Jackson has been recognized as a ldquoTop Ten Metro Areardquo in the US based on the population category of fewer than 200000 released by the Site Selection Magazine Jackson with a total of nine projects in 2012 was tied for 7th place along with Midland Texas Decatur Alabama Saginaw Michigan Victoria Texas Winchester Virginia and Winchester West Virginia The ranking is based upon the number of corporate real estate facility projects announced in Jacksonrsquos metropoli-tan statistical area (MSA) during 2012 ldquoWe can attribute this ranking to a strong year in all of our industriesrdquo said City of Jackson Mayor Jerry Gist ldquoThese industries chose to grow here and made large contributions to our community We appreciate their investment in our cityrdquo To be included in a project database a project must be $1 million or more in capital investment create at least 50 new jobs or add at least 20000 square feet of new space Projects must also be corporate in nature such as office industrial warehouse flex data center call center and more Projects that are not counted are retail space restaurants hospitals schools churches government facilities or other institutional space In 2012 Jackson added a bevy of new jobs as existing companies created 528 jobs ldquoJackson continues to improve thanks in part to our industriesrdquo said Roy Heath-erly Board Chairman for the Jackson Chamber ldquoBy creating 528 jobs our local industries invested a total of $84585422 to our community We are always excited about the additional jobs we can bring to Jacksonrdquo It was in March 2012 that Armstrong World Industries a global leader in the design and manufacturing of floors ceilings and cabinets announced the addition of a third production shift The shift addition created 95 jobs that were added to its Jackson facility Another large announcement came from LyondellBasell which expanded its polypropylene compounding facility by adding a sixth production line at the site LyondellBasellrsquos expansion helped meet the growing needs of its customer base while creating eight permanent jobs and 30 indirect jobs in the area ldquoWersquore working to create the best environment for creating jobs and expanding existing businesses in Jackson and Madison Countyrdquo said Madison County Mayor Jimmy Harris ldquoIn the past five years 602 jobs were created by new companies while 2477 jobs were created by existing companies With those jobs a total of $398665819 was invested into Jackson and Madison Countyrdquo

Jackson Elks Lodge 192 Places Leaf On Tree Of Life For Breast Cancer Awareness The West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation honored Jackson Elks Lodge 192 with a ldquoleaf installation ceremonyrdquo on the Tree of Life in March ldquoJackson Elks Lodge 192 was proud to place the 9th leaf on the Foundationrsquos Tree of Life this past Marchrdquo stated Kay Pruett chair of the 9th Annual Elks Club Breast Cancer Walk The Jackson Elks Lodge raised more than $11000 for the Breast Cancer Awareness Fund of the Foundation through pledges donations and sponsorships This fund helps to raise awareness for the early detection and treatment of breast cancer The Breast Cancer Awareness Fund was organized on September 2 1993 by breast cancer survivors in an effort to help others learn the early signs of breast cancer Through the previous nine years the Jackson Elks Lodge has raised a total of $44000 for the fund Upon installing the 9th leaf on the Tree of Life Kay Pruett thanked all volunteers and donors and stated ldquoour lodge has been inspired by Pauline Lorentz my mother who is a nine-year breast cancer survivorrdquo Tammy Hardee one of the coordinators of the Breast Cancer Awareness Fund stated ldquoOur community is a better place because of people like Kay and the many volunteers who put their heart and lives into helping others fight the dreaded disease of cancer All of these proceeds stay local and help us work with local individualsrdquo ldquoThe WTH Foundation has been long been a resource for the communityrdquo said Frank McMeen president of the Foundation ldquoSo many lives are blessed when the community comes together to help others like the Elks Lodge has donerdquo ldquoOur Foundation has been a community leader regarding the fight with cancerrdquo stated Robert Caldwell Foundation board chair ldquoWe will not give up on helping our own local people fight this dreaded diseaserdquo The West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation began in 1984 out of a need expressed by community leaders Since that time the Foundation has grown to meet more and more community needs through establishing funds The Breast Cancer Awareness Fund is one among several hundred that have a local focus Charitable donations to this fund as well as any other fund are fully tax-deductible The last decade has seen a remarkable growth in endow-ments helping the Foundation to surpass the $24 million mark in assets

Lori Nunnery Earns lsquoTravel Marketing Professionalrsquo Certification from Southeast Tourism Society Marketing College

