Second Amendment Foundation Launches Huge Online Store
Second Amendment Foundation
BELLEVUE, WA --(Ammoland.com)- Today, the Second Amendment

organizations which support the Foundation.
In addition to the affiliate program, the store now offers gift certificates
for those hard-to-buy-for friends and family, and has also added a “wish
list” function which enables shoppers to add items to a ‘buy’ list and
forward the list via email, just in time for the upcoming holiday season.
“We’re making strides with the store and look forward to
adding more value in the form of additional merchandise
lines, and making the customer’s shopping experience more
pleasant” said Robert Kreisler, General Manager of the online
store.
Interested webmasters are encouraged to contact the SAF Store
management through the ‘affiliate program’ link under the site’s main

Second Amendment Rights Reaffirmed After Sacramento
Sheriff’s Office Changes Gun Carry Policies
Case continues against yolo county, CA to secure right to self-defense.
Second Amendment Foundation
BELLEVUE, WA --(Ammoland.com)- The Second Amendment
Foundation (SAF) and the Calguns Foundation have dismissed their case
against Sacramento County, California and its Sheriff, John McGinness,
after the Sheriff modified his handgun carry permitting policy.
Law-abiding Sacramento County residents may now successfully apply
for permits to carry handguns by asserting self-defense as a basis for
carry permit issuance. A one-year residency requirement has been

eliminated, as has policy language that tied self-defense to arbitrary
geographic factors.
While Sacramento County has changed its policies, other counties still
fail to recognize that self-defense is a legally sufficient reason for
issuance of a handgun carry permit. The litigation will continue against
Yolo County and its Sheriff, Ed Prieto, on behalf of SAF, Calguns, and
Davis resident Adam Richards. Additionally, this past March, Calguns
supporter Brett Stewart unsuccessfully asserted self-defense as a basis
for seeking a carrying license from Sheriff Prieto.
The Sheriff’s written policy states that “self protection and protection of
family (without credible threats of violence)” are insufficient reasons to
exercise Second Amendment rights. Mr. Stewart will seek to join the
litigation as a plaintiff in this case, now styled Richards v. Prieto.
“We are very happy to have been able to work with Sheriff
McGinness to assist Sacramento County in revising their
policies and practices,” said Gene Hoffman, Chairman of the
Calguns Foundation. “Over the past year, more than 30 of our
law abiding members and supporters have received licenses
to carry firearms with good cause’ statements that are simple
variations of self-defense. Even though the Sheriff is retiring
at the end of the year, both candidates to replace Sheriff
McGinness have publicly stated their support for Second
Amendment rights and that they consider self-defense a
compelling reason for issuance of gun carry permit.”
“The Second Amendment Foundation will continue working
with the Calguns Foundation and keep funding attorney Alan
Gura’s lawsuits in California until everyone’s firearms civil
rights are fully protected,” added SAF founder Alan Gottlieb.
“Together, we will see many more legal victories.”
For those who wish to apply for a CCW permit, the Calguns Foundation
maintains an informational portal to assist applicants in all 58 California
counties as part of its recently announced Carry Licensing Compliance
and Sunshine Initiative. The Sacramento County page has details on the
actual procedure and successful good cause statements and is available
at http://bit.ly/CGFSacCarry .

Nebraska Pheasant Season Opens Oct. 30
Nebraska Game and Parks Commission
LINCOLN, Neb. –-(Ammoland.com)- Pheasant hunting season opens
across the state on Oct. 30, according to the Nebraska Game and Parks
Commission.
Pheasant abundance appears to be high in southwest Nebraska,
according to Game and Parks’ 2010 Upland Game Hunting Outlook.
Combined with public access, this region should offer excellent pheasant
hunting opportunities. The outlook is based on surveys and input from
biologists and staff.
According to the outlook, the abundance of pheasants in Nebraska this
year is highest in the southwest, followed by the Sandhills, central,
northeast, Panhandle, and southeast regions. Overall, the abundance
statewide is slightly lower than in 2009.
Pheasant season is an excellent opportunity for experienced hunters to
introduce the activity to a person who never has hunted or reintroduce it
to someone who has not hunted in many years.
The pheasant season ends Jan. 31, 2011. Only rooster pheasants may be
taken. The daily bag limit is three birds and the possession limit is 12.
The quail and partridge seasons also are Oct. 30-Jan. 31.
All upland bird hunters, except for residents under age 16, are required
to have a Nebraska hunting license and a habitat stamp. An annual
permit costs $14 for residents and $81 for nonresidents. The annual
habitat stamp is $20.
Hunters should review the 2010 Nebraska Public Access Atlas, which
includes Conservation Reserve Program-Management Access Program
lands, as well as Open Fields and Waters program lands, and other
public hunting lands.
Permits and stamps may be purchased at OutdoorNebraska.org.

