportsman club, Health club or a Car club. When it comes to Car Clubs, all
members’ interests can be broken down into four types: waxers, racers, diners and day‐trippers.
Waxers – Members who spend many hours or days cleaning and polishing their cars to the nth degree and attend
car shows and cruise nights on a weekly basis to compete for trophies and other prizes.
Racers – Members who participate in automotive events such as autocrosses, drag racing or other High Perform‐
ance Driving Events (HPDE) on an enclosed track where they race against a clock or other drivers for awards and
prizes.
Diners – Members who attend all the organized food events such as group lunches and dinners at a particular res‐
taurant or club events such as a picnic or holiday party. (A large majority of AACC members seem to fall into this
category.)
Day‐Trippers – Members who enjoy taking their cars out for the day and driving them to the mountains, the beach
or other destinations with the top down or roof off, on warm, sunny days. Often this involves a group of cars cara‐
vanning to a particular destination. Members who participate in road rallies also fall into this category.
All of the above types apply to AACC. Every one of us falls into at least one of these types, and for many of us, several
apply. The one common interest that brings us together is our Corvettes. But to get the most enjoyment out of your
Club and your ‘Vette, you have to participate in the various activities AACC offers and ask yourself: What type am I?

Cabin Air Filter Continued...
There is an option to replacing your disposable cabin air filter that will just end up in a landfill. K&N cabin air filters[,
however,] are the first of their kind designed to replace your vehicle’s stock cabin air filter with a washable and reus‐
able upgrade that cleans and freshens incoming air.
K&N cabin air filters are manufactured from a non‐woven synthetic filter media that’s electrostatically charged to grab
and hold dust and other airborne particles. [They] … also help control odors while they ... capture most mold, mildew,
fungus, spores, bacteria, and germs.
[It is] ... easy to replace your Corvette’s cabin air filter. [It] ... is a quick operation … [and] is as simple as exchanging the
old, dirty filter for a new one. The housing for the filter is located under the hood, and the filter is accessed by remov‐
ing a few clips.
The only maintenance required for a K&N cabin air filter is a service you can do yourself in no time at all. At intervals of
50,000 miles, using a K&N 99‐6000 cabin air filter cleaning kit, you can easily renew and re‐oil your air filter, which
brings it back to brand‐new condition and ready to protect your car’s cabin for another 50,000 miles. Your K&N cabin
air filter is designed to last for the life of your vehicle, which is guaranteed by the K&N 10‐Year/Million Mile Limited
Warranty.

Philly Vandals Trash 1985 Corvette by Andrew Bolig (CorvetteOnline.com) Thu., Feb. 15 | Super Bowl wins can have an interesting effect on both the
winners and the losers. Sometimes, the losers show more sportsmanship than
the winners[,] and sometimes they become vandals whether they win or lose.
That said, the City of Brotherly Love was far from it for one C4 Corvette owner
who parked her car at an art museum located at the corner of Judson Street
and Pennsylvania Avenue. She parked there so she could view the parade be‐
ing held on February 8th to celebrate the Eagles’ [sic] winning the Super Bowl.
While she was away, a crowd formed around and on her 1985 Corvette. Several people then proceeded to jump up and
down on the vehicle at the same time, which resulted in extensive damage to the car’s top, hood and other body pan‐
els. Thankfully, other people in attendance took video of those who were doing the damage and now the Philadelphia
Police are looking to bring those folks to justice.
Police are asking anyone that might know anything about the incident to call 215‐686‐TIPS (8477), text ... PPDTIP
(773847) or email ... [email protected]. They ask that if you recognize anyone in this video, do not approach them,
but rather dial 9‐1‐1. All tips will be kept confidential.

Z06 Found in Storage Locker by Scott Huntington (CorvetteOnline.com) Tue., Feb. 20 | Some of us set a new pair of sneakers aside to avoid that first scuff, or buy a new tee shirt … [to] enjoy
it a few weeks later. However, putting a car in storage and forgetting about it—and not just any car, a Z06 Corvette—
... might be a sign you’ve got too much going on.
Nevertheless, someone has done exactly that. A 2009 Z06 Corvette with just 700 miles on the clock is currently avail‐
able on eBay after being discovered in a storage unit.
You’ve probably heard stories about people who find vintage
Porsches and Ferraris stashed away in barns on the east coast.
Nostalgic though they might be, those cars still need a lot of atten‐
tion to achieve their full potential. This 2009 ‘Vette, however, is
ready to hit the streets with nothing more than a quick oil change.
The car is decked out in gloss black and comes with the increas‐
ingly rare manual transmission. As Corvettes go, this is the top‐of‐
the‐line car for 2009, and yet someone felt like the best place for it was in a storage locker.
The collector market for Corvettes is strong, but it’s hard to put a price tag on this new/old car because it’s not a lim‐
ited‐production model or one of a small number of cars with specific options. Still, it appears to have been extremely
well kept. Next to its home in the storage facility, the only place it might have been safer from the elements is a sealed,
temperature‐controlled garage.
As you can see from the image below, it cleaned up pretty well after a quick wash. And despite the fact that it has mi‐
nor cosmetic damage, the fact that it is only sporting 700 miles on the odometer is every Corvette owner’s dream. We
hope it doesn’t just get parked again, but we definitely couldn’t blame anyone for keeping it in pristine condition. With
the veritable LS7 lurking under the hood, an engine sure to become collectible at some point, it’s only a matter of time
before this piece of automotive history starts appreciating – well, more than it already has with such low mileage.
The black leather interior is in perfect condition, but the car is not perfect, suf‐
fering from some minor cosmetic damage that was probably inflicted while
moving it into the storage facility. The car recently got a new set of tires, and
the fluids have been changed, so all you would have to do to take it for a spin
is brush the dust off.
Something that might dissuade someone from buying the vehicle would be the fact that it likely has a large lien on the
car or severe title issues. There’s probably a reason it just sat in a storage locker until someone bought it and cleared it
out. However, initial bids on the car were in the $30,000 range, though they soon skyrocketed and the car just sold for
$57k. So you can abandon your hopes of getting a bargain Z06, but keep checking those storage sheds to see what you
might find.