Lori Nunnery Executive Director of the Jackson Madison County Tennessee Convention and Visitors Bureau has earned cer-tification as a ldquoTravel Marketing Professionalrdquo (TMP) after completing the three-year program of the Southeast Tourism Society (STS) Marketing College Nunnery was one of 47 new TMPs recognized in 2013 STS Marketing College started in 1992 and 749 people have earned TMP certification Nunnery completed additional coursework offered by the Southeast Festivals amp Events Association over the three year period to receive additional certification as a ldquoFestival and Events Plannerrdquo (FEP) The STS Marketing College is a professional development program that for one week each summer turns the facilities of North Georgia College and State University in Dahlonega Ga into a laboratory to teach tourism marketing Instructors are working professionals in the travel industry such as convention and visitors bureau executives public relations practitioners sales and marketing consultants and research experts Course topics include special events marketing media relations tourism advertising vacation research crisis management heritage tourism and communityrural tourism After the classroom work students also must complete a project that relates to their employment ldquoOur curriculum is practical What students learn can be put to use as soon as they get back to their work-placesrdquo Hardman said ldquoThere is not another program like ours in the country we are the envy of travel professionals in other regionsrdquo said Bill

West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation Announces New Record The West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation announces a new record of assetsSince its beginning in 1984 the West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation has worked to improve the health and quality of life to those living in Jackson and West Tennessee With very humble beginnings the Foundationrsquos first project was to provide a new type of technology called a ldquoLife Linerdquo unit where the elderly and those with limited mobility could alert authorities in case of an emergency From this first project the Foundation has grown to become a leader in charitable causes and support Today the Foundation provides chari-table support to nearly 400 ldquofundsrdquo that add to the quality of life of the Jackson and West Tennessee communities In 1987 board treasurer Lawson Crain announced that the Foundation had $5331500 in funds By March of 1997 the Foundationrsquos assets had grown to slightly more than $2 million Ten years later (2007) the assets had grown to $10 million By June of 2008 in the midst of the Re-cession the assets had grown to exceed $15 million By the end of January of 2013 the Foundation had exceeded $24 million in assets ldquoThis financial record places the WTH Foundation in a position to do more good in our communityrdquo stated Bobby Walden board member since 2007 ldquoIt delights me to see this wonderful organization prosper Our board has worked hard to manage our investments Our staff has worked diligently to bring in new gifts This is a wonderful day for Jackson and West Tennesseerdquo stated Robert Caldwell current board chair Today the West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation reaches nearly every aspect of our communities Endowments have grown to ensure the perpetual support of the arts education and special needs children as well as historic preservation ldquoEach year it is impressive to see the growth of the Foundation We are blessed to have an organization that compliments so many good segments of our community In Downtown Jackson we will be unveiling a memorial to one of our countryrsquos greatest men M D Anderson a Jackson native Thanks to the Foundation and its community leadership we will unveil the monument later this springrdquo stated Jerry Gist Mayor of Jackson

Kaiser Aluminum Awarded 2012 Circle of Excellence Award Kaiser Aluminumrsquos Tennalum facility has been awarded the Companyrsquos 2012 Circle of Excellence Award The award was presented to Mark Lane Tennalum General Manager by Jack Hockema President CEO and Chairman of Kaiser Aluminum Corporation at the annual awards dinner in Newport Beach California on Friday evening March 1 2013 This was the Tennalum facilityrsquos third consecutive year as a Circle of Excellence winner and the fourth time in its history The award is granted to Kaiser plant facilities that achieve outstanding results in safety customer satisfaction and financial performance key tenets of Kaiser Aluminumrsquos strategic initiatives to be a preferred supplier preferred employer and a preferred investment for the Companyrsquos shareholders The Tennalum facility currently has 182 full-time employees most of whom function in high-performing work teams Teamwork and communi-cation are cornerstones of the plantrsquos culture which has led to a very stable workforce with very low turnover The plant which produces aluminum screw machine stock used primarily in aerospace automotive ordnance and other applications began operations in Jackson in 1989 and has been very successful over the years Tennalum was the first recipient of the local Pinnacle Award in the Large Industry Category in 2008 Other external awards received over the years include the Shingo Prize for Excellence in Manufacturing Industry Weekrsquos Best Plant Award TOP (Top Operating Plant) Award Tennessee Quality Award Tennessee Quality Achievement Award and the TOSHA Commissionerrsquos Safety Award The plant is ISO9001 and AS9100 certified It is also compliant to the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System standard