American Deer & Wildlife Alliance Supports Choice for North
Dakota Hunters
American Deer & Wildlife Alliance
AUSTIN, Texas --(Ammoland.com)- On Nov. 2nd, North Dakota
voters will consider Measure 2, a ballot initiative which could restrict
hunting opportunities and land owners’ rights.
The American Deer & Wildlife Alliance (ADWA) reaffirms its support for
freedom of choice among sportsmen in all forms of hunting and private
property rights for land owners.
The ADWA strongly believes support for all forms of hunting creates
more hunting opportunities, provides greater accessibility for sportsmen
of all ages, and helps preserve our American outdoor traditions.

“Measure 2 will ban certain types of hunting, cost thousands
of jobs in the state and - even more disturbing – take away a
land owner’s right to do what they want with their own
property,” says John Meng, president of ADWA.
“Private property rights are the cornerstone of America. If
North Dakota’s Measure 2 is passed, sportsmen will have less
opportunities to hunt and we all lose a bit more of our
freedom. We lose more of what makes us Americans.”
If approved, the ballot initiative known as Measure 2 will ban hunting
preserves and prevent sportsmen from deciding for themselves how and
where to hunt. In addition, the measure will make it a criminal offense
for someone to operate a game ranch which involves privately-owned big
game or exotic mammals.
The American Deer & Wildlife Alliance is a non-profit organization
working to promote the deer and wildlife industry and to preserve our
American outdoor traditions. As a part of its public education efforts,
ADWA produces Points Journal, a full-color magazine covering industry
news, wildlife management issues, products and services; Spikes
Magazine, a quarterly youth publication distributed to summer camps
and public libraries across the country; and the www.iHuntAmerica.com
website, a comprehensive search engine for hunting ranches, game
preserves and outfitters. ADWA also sponsors Keith Warren’s Deer &
Wildlife Stories, which airs on the Pursuit Channel, and the Outdoor
Patriot, an online podcast which features commentary and industry
guests.

Colorado Supreme Court ToConsider CU Gun BanOCT 25, 2010 04:51P.M.
Colorado Supreme Court To Consider CU Gun Ban
Students for Concealed Carry on Campus
Any Campus, USA --(Ammoland.com)- Once again, Colorado is the
scene for one of the next steps in the fight to restore the right to self-
defense on campus, as once again one of their flagship universities turns
to the courts to validate its defiance of state law.
The University of Colorado (CU) is being sued by Students for Concealed
Carry on Campus (SCCC) for its refusal to comply with the state law
passed in 2002 which restricts entities that can prohibit concealed carry.
The university board of regents still asserts their right to enact campus-
wide bans on concealed carry, despite its absence on the list of approved
self-defense regulators.
In December 2008, SCCC in conjunction with the Mountain States Legal
Foundation sued CU for violating Colorado law. The court dismissed the
lawsuit, but an appeal quickly brought victory. The CU Board of Regents
voted to appeal.
On Monday, the Colorado Supreme Court agreed to grant a writ of
certiorari to CU in their appeal.
At issue, states the court, is:
• Whether the General Assembly intended the Concealed Carry Act
to divest the Board of Regents of its constitutional and statutory
authority to enact safety and welfare measures for the University of
Colorado’s campuses.
• Whether a constitutional challenge to a statute or ordinance
regulating the right to bear arms is governed by the deferential
“rational basis” standard of review or a more stringent “reasonable
exercise” standard of review.
Gun control advocate Paul Helmke issued a statement, saying
“We urge the Court to allow the University of Colorado to
continue to protect student safety by prohibiting armed

