IntramuralsWho can participate?Full-time and part-time students with a valid Brock I.D. card and members of the Walker Complex (faculty, staff, alumni and community) can participate.

How to enter (two ways)As a team1. Pick up a team entry form at the

Welcome Desk.2. Fill out the team entry form

completely. Players can be added at a later date.

3. Register your team on the dates indicated for that sport.

4. If a league fills, your team entry form will be held, you will be placed on a waiting list and no fee is required at that time. If a spot becomes available, you will be notified and given 24 hours to pay the fee at the Welcome Desk.

5. After registering at the Welcome Desk, register your team on our online scheduling system at

IMLeagues.com/brocku6. All teams (even waitlisted

teams) are required to have a representative attend the captain’s meeting. Failure to attend the captain’s meeting will result in the loss of 1/2 of your performance bond.

7. Following the captain’s meeting, check the web page at brocku.ca/recreation-services/intramurals or the bulletin board located outside the Intramural office (WC215) for your scheduled games.

As a free agent (individual)Sign up at the Welcome Desk and pay the individual registration fee. We will do our best to place you on a team or form a new team. You must sign up before the registration deadline for your league. After registering at the Welcome Desk, make an account with IMLeagues at IMLeagues.com/brocku and join the individual team. Following the captains’ meeting, you will be contacted by the convenor.

ID at intramural gamesYou must show your current Brock I.D. card or Brock membership card with photo I.D. to the official at each intramural game you play. Remember, no I.D., no play!

Entry feeYour team’s entry fee helps to offset some of the costs to administer the league. These costs include equipment purchase and replacement, facility costs (in some cases), officials, convenors, and promotional costs. We must charge teams a minimal amount to assist with these costs. All teams entering a league must pay a non-refundable entry fee plus a refundable bond fee. Ice hockey and broomball fees are higher due to the cost of ice rental.

Note:1. All fees must be paid when registering.2. All fees are non-refundable unless the

league does not run.3. If you do not make an account with

IMLeagues you will not be able to view the schedule.

What happens with the bond?If your team is represented at the Captains’ meeting and plays in every competition, a credit for the bond amount will be issued to your team captain, or the person who paid the bond (see Bond refunds).

• If your captain or a representative of your team is not present at the captains’ meeting, your team will lose one-half of the bond.

• If your team defaults one game, you will lose one-half of the bond.

• If your team defaults a second game, you will lose the full bond, and will be removed from the league.

What is it?Sport can teach a lot about life, such as setting goals, teamwork and co-operation, but these positive values can only be learned when the sport is enjoyable and played fairly. The foundation of the intramural league will be based on the fair play principles of integrity, fairness and respect.

Specifically, these principles are:• Respect the rules.• Respect the officials and their

decisions.• Respect your opponent.• Maintain your self-control at all

times.

Regular seasonTeams must have an average Spirit of Competition rating of +1 or better at the end of the regular season or they will be removed from the league and will not continue to the playoff season.

Teams that accumulate enough negative totals during regular season, that eliminate them from the possibility of playoff season, will be removed from the league immediately. The remainder of their games will be forfeited.

Spirit of Competition

Performance bondEach team participating in an intramural league must pay a performance bond.

WHY? Defaults cause frustrations for everyone involved, especially for the team who misses their scheduled games because the opposition failed to field enough players. The officials and the convenor must be paid, even though no game is played. As well, space is wasted that could have been used for another game.

Bond refundsBond refunds will be credited to your team captain’s student account, through the Finance Office (or to the person listed on your team sign-up sheet who paid the bond). Captains will be notified when the bonds have been credited to their account. Should the funds be required to reimburse your teammates, please request this through the Finance Office (Schmon Tower 12th floor) or online at brocku.ca/finance/students/request-a-refund

Behaviour bondSome sports require a behaviour bond. The purpose of this bond is to prevent unacceptable behaviour during the intramural sports season. If your team competes fairly with respect for your opponents, officials and staff, the bond will be returned to your team in full. If your team, a member of your team, coach/manager, or spectators with your team, display unacceptable behaviour, your team will lose part or all of the behaviour bond. Decisions regarding the bond and the team’s status in the league will be handled by the Intramural Coordinator on a case-by-case basis.

Who is involved?Every participant, official and convenor will have an active part in upholding these principles. A team’s fair play will be measured through a rating structure of +2, +1, 0, -1, and -2, called Spirit of Competition ratings (S.O.C.). These scores are an indication of how well a team has upheld the principles of fair play in a game.

Who awards points?During the regular season, captains rate their opponents. Referees and convenors rate both teams. At the beginning of each game, team ratings start at “0” and stay at “0” on average, go up for positive and down for negative fair play behaviour. All scores will be added up throughout the regular season and this will give a team its final S.O.C. rating. In the playoff season, only referees and convenors will rate teams.

FAIR PLAY is for everyone

Failure to abide by our CODE OF FAIR PLAY will result in a review of the

incident and possibly the removal of individuals and privileges.

Brophy CupIn early November 2010, a group of Brock alumni founded the Brophy Cup in memory of Conor Brophy, a former Brock student who enjoyed playing intramural Slowpitch and left his fellow teammates with many great memories of their time together. Tragically, Brophy passed away in March 2010.

The Brophy Cup will be awarded to the intramural Slowpitch B championship team annually. Congratulations to The Baseball Team, 2012 Brophy Cup winners!