Jackson has been recognized as a ldquoTop Ten Metro Areardquo in the US based on the population category of fewer than 200000 released by the Site Selection Magazine Jackson with a total of nine projects in 2012 was tied for 7th place along with Midland Texas Decatur Alabama Saginaw Michigan Victoria Texas Winchester Virginia and Winchester West Virginia The ranking is based upon the number of corporate real estate facility projects announced in Jacksonrsquos metropoli-tan statistical area (MSA) during 2012 ldquoWe can attribute this ranking to a strong year in all of our industriesrdquo said City of Jackson Mayor Jerry Gist ldquoThese industries chose to grow here and made large contributions to our community We appreciate their investment in our cityrdquo To be included in a project database a project must be $1 million or more in capital investment create at least 50 new jobs or add at least 20000 square feet of new space Projects must also be corporate in nature such as office industrial warehouse flex data center call center and more Projects that are not counted are retail space restaurants hospitals schools churches government facilities or other institutional space In 2012 Jackson added a bevy of new jobs as existing companies created 528 jobs ldquoJackson continues to improve thanks in part to our industriesrdquo said Roy Heath-erly Board Chairman for the Jackson Chamber ldquoBy creating 528 jobs our local industries invested a total of $84585422 to our community We are always excited about the additional jobs we can bring to Jacksonrdquo It was in March 2012 that Armstrong World Industries a global leader in the design and manufacturing of floors ceilings and cabinets announced the addition of a third production shift The shift addition created 95 jobs that were added to its Jackson facility Another large announcement came from LyondellBasell which expanded its polypropylene compounding facility by adding a sixth production line at the site LyondellBasellrsquos expansion helped meet the growing needs of its customer base while creating eight permanent jobs and 30 indirect jobs in the area ldquoWersquore working to create the best environment for creating jobs and expanding existing businesses in Jackson and Madison Countyrdquo said Madison County Mayor Jimmy Harris ldquoIn the past five years 602 jobs were created by new companies while 2477 jobs were created by existing companies With those jobs a total of $398665819 was invested into Jackson and Madison Countyrdquo

Jackson Elks Lodge 192 Places Leaf On Tree Of Life For Breast Cancer Awareness The West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation honored Jackson Elks Lodge 192 with a ldquoleaf installation ceremonyrdquo on the Tree of Life in March ldquoJackson Elks Lodge 192 was proud to place the 9th leaf on the Foundationrsquos Tree of Life this past Marchrdquo stated Kay Pruett chair of the 9th Annual Elks Club Breast Cancer Walk The Jackson Elks Lodge raised more than $11000 for the Breast Cancer Awareness Fund of the Foundation through pledges donations and sponsorships This fund helps to raise awareness for the early detection and treatment of breast cancer The Breast Cancer Awareness Fund was organized on September 2 1993 by breast cancer survivors in an effort to help others learn the early signs of breast cancer Through the previous nine years the Jackson Elks Lodge has raised a total of $44000 for the fund Upon installing the 9th leaf on the Tree of Life Kay Pruett thanked all volunteers and donors and stated ldquoour lodge has been inspired by Pauline Lorentz my mother who is a nine-year breast cancer survivorrdquo Tammy Hardee one of the coordinators of the Breast Cancer Awareness Fund stated ldquoOur community is a better place because of people like Kay and the many volunteers who put their heart and lives into helping others fight the dreaded disease of cancer All of these proceeds stay local and help us work with local individualsrdquo ldquoThe WTH Foundation has been long been a resource for the communityrdquo said Frank McMeen president of the Foundation ldquoSo many lives are blessed when the community comes together to help others like the Elks Lodge has donerdquo ldquoOur Foundation has been a community leader regarding the fight with cancerrdquo stated Robert Caldwell Foundation board chair ldquoWe will not give up on helping our own local people fight this dreaded diseaserdquo The West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation began in 1984 out of a need expressed by community leaders Since that time the Foundation has grown to meet more and more community needs through establishing funds The Breast Cancer Awareness Fund is one among several hundred that have a local focus Charitable donations to this fund as well as any other fund are fully tax-deductible The last decade has seen a remarkable growth in endow-ments helping the Foundation to surpass the $24 million mark in assets

Lori Nunnery Earns lsquoTravel Marketing Professionalrsquo Certification from Southeast Tourism Society Marketing College

Lori Nunnery Executive Director of the Jackson Madison County Tennessee Convention and Visitors Bureau has earned cer-tification as a ldquoTravel Marketing Professionalrdquo (TMP) after completing the three-year program of the Southeast Tourism Society (STS) Marketing College Nunnery was one of 47 new TMPs recognized in 2013 STS Marketing College started in 1992 and 749 people have earned TMP certification Nunnery completed additional coursework offered by the Southeast Festivals amp Events Association over the three year period to receive additional certification as a ldquoFestival and Events Plannerrdquo (FEP) The STS Marketing College is a professional development program that for one week each summer turns the facilities of North Georgia College and State University in Dahlonega Ga into a laboratory to teach tourism marketing Instructors are working professionals in the travel industry such as convention and visitors bureau executives public relations practitioners sales and marketing consultants and research experts Course topics include special events marketing media relations tourism advertising vacation research crisis management heritage tourism and communityrural tourism After the classroom work students also must complete a project that relates to their employment ldquoOur curriculum is practical What students learn can be put to use as soon as they get back to their work-placesrdquo Hardman said ldquoThere is not another program like ours in the country we are the envy of travel professionals in other regionsrdquo said Bill