students and visitors.”
Oddly enough, safety appears to be the last thing on the minds of Paul
Helmke or the CU board of regents; crime at CU has risen 35 percent in
the past four years under CU’s gun ban, while crime at nearby Colorado
State University has dropped 60 percent in the same time frame. (CSU
has allowed concealed carry by licensed individuals since 2003 without
incident.)
“Gun control advocates stubbornly stick to their theory that
paper and ink on the doors will prevent crime,” stated SCCC
President David Burnett.
“While they desperately pursue validation from higher courts,
14 other colleges have recognized that the fear of
encountering armed resistance repels criminals far better
than stickers. At best, the anti-defense advocates will be
taking one step forward and 14 steps back.”
SCCC advocates only those citizens already possessing the credentials be
allowed to carry a concealed weapon to carry on campus for self-
protection.

Ellk & Deer Hunters Fared Wellin Montana Opening WeekendOCT 25, 2010 04:37P.M.
Ellk & Deer Hunters Fared Well in Montana Opening Weekend
Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks
MALTA, Mont. --(Ammoland.com)- For the first time in recent history,
deer and elk hunters had two weekend days to head to the field for the
opening of the big game rifle season.
General deer and elk seasons opened on Saturday, instead of Sunday,
this year.
This extra day of hunter opportunity did not directly translate into
double hunter numbers or harvest from past opening Sundays, but
Region 2 hunter check station data for the weekend did show hunter
success rates on par with the past five years—with an average of 9
percent of hunters bringing home game in the season’s first two days.
Over 2,800 hunters passed through the three Montana Fish Wildlife &
Parks (FWP) check stations in west-central Montana – located near
Darby, Bonner and Anaconda - this opening weekend, compared to
2,715 on opening Sunday last year. These hunters checked a total of 251
animals, including 137 elk, 26 mule deer and 83 white-tailed deer. Last
year, on opening day, hunters reported 100 elk, 17 mule deer, and 44
white-tailed deer.
Because of the two-day opening weekend this year, direct comparisons
can’t be made to deer and elk harvest numbers in previous openers, but
the region’s check stations still had stories to tell.
Although the 1,082 hunters that passed through the Darby check station
in the Bitterroot Valley over two days almost equaled the 5-year average
of 1,050 for opening day, more of these hunters had elk than in recent

10
years. The harvest of 81 elk through Darby was the highest ever recorded
in 57 years for this point in the season. Approximately 75% of these elk
were harvested in the Big Hole Valley. FWP counts harvest from the Big
Hole because many of these elk winter in the East Fork of the Bitterroot
(Hunting District 270). Very few harvested elk came from the West Fork
of the Bitterroot where elk numbers are well below objective and FWP
has nearly eliminated antlerless elk harvest opportunity.
Hunters reported 26 elk through the Anaconda station, and harvest
locations were widely scattered from the drainages leading to the check
station.
“This was a great opening weekend for elk hunters in the
Upper Clark Fork,” FWP Wildlife Biologist, Ray Vinkey said.
White-tailed deer harvest over the weekend was down in the Blackfoot
compared to the five-year average for opening day due largely to more
conservative hunting seasons for does and fawns. FWP eliminated the
traditional first eight-day either sex season for white-tails this year for
the first time in over a decade. Hunters still reported harvesting 58
white-tailed deer, this year, which included 44 bucks.
By the end of the weekend, rain was falling across most of the western
Montana valleys and snow was beginning to collect in the higher
elevations, giving a promising outlook to harvest success for the
remainder of the season’s first week.
FWP Wildlife Manager Mike Thompson noted that the two-day opener
combined with an early youth deer hunt threw the hunter travel patterns
off a little bit this year and made it tricky to get a good read on how
harvest totals are standing compared to years past.
“We’ll have to wait to see how harvest totals play out over the
season, but so far the check station data is telling us that,
overall, hunters had a pretty good weekend out there,”
Thompson said.