Build Your Own 2019 ZR1 by Andrew Bolig (CorvetteOnline.com) Fri., Mar. 02 | Chevrolet has recently updated their website to include the build configurator for their 2019 offerings.
That includes the new 755 horsepower ZR1 Corvette that has been promised since November. Now, enthusiasts can
option out their own perfect example of the fastest car Chevrolet has ever produced. There are also configurators for
all 2019 Corvette offerings including the Stingray, Grand Sport and the Z06.
We spent some time on the Chevrolet website, er, doing research, and we’ve spec’d out a couple of options. We like
the entire C7 line of Corvettes, but who can argue with 755‐hp on tap! So, as you can imagine, the bulk of our
“research” dealt with the ZR1. We “built” a ZR1 that fit out [sic] needs (likely a little more low‐key than most ZR1 shop‐
pers) and then shot for the moon on our second round, clicking boxes to get a little more shock & awe.
While we can quietly savor a car of the Vanilla hue, it
was near impossible to build a new ZR1 in another
color than the newly introduced Sebring Orange Tint‐
coat. While a premium color and commanding another
$995 to the price, we feel this color is quite befitting of
a car of this stature and well worth the additional cost.
While the trend in performance vehicles seems to
gravitate to a shade of black or graphite wheels, we found that the standard Pearl Nickel‐painted wheels were quite
fitting, regardless of the darker shade’s more performance‐oriented persona.
Beyond that, the major difference came down to the new ZTK Track Performance Package and the Sebring Orange De‐
sign Package. Having a bit of a “Jekyll & Hyde” moment, we could see ourselves opting for the ZTK Performance Pack‐
age (including its attention‐demanding rear wing) but likely would opt out of the Sebring Orange Design Package as we
just can [sic] see the need for orange seat‐belts. Your mileage may vary.
All in all, we think the ZR1 styling is top‐notch, whether it has the wing or not, and it was fun to spend some time
spec’ing out one of the baddest, fastest cars in the world today. Hopefully, if the numbers on this slip of paper wind up
matching those on the TV, we’ll be hitting the “Buy Now!” button very soon! Head over to Chevrolet’s online Build Your
Own page and assemble your own version of the perfect Corvette. That way you’ll be prepared when it comes time to
lay down a few Grover Clevelands for your new ZR1.
Editor’s Note: Earlier this week, club member Bill
Corwin was in Naples, FL where he had an exclusive
sighting — at least 6 2019 ZR1s being road tested! This
is a yellow coupe following a gray convertible.

NCM News & Events Continued... Corvette Profile: The 1957 Production Racer
Feb. 08 | In the performance section of the National Corvette Museum,
hundreds of thousands of visitors every year see examples of Corvette racing throughout the
years. One of the earliest examples of Corvette racing, and one that is often overlooked due to
how stock the racer looks cosmetically, is the 1957 #4 fuel injected Corvette. Read more at:

New to the Floor - 1953 Corvette Cutaway Chassis Feb. 22 | New to the display floor at the National Corvette Museum is a 1963 Cor‐
vette cutaway chassis, on loan from Ed Foss. The display illustrates what's “under the
hood” of those first 300 Corvettes. Watch the video at:

Museum Exhibit — 1986 Corvette Indy Feb. 22 | Back in the mid‐1980s, General Motors released one of the most technologi‐
cally advanced cars ever created for its time; [sic] the Corvette C4. Upon release of the
C4, the world was incredibly excited for what the car was capable of. In the 1980s, car
design was like music of time. It was out with the old, and in with the new – the newer
and more technologically advanced, the better. All of this technological advancement
helped the new C4 sell over 51,500 units in 1984. To this day, it is the 2nd best‐selling
Corvette year of all time behind the 1979 model year (53,807 units sold).
The overwhelmingly positive response to the C4 led to one of the most ambitious concept cars of all time; the 1986
Corvette Indy. Read more at: http://www.corvettemuseum.org/corvette‐profiles‐1986‐corvette‐indy/