West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation Announces New Record The West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation announces a new record of assetsSince its beginning in 1984 the West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation has worked to improve the health and quality of life to those living in Jackson and West Tennessee With very humble beginnings the Foundationrsquos first project was to provide a new type of technology called a ldquoLife Linerdquo unit where the elderly and those with limited mobility could alert authorities in case of an emergency From this first project the Foundation has grown to become a leader in charitable causes and support Today the Foundation provides chari-table support to nearly 400 ldquofundsrdquo that add to the quality of life of the Jackson and West Tennessee communities In 1987 board treasurer Lawson Crain announced that the Foundation had $5331500 in funds By March of 1997 the Foundationrsquos assets had grown to slightly more than $2 million Ten years later (2007) the assets had grown to $10 million By June of 2008 in the midst of the Re-cession the assets had grown to exceed $15 million By the end of January of 2013 the Foundation had exceeded $24 million in assets ldquoThis financial record places the WTH Foundation in a position to do more good in our communityrdquo stated Bobby Walden board member since 2007 ldquoIt delights me to see this wonderful organization prosper Our board has worked hard to manage our investments Our staff has worked diligently to bring in new gifts This is a wonderful day for Jackson and West Tennesseerdquo stated Robert Caldwell current board chair Today the West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation reaches nearly every aspect of our communities Endowments have grown to ensure the perpetual support of the arts education and special needs children as well as historic preservation ldquoEach year it is impressive to see the growth of the Foundation We are blessed to have an organization that compliments so many good segments of our community In Downtown Jackson we will be unveiling a memorial to one of our countryrsquos greatest men M D Anderson a Jackson native Thanks to the Foundation and its community leadership we will unveil the monument later this springrdquo stated Jerry Gist Mayor of Jackson

Kaiser Aluminum Awarded 2012 Circle of Excellence Award Kaiser Aluminumrsquos Tennalum facility has been awarded the Companyrsquos 2012 Circle of Excellence Award The award was presented to Mark Lane Tennalum General Manager by Jack Hockema President CEO and Chairman of Kaiser Aluminum Corporation at the annual awards dinner in Newport Beach California on Friday evening March 1 2013 This was the Tennalum facilityrsquos third consecutive year as a Circle of Excellence winner and the fourth time in its history The award is granted to Kaiser plant facilities that achieve outstanding results in safety customer satisfaction and financial performance key tenets of Kaiser Aluminumrsquos strategic initiatives to be a preferred supplier preferred employer and a preferred investment for the Companyrsquos shareholders The Tennalum facility currently has 182 full-time employees most of whom function in high-performing work teams Teamwork and communi-cation are cornerstones of the plantrsquos culture which has led to a very stable workforce with very low turnover The plant which produces aluminum screw machine stock used primarily in aerospace automotive ordnance and other applications began operations in Jackson in 1989 and has been very successful over the years Tennalum was the first recipient of the local Pinnacle Award in the Large Industry Category in 2008 Other external awards received over the years include the Shingo Prize for Excellence in Manufacturing Industry Weekrsquos Best Plant Award TOP (Top Operating Plant) Award Tennessee Quality Award Tennessee Quality Achievement Award and the TOSHA Commissionerrsquos Safety Award The plant is ISO9001 and AS9100 certified It is also compliant to the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System standard

Jackson Elks Lodge 192 Places Leaf On Tree Of Life For Breast Cancer Awareness The West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation honored Jackson Elks Lodge 192 with a ldquoleaf installation ceremonyrdquo on the Tree of Life in March ldquoJackson Elks Lodge 192 was proud to place the 9th leaf on the Foundationrsquos Tree of Life this past Marchrdquo stated Kay Pruett chair of the 9th Annual Elks Club Breast Cancer Walk The Jackson Elks Lodge raised more than $11000 for the Breast Cancer Awareness Fund of the Foundation through pledges donations and sponsorships This fund helps to raise awareness for the early detection and treatment of breast cancer The Breast Cancer Awareness Fund was organized on September 2 1993 by breast cancer survivors in an effort to help others learn the early signs of breast cancer Through the previous nine years the Jackson Elks Lodge has raised a total of $44000 for the fund Upon installing the 9th leaf on the Tree of Life Kay Pruett thanked all volunteers and donors and stated ldquoour lodge has been inspired by Pauline Lorentz my mother who is a nine-year breast cancer survivorrdquo Tammy Hardee one of the coordinators of the Breast Cancer Awareness Fund stated ldquoOur community is a better place because of people like Kay and the many volunteers who put their heart and lives into helping others fight the dreaded disease of cancer All of these proceeds stay local and help us work with local individualsrdquo ldquoThe WTH Foundation has been long been a resource for the communityrdquo said Frank McMeen president of the Foundation ldquoSo many lives are blessed when the community comes together to help others like the Elks Lodge has donerdquo ldquoOur Foundation has been a community leader regarding the fight with cancerrdquo stated Robert Caldwell Foundation board chair ldquoWe will not give up on helping our own local people fight this dreaded diseaserdquo The West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation began in 1984 out of a need expressed by community leaders Since that time the Foundation has grown to meet more and more community needs through establishing funds The Breast Cancer Awareness Fund is one among several hundred that have a local focus Charitable donations to this fund as well as any other fund are fully tax-deductible The last decade has seen a remarkable growth in endow-ments helping the Foundation to surpass the $24 million mark in assets