Is Colorado Senator MichaelBennet Anti-Gun? Appears So!OCT 25, 2010 04:25P.M.
Is Colorado Senator Michael Bennet Anti-Gun? Appears So!
National Association for Gun Rights
Colorado -–(Ammoland.com)- I would like to tell you he isn’t, but
there’s no getting around the evidence. But more on that shortly.
Sometimes people make the mistake of believing that simply because a
politician says “I’m pro-gun” it means he or she will vote for freedom
once elected to office.
I hope you don’t make that mistake.
You see, the United States Senate is only one or two votes away from
taking away your right to keep and bear arms.
It is extremely dangerous for gun owners to take politician’s word,
especially during an election season. Even the smallest mistake in trust
could have disastrous consequences.
Consider this: We have the most anti-gun administration in years. The
last time we had executives this radical, the Brady Bill was shoved down
our throats, banning an entire class of semi-automatic hunting and
sporting rifles and stripping rights from gun owners.
In other words, it is absolutely critical for gun owners to know where
every candidate stands on liberty, especially in the U.S. Senate.
That’s why we sent surveys to candidates in the Colorado Senate race,
asking specific questions about their stance on your right to keep and
bear arms.

The results may surprise you.
First, the good news:
Republican U.S. Senate candidate Ken Buck answered the National
Association for Gun Rights’ 2010 Federal Candidate Survey 100% pro-
gun.
Ken Buck has a specific plan to oppose all gun legislation and protect
your rights.
But now for some bad news:
Democrat Senator Michael Bennet refused to answer our survey.
Unfortunately, when a candidate ignores our survey, it means they will
vote for gun control legislation if elected. It means they are hiding their
views.
But that’s not all.
Senator Bennet actually has a voting record, and it’s not good.
Bennet has routinely voted for gun control.
In fact, Senator Bennet has voted:
• to confirm the most anti-gun Attorney General in American
history;
• to confirm two of the most anti-gun Supreme Court nominees ever
offered;
• to confirm a new anti-gun “Regulatory Czar”.
…And the list goes on.
Bennet’s record is one of supporting gun control – even when the stakes
are high – and opposing pro-gun reforms.
That’s why it is vital in this election to make your voice heard.
Nothing gets my blood boiling more than politicians who believe in
compromising your rights for the sake of advancing their own careers,
especially when those rights are guaranteed by our Constitution.
Now we need to make sure that these politicians know whose rights they
are protecting and standing up for.
Here’s what you can do:
1. Call Senator Bennet’s office and tell him to apologize for his anti-
gun voting record. Demand that he answer the survey from the
National Association of Gun Rights and pledge that he will stand
up against anti-gun legislation in the future.
2. Thank Republican candidate Ken Buck for his staunch support of
the Second Amendment and for pledging to fight against efforts to
curb those rights.
There’s no question about it, the upcoming election is an historic one
that will greatly affect the direction our great country is headed, more so
than at any time in our lifetime.
With so much at stake, I am going above and beyond to make sure that
every person in Colorado who cares about the Second Amendment
knows exactly where their candidates stand.
But even more important, contact Senator Bennet to demand
he answer some hard questions about his views on the
Second Amendment.
Act fast. There’s not a moment to lose.
Sincerely, Dudley Brown
Executive Director
P.S. Make Senator Bennet apologize for his anti-gun voting record.
Contact his office and demand he answer the National Association for
Gun Rights survey and pledge to stand up against anti-gunners in
Washington.
And while you’re at it, thank Ken Buck for not compromising and for
answering his Candidate Survey 100% in favor of supporting your right
to keep and bear arms.