Lori Nunnery Earns lsquoTravel Marketing Professionalrsquo Certification from Southeast Tourism Society Marketing College

Lori Nunnery Executive Director of the Jackson Madison County Tennessee Convention and Visitors Bureau has earned cer-tification as a ldquoTravel Marketing Professionalrdquo (TMP) after completing the three-year program of the Southeast Tourism Society (STS) Marketing College Nunnery was one of 47 new TMPs recognized in 2013 STS Marketing College started in 1992 and 749 people have earned TMP certification Nunnery completed additional coursework offered by the Southeast Festivals amp Events Association over the three year period to receive additional certification as a ldquoFestival and Events Plannerrdquo (FEP) The STS Marketing College is a professional development program that for one week each summer turns the facilities of North Georgia College and State University in Dahlonega Ga into a laboratory to teach tourism marketing Instructors are working professionals in the travel industry such as convention and visitors bureau executives public relations practitioners sales and marketing consultants and research experts Course topics include special events marketing media relations tourism advertising vacation research crisis management heritage tourism and communityrural tourism After the classroom work students also must complete a project that relates to their employment ldquoOur curriculum is practical What students learn can be put to use as soon as they get back to their work-placesrdquo Hardman said ldquoThere is not another program like ours in the country we are the envy of travel professionals in other regionsrdquo said Bill

West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation Announces New Record The West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation announces a new record of assetsSince its beginning in 1984 the West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation has worked to improve the health and quality of life to those living in Jackson and West Tennessee With very humble beginnings the Foundationrsquos first project was to provide a new type of technology called a ldquoLife Linerdquo unit where the elderly and those with limited mobility could alert authorities in case of an emergency From this first project the Foundation has grown to become a leader in charitable causes and support Today the Foundation provides chari-table support to nearly 400 ldquofundsrdquo that add to the quality of life of the Jackson and West Tennessee communities In 1987 board treasurer Lawson Crain announced that the Foundation had $5331500 in funds By March of 1997 the Foundationrsquos assets had grown to slightly more than $2 million Ten years later (2007) the assets had grown to $10 million By June of 2008 in the midst of the Re-cession the assets had grown to exceed $15 million By the end of January of 2013 the Foundation had exceeded $24 million in assets ldquoThis financial record places the WTH Foundation in a position to do more good in our communityrdquo stated Bobby Walden board member since 2007 ldquoIt delights me to see this wonderful organization prosper Our board has worked hard to manage our investments Our staff has worked diligently to bring in new gifts This is a wonderful day for Jackson and West Tennesseerdquo stated Robert Caldwell current board chair Today the West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation reaches nearly every aspect of our communities Endowments have grown to ensure the perpetual support of the arts education and special needs children as well as historic preservation ldquoEach year it is impressive to see the growth of the Foundation We are blessed to have an organization that compliments so many good segments of our community In Downtown Jackson we will be unveiling a memorial to one of our countryrsquos greatest men M D Anderson a Jackson native Thanks to the Foundation and its community leadership we will unveil the monument later this springrdquo stated Jerry Gist Mayor of Jackson

Kaiser Aluminum Awarded 2012 Circle of Excellence Award Kaiser Aluminumrsquos Tennalum facility has been awarded the Companyrsquos 2012 Circle of Excellence Award The award was presented to Mark Lane Tennalum General Manager by Jack Hockema President CEO and Chairman of Kaiser Aluminum Corporation at the annual awards dinner in Newport Beach California on Friday evening March 1 2013 This was the Tennalum facilityrsquos third consecutive year as a Circle of Excellence winner and the fourth time in its history The award is granted to Kaiser plant facilities that achieve outstanding results in safety customer satisfaction and financial performance key tenets of Kaiser Aluminumrsquos strategic initiatives to be a preferred supplier preferred employer and a preferred investment for the Companyrsquos shareholders The Tennalum facility currently has 182 full-time employees most of whom function in high-performing work teams Teamwork and communi-cation are cornerstones of the plantrsquos culture which has led to a very stable workforce with very low turnover The plant which produces aluminum screw machine stock used primarily in aerospace automotive ordnance and other applications began operations in Jackson in 1989 and has been very successful over the years Tennalum was the first recipient of the local Pinnacle Award in the Large Industry Category in 2008 Other external awards received over the years include the Shingo Prize for Excellence in Manufacturing Industry Weekrsquos Best Plant Award TOP (Top Operating Plant) Award Tennessee Quality Award Tennessee Quality Achievement Award and the TOSHA Commissionerrsquos Safety Award The plant is ISO9001 and AS9100 certified It is also compliant to the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System standard

Jackson Elks Lodge 192 Places Leaf On Tree Of Life For Breast Cancer Awareness The West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation honored Jackson Elks Lodge 192 with a ldquoleaf installation ceremonyrdquo on the Tree of Life in March ldquoJackson Elks Lodge 192 was proud to place the 9th leaf on the Foundationrsquos Tree of Life this past Marchrdquo stated Kay Pruett chair of the 9th Annual Elks Club Breast Cancer Walk The Jackson Elks Lodge raised more than $11000 for the Breast Cancer Awareness Fund of the Foundation through pledges donations and sponsorships This fund helps to raise awareness for the early detection and treatment of breast cancer The Breast Cancer Awareness Fund was organized on September 2 1993 by breast cancer survivors in an effort to help others learn the early signs of breast cancer Through the previous nine years the Jackson Elks Lodge has raised a total of $44000 for the fund Upon installing the 9th leaf on the Tree of Life Kay Pruett thanked all volunteers and donors and stated ldquoour lodge has been inspired by Pauline Lorentz my mother who is a nine-year breast cancer survivorrdquo Tammy Hardee one of the coordinators of the Breast Cancer Awareness Fund stated ldquoOur community is a better place because of people like Kay and the many volunteers who put their heart and lives into helping others fight the dreaded disease of cancer All of these proceeds stay local and help us work with local individualsrdquo ldquoThe WTH Foundation has been long been a resource for the communityrdquo said Frank McMeen president of the Foundation ldquoSo many lives are blessed when the community comes together to help others like the Elks Lodge has donerdquo ldquoOur Foundation has been a community leader regarding the fight with cancerrdquo stated Robert Caldwell Foundation board chair ldquoWe will not give up on helping our own local people fight this dreaded diseaserdquo The West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation began in 1984 out of a need expressed by community leaders Since that time the Foundation has grown to meet more and more community needs through establishing funds The Breast Cancer Awareness Fund is one among several hundred that have a local focus Charitable donations to this fund as well as any other fund are fully tax-deductible The last decade has seen a remarkable growth in endow-ments helping the Foundation to surpass the $24 million mark in assets

Lori Nunnery Earns lsquoTravel Marketing Professionalrsquo Certification from Southeast Tourism Society Marketing College

Lori Nunnery Executive Director of the Jackson Madison County Tennessee Convention and Visitors Bureau has earned cer-tification as a ldquoTravel Marketing Professionalrdquo (TMP) after completing the three-year program of the Southeast Tourism Society (STS) Marketing College Nunnery was one of 47 new TMPs recognized in 2013 STS Marketing College started in 1992 and 749 people have earned TMP certification Nunnery completed additional coursework offered by the Southeast Festivals amp Events Association over the three year period to receive additional certification as a ldquoFestival and Events Plannerrdquo (FEP) The STS Marketing College is a professional development program that for one week each summer turns the facilities of North Georgia College and State University in Dahlonega Ga into a laboratory to teach tourism marketing Instructors are working professionals in the travel industry such as convention and visitors bureau executives public relations practitioners sales and marketing consultants and research experts Course topics include special events marketing media relations tourism advertising vacation research crisis management heritage tourism and communityrural tourism After the classroom work students also must complete a project that relates to their employment ldquoOur curriculum is practical What students learn can be put to use as soon as they get back to their work-placesrdquo Hardman said ldquoThere is not another program like ours in the country we are the envy of travel professionals in other regionsrdquo said Bill

Hardman president and chief executive officer of STS Tourism ranks as the first second or third-largest industry in the 12 STS states that stretch from Virginia to Louisiana