National Wildlife RefugesHonored With Federal Energy &Water Management AwardsOCT 25, 2010 04:16P.M.
National Wildlife Refuges Honored With Federal Energy &
Water Management Awards
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
Washington, DC --(Ammoland.com)- Two national wildlife refuges on
opposite coasts received 2010 Federal Energy and Water Management
Awards from the Department of Energy for their innovative, sustainable
designs of visitor centers and administrative headquarters.
The two U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service winners were Parker River
National Wildlife Refuge in Massachusetts and Inland Northwest
National Wildlife Refuge Complex, located on Turnbull National Wildlife
Refuge in Washington. The winners were announced during an awards
ceremony on October 7 in Washington, DC.
The Federal Energy and Water Management Awards recognize
individuals, groups and agencies for their outstanding contributions in
the areas of energy efficiency, water conservation and the use of
advanced and renewable energy technologies at federal facilities.
The Parker River Refuge Visitor Center and Administrative
Headquarters ( http://www.fws.gov/northeast/parkerriver/) was built in
2003 as a model of sustainable design, complete with passive solar
techniques, super-insulation of the building envelope, high-efficiency
lighting, and a geothermal open loop ground source heat pump that
reduces energy use by 41 percent as compared to a traditional office
building. Although the land around the building was restored to its
natural habitat, highly corrosive groundwater caused the geothermal
system to fail. Parker River Refuge was undeterred.
The refuge transformed the setback into a success by installing a solar
photovoltaic (PV) system that generates about 48 megawatt-hours per
year and supplies 33 percent of the building’s electrical needs. The
building also converted from geothermal to a natural gas-fired ENERGY
STAR heating system. These measures saved more than 115 million Btu
and 31 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions while reducing energy
costs by more than one third in FY2009. Even greater energy savings are
expected for FY2010, now that the PV system has had a full year of
operation. More than 255,000 visitors come through the center each
year and learn about the system’s performance by visiting the interactive
display.
The 6,957 square-foot headquarters and visitors center at Inland
Northwest National Wildlife Refuge Complex, Cheney, Washington,
incorporates numerous energy-saving strategies, including super-
insulation, a cool roof, energy-efficient LED lighting with occupancy
sensors, triple-paned low-emissivity windows, optimal building
orientation, and local stone and concrete to enhance thermal mass and
help maintain comfortable temperatures. The main building uses a
14.35-ton geothermal heat pump with an overhead electric forced-air
system for heating and cooling, a 4.9- kilowatt grid-tied solar
photovoltaic array for electricity and a flat-plate roof-mounted solar
collector system for hot water.
To conserve water, the grounds were landscaped with native plant
species; low-flow plumbing fixtures were used; and bioswales were
installed for parking lot runoff. Most of the building materials have a
high recycled content, and more than half of the construction waste was
recycled. The efficient design reduces energy use by about 32 percent as
compared to an average building; 15.5 megawatt-hours of renewable
power save at least 10 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually.
The visitor area of the new headquarters will include information
describing the sustainability and energy efficiency of the buildings.
Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge (http://www.fws.gov/turnbull/)
welcomes about 49,000 visitors annually and offers recreational and
educational opportunities year-round.
The Service is committed to reducing the carbon footprint of its facilities
and becoming carbon neutral by 2020, as outlined in its recently
finalized climate change strategy (
http://www.fws.gov/home/climatechange/strategy.html).
“The work of national wildlife refuges is essential not only in
protecting wildlife habitat, but also in leading by example in
energy efficiency,” said Acting Service Director Rowan Gould.
“Parker River National Wildlife Refuge and Inland Northwest
National Wildlife Refuge Complex are prime examples of how
we intend to reach our goal by 2020.”

Anchorage 2ATF Endorses JoeMiller For SenateOCT 25, 2010 01:16P.M.
Anchorage 2ATF Endorses Joe Miller For Senate
Anchorage Second Amendment Task Force
Anchorage, AK --(Ammoland.com)- The Anchorage Second
Amendment Task Force has decided unanimously to endorse Joe Miller
for the Senate race. The 2ATF forum members have spoken with many of
the network members and the response for Miller was overwhelming
after the July 22nd candidates forum.
Network members like Miller’s straight forward answers to questions.
They said there was nothng concealed in his responses. There has been a
great deal of concern about the Murkowski camp ignoring repeated
requests to participate in the forum.
Senator Murkowski earned a D rating from the NRA until she started
holding NRA Trap Shoot fund raisers which elevated her to an A rating.
The Senator has voted against gun owner rights many times. She voted
for the most un-American, anti-Second Amendment attorney general in
the history of the United States which shows poor taste and judgment.
Gun Owners of America (GOA) labeled her as a ‘compromiser’ because of
her drifting with the wind. How many times have the NRA and GOA
urged us to write to Murkowski to persuade her to vote American?
She eventually did change, but why was it necessary for us to
write to her? What part of ‘inalienable right’ doesn’t she
understand?
Lisa stood against America with her vote to expand the gun ban in
National Parks. She voted against the repeal of concealed carry
restrictions and against the sale of confiscated weapons while in the
State House. How short is the memory of the NRA? The NRA fell asleep
at the wheel on this one. Human error?
The Senator now claims the NRA is endorsing her. Our inquiry to the
NRA confirms this is not true. The NRA is endorsing the Republican
Candidate. We were told the Senator claims Chris Cox of the NRA gave
her the endorsement. Cox may have given his personal endorsement but
Cox doesn’t speak for the NRA on this issue.
Her opponent is Joe Miller, who earned his ‘A’ rating the hard way. He’s
displayed the same courage on his web site, by posting all relevant,
historical documents about himself, as he displayed in combat. His
background is infinitely superior and more qualified than Murkowski’s
was at any point in her life.
We support Joe Miller for the next U.S. Senator
from Alaska!!
All you have to do is fill the oval next to Millers name. You don’t even
need to know how to spell it…