West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation Announces New Record The West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation announces a new record of assetsSince its beginning in 1984 the West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation has worked to improve the health and quality of life to those living in Jackson and West Tennessee With very humble beginnings the Foundationrsquos first project was to provide a new type of technology called a ldquoLife Linerdquo unit where the elderly and those with limited mobility could alert authorities in case of an emergency From this first project the Foundation has grown to become a leader in charitable causes and support Today the Foundation provides chari-table support to nearly 400 ldquofundsrdquo that add to the quality of life of the Jackson and West Tennessee communities In 1987 board treasurer Lawson Crain announced that the Foundation had $5331500 in funds By March of 1997 the Foundationrsquos assets had grown to slightly more than $2 million Ten years later (2007) the assets had grown to $10 million By June of 2008 in the midst of the Re-cession the assets had grown to exceed $15 million By the end of January of 2013 the Foundation had exceeded $24 million in assets ldquoThis financial record places the WTH Foundation in a position to do more good in our communityrdquo stated Bobby Walden board member since 2007 ldquoIt delights me to see this wonderful organization prosper Our board has worked hard to manage our investments Our staff has worked diligently to bring in new gifts This is a wonderful day for Jackson and West Tennesseerdquo stated Robert Caldwell current board chair Today the West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation reaches nearly every aspect of our communities Endowments have grown to ensure the perpetual support of the arts education and special needs children as well as historic preservation ldquoEach year it is impressive to see the growth of the Foundation We are blessed to have an organization that compliments so many good segments of our community In Downtown Jackson we will be unveiling a memorial to one of our countryrsquos greatest men M D Anderson a Jackson native Thanks to the Foundation and its community leadership we will unveil the monument later this springrdquo stated Jerry Gist Mayor of Jackson

Kaiser Aluminum Awarded 2012 Circle of Excellence Award Kaiser Aluminumrsquos Tennalum facility has been awarded the Companyrsquos 2012 Circle of Excellence Award The award was presented to Mark Lane Tennalum General Manager by Jack Hockema President CEO and Chairman of Kaiser Aluminum Corporation at the annual awards dinner in Newport Beach California on Friday evening March 1 2013 This was the Tennalum facilityrsquos third consecutive year as a Circle of Excellence winner and the fourth time in its history The award is granted to Kaiser plant facilities that achieve outstanding results in safety customer satisfaction and financial performance key tenets of Kaiser Aluminumrsquos strategic initiatives to be a preferred supplier preferred employer and a preferred investment for the Companyrsquos shareholders The Tennalum facility currently has 182 full-time employees most of whom function in high-performing work teams Teamwork and communi-cation are cornerstones of the plantrsquos culture which has led to a very stable workforce with very low turnover The plant which produces aluminum screw machine stock used primarily in aerospace automotive ordnance and other applications began operations in Jackson in 1989 and has been very successful over the years Tennalum was the first recipient of the local Pinnacle Award in the Large Industry Category in 2008 Other external awards received over the years include the Shingo Prize for Excellence in Manufacturing Industry Weekrsquos Best Plant Award TOP (Top Operating Plant) Award Tennessee Quality Award Tennessee Quality Achievement Award and the TOSHA Commissionerrsquos Safety Award The plant is ISO9001 and AS9100 certified It is also compliant to the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System standard

West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation Announces New Record The West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation announces a new record of assetsSince its beginning in 1984 the West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation has worked to improve the health and quality of life to those living in Jackson and West Tennessee With very humble beginnings the Foundationrsquos first project was to provide a new type of technology called a ldquoLife Linerdquo unit where the elderly and those with limited mobility could alert authorities in case of an emergency From this first project the Foundation has grown to become a leader in charitable causes and support Today the Foundation provides chari-table support to nearly 400 ldquofundsrdquo that add to the quality of life of the Jackson and West Tennessee communities In 1987 board treasurer Lawson Crain announced that the Foundation had $5331500 in funds By March of 1997 the Foundationrsquos assets had grown to slightly more than $2 million Ten years later (2007) the assets had grown to $10 million By June of 2008 in the midst of the Re-cession the assets had grown to exceed $15 million By the end of January of 2013 the Foundation had exceeded $24 million in assets ldquoThis financial record places the WTH Foundation in a position to do more good in our communityrdquo stated Bobby Walden board member since 2007 ldquoIt delights me to see this wonderful organization prosper Our board has worked hard to manage our investments Our staff has worked diligently to bring in new gifts This is a wonderful day for Jackson and West Tennesseerdquo stated Robert Caldwell current board chair Today the West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation reaches nearly every aspect of our communities Endowments have grown to ensure the perpetual support of the arts education and special needs children as well as historic preservation ldquoEach year it is impressive to see the growth of the Foundation We are blessed to have an organization that compliments so many good segments of our community In Downtown Jackson we will be unveiling a memorial to one of our countryrsquos greatest men M D Anderson a Jackson native Thanks to the Foundation and its community leadership we will unveil the monument later this springrdquo stated Jerry Gist Mayor of Jackson

Kaiser Aluminum Awarded 2012 Circle of Excellence Award Kaiser Aluminumrsquos Tennalum facility has been awarded the Companyrsquos 2012 Circle of Excellence Award The award was presented to Mark Lane Tennalum General Manager by Jack Hockema President CEO and Chairman of Kaiser Aluminum Corporation at the annual awards dinner in Newport Beach California on Friday evening March 1 2013 This was the Tennalum facilityrsquos third consecutive year as a Circle of Excellence winner and the fourth time in its history The award is granted to Kaiser plant facilities that achieve outstanding results in safety customer satisfaction and financial performance key tenets of Kaiser Aluminumrsquos strategic initiatives to be a preferred supplier preferred employer and a preferred investment for the Companyrsquos shareholders The Tennalum facility currently has 182 full-time employees most of whom function in high-performing work teams Teamwork and communi-cation are cornerstones of the plantrsquos culture which has led to a very stable workforce with very low turnover The plant which produces aluminum screw machine stock used primarily in aerospace automotive ordnance and other applications began operations in Jackson in 1989 and has been very successful over the years Tennalum was the first recipient of the local Pinnacle Award in the Large Industry Category in 2008 Other external awards received over the years include the Shingo Prize for Excellence in Manufacturing Industry Weekrsquos Best Plant Award TOP (Top Operating Plant) Award Tennessee Quality Award Tennessee Quality Achievement Award and the TOSHA Commissionerrsquos Safety Award The plant is ISO9001 and AS9100 certified It is also compliant to the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System standard

CHAMBER NEWSJackson Chamber Hires Russell Cook as Manager of Accounting

Chamber Connection Whatrsquos new with your organization JMCG-SDC STOP-BANG (snoring tiredness during daytime observed apnea high blood pressure body mass index age neck circumference gen-der) Screening Toolmdashthe screening tool is used preoperatively to identify patients at risk for Obstructive Sleep Apnea Identifying patients at risk for Obstructive Sleep Apnea is an important first step in preventing postoperative complications such as increased intensive care admissions and greater duration of hospital stay

Chamber Connection Whatrsquos helped your organization become successful in our community JMCG-SDC The Sleep Disorders Center at Jackson Madison County General Hospital is accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine the national accrediting body for Sleep Disorders Centers and Labs To receive a five year accreditation a sleep center must meet or exceed all stan-dards for professional quality healthcare as designated by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine The AASM is a professional membership orga-nization dedicated to assuring quality care for patients with sleep disorders promoting the advancement of sleep research and providing public and professional education Our staff includes Board Registered Polysomnographic Technologists and Certified and Registered Respiratory Thera-pist Our attending and consulting medical staff includes Board Certified Sleep Medicine Physicians Neurologists Pulmonologists Otolaryngologist and Clinical Psychologists

Chamber Connection What does your organization do that most people donrsquot know about JMCG-SDC The Sleep Disorders Center at Jackson Madison County General Hospital is a full service center that evaluates and treats adult and geriatric patients with sleep disorders including but not limited to Snoring Excessive Daytime Somnolence Insomnia Obstructive Sleep Apnea Narcolepsy and Sleep Related Limb Movement Disorders Our facility is an eight bed center in a tranquil relaxed outpatient setting We also have the capacity for Home Sleep Testing in our Sleep Disorders Center when our Sleep Physicians feel Home Sleep Testing is indicated

Chamber Connection What are some recent successes your organization has experienced JMCG-SDC We are helping to raise awareness of sleep disorders by participating in community and industry health and wellness fairs We are also helping to raise awareness of the connection between sleep sleep disorders and heart disease by participating in these events Chamber Connection Do you have any community projects you are involved in JMCG-SDC SleepawaremdashOften people think that snoring or trouble sleeping is an annoyance and it is but it can be a warning sign that there is a more serious health problem Sleepaware is an on-line Internet based risk assessment tool designed to help people identify if they are at risk for Obstructive Sleep Apnea Anyone can log on to the website wwwmyhealthriskorg and click on the Sleepaware button to take the free brief on-line assessment It only takes about seven minutes to complete the assessment The person taking the assessment will be asked to answer a series of questions about their health lifestyle and family history At the end they will receive a personalized report If found to be a risk they will be will contacted by a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist to discuss the risk factors and a free Chamber Connection What are some of the future goals of your organization JMCG-SDC We are evaluating the possibility of expanding outside of Madison County