provide Alaskans with the knowledge of the meaning and true purpose of
the second amendment to the U.S. Constitution, with which they may
conduct themselves as responsible citizens of our republic. Visit:

M855A1 Enhanced Performance Round
ATK
MINNEAPOLIS, MN --(Ammoland.com)- ATK (NYSE: ATK) has
received orders from the U.S. Army’s Program Manager for Maneuver
Ammunition Systems (PM-MAS) for nearly 300 million rounds of the
new M855A1 Enhanced Performance Round (EPR).
The EPR is an enhanced version of the M855 5.56mm cartridge, used by
U.S. troops since the early 1980s.
ATK is producing the new cartridge at the Lake City Army Ammunition
Plant in Independence, Mo. ATK produced the initial 20 million rounds
of M855A1, which were delivered to the troops in Afghanistan earlier this
year.
“This is a significant breakthrough in ammunition
performance for America’s warfighters,” said Mark Hissong,
ATK Small Caliber Systems Vice President and General
Manager.
“To ensure optimal performance, ATK and the Army put the
EPR through the most rigorous and thorough test regime of
any round we have ever produced. The result is the successful
fielding of a high-performance round that is in theater today,
and capable of providing superior firepower in any combat
condition.”
ATK partnered with the Army to develop a flexible manufacturing plan
to rapidly transition the EPR program into high-volume production. The
new round offers a higher velocity for more energy on target, improved
hard-target capability, and greater accuracy and consistency for
effectiveness at long range.
The round’s technological advancements, coupled with ATK’s innovative
approach to ammunition engineering, have delivered what the Army
calls “the most significant advancement in general purpose small caliber
ammunition in decades.”
ATK is a premier aerospace and defense company with operations in 24
states, Puerto Rico and internationally, and revenues of approximately
$4.8 billion. News and information can be found on the Internet at

The Flatbrook and Glassboro Wildlife Management Areas will be stocked
with pheasants for youth hunters who are not signed up for a guided
hunt on the other WMAs. Flatbrook and Glassboro will be open all day
for youth to hunt pheasant under the direct supervision of a properly
licensed, non-shooting adult 21 years of age or older. Additionally, the
eight WMAs where the guided hunts are scheduled are open after 1:00
p.m. for all youth hunters. Plenty of stocked pheasants remain after the
guided hunts on these WMAs and afternoon hunts can be productive and
enjoyable for youth hunters.
Upland Bird Hunting Day
The Youth Upland Bird Hunting Day provides a great opportunity for
hunters belonging to semi-wild preserves to introduce youth hunters to
upland bird hunting without competition from adult hunters.
Youth hunters with a valid youth license, under the direct supervision of
a New Jersey licensed, non-hunting adult 21 years or older, will be
permitted to hunt on licensed semi-wild hunting preserves on this day.
Youths may hunt for pheasant, quail and/or chukar from 8 a.m. to
sunset on October 30.
Information on all of the Take a Kid Hunting programs is provided in the
August 2010 Hunting and Trapping Issue of the New Jersey Fish and
Wildlife Digest, which is available at license agent locations or online at
www.njfishandwildlife.com/dighnt.htm.
