National Farmers Market Week is August 2nd - 8th; get out and visit Belleville Main Street’s Old Town Market which is held every Saturday, 7 a.m. - 12 p.m. at the corner of 1st Street

and West Main Street. The Old Town Market has an average of 25 vendors every week providing the community with fresh produce, plants, homemade goods and information.

National Farmers Market Week is held to shine light on farmers markets across the nation as they provide a positive influence on the

communities they serve. Farmers markets, including Belleville’s Old Town Market, are active agents in preserving America’s rural livelihood

and framland, stimulating local economies, increasing community access to fresh, nutritious food, supporting healthy communities and

promoting sustainability.

The Old Town Market is a great place to meet fellow community members and learn something new. Take advantage of all your community has to offer. Accept the challenge to visit the Old Town Market at least one Saturday morning, 7 a.m. - 12 p.m., before

Chamber Gears Up for New Look

Sneak peak of the Chamber’s new website coming soon!

Throughout the month of August, expect to see a new look emerge for The Chamber. Do not fear, The Greater Belleville Chamber of Commerce will still be the chamber you know and love. This change will be in the form of a new logo, website, Email Update and other print items as we move forward to carry out our mission, “Advancing Business. Supporting Community.”

The new logo will bring a fresh up-to-date look to The Chamber and propel us towards the future. It will still feature the iconic Belleville fountain and will be printed in shades of blue and grey. Other shades of blue, signifying the loyalty, wisdom, confidence and intelligence, will start to replace the green often associated with The Chamber.

The website will bring a new web presence for the Chamber, a major factor in communicating with our current and potential chamber members, community members, business owners and visitors. Expect a more welcoming, easy to navigate website complete with bright colors and a plethora of information. Examples of pages include What to Do, Where to Dine, Where to Stay, Membership Benefits, Community Calendar, Chamber Committees, Membership Directory and a blog. The blog will be used to communicate membership tips, recaps of Chamber events and what is happening in the community. Chamber members will also find an easy button at the top of the page which allows access our member zone where one can update information, post business news releases, register for events and stay up to date with fellow Chamber members. The website will also provide our members with new opportunities to be seen and heard with an array of affordable advertising options.

Keeping with the updated look, a new Email Update template will be introduced. The colors and layout will reflect those of the new website, creating a uniformed Chamber appearance. The Apartment Community of Our Lady of the Snows kicked off a holiday weekend, welcoming Chamber members to their Red, White and Bloomin’ Business After Hours on Thursday, July 2nd. Chamber members took advantage of this time to mingle with fellow members munching on tasty treats from the Shrine Restaurant and having the option to drink some beer from the soon to come Hofbräuhaus. Members who opted to put their business card in the attendance prize drawing had the chance to win gift cards to the Shrine Restaurant and fresh produce from The Apartment Community Garden.

The Apartment Community Garden, started 3 years ago, is a completely resident-driven project. Residents attend a garden planning meeting in the spring to decide what to plant and take a trip to a local nursery to pick up plants and supplies for planting in each box. Residents take care of the planting, turning the hoses on for watering and “harvest” when the produce arrives. The produce from the garden is given to residents and, if there is anything left it’s given to Executive Chef Todd Schrage to use in the kitchen. The Apartment Community of Our Lady of the Snows offers a variety of housing opportunities for seniors, with a mission to respond to the challenges of aging by promoting a Christian community of caring men and women seeking outward expression of God’s love that dwells within us. Housing options include but are not limited to independent living, skilled nursing and assisted senior living. St. Paul’s Senior Community celebrated the completion of their new $29 million residence building with a ribbon cutting. The Greater Belleville Chamber of

Commerce was there to celebrate this achievement on Thursday, July 16th. Following the ribbon cutting, St. Paul’s held a open house where the community

was invited to learn more about St. Paul’s Senior Community and tour the new facility. The new building has six wings called households with similar designs to

ease transition for individuals moving from one area to the other. The levels provide different types of care including skilled care, assisted/shelter care, rehabilitation

Belleville City Police Station340 West Lincoln, Suite 580 Belleville, IL 62220 The Greater Belleville Chamber of Commercejoined local dignitaries and officials from Belleville and Impact Strategies to celebrate the start of construction for the city’s new policeheadquarters at a ground breaking ceremony held at the site. The new police headquarters will be located at 720 W. Main St., formerly the Bank of Belleville building.

Upon completion in Spring 2016, the new police facility will have a foren-sics lab, dispatch center, sally port and a 60-person community class-room. Plans also include a secured evidence storage area and dedicated storm areas that allow for increased safety for employees and prisoners. Impact Strategies will also construct a new, freestanding parking garage adjacent to the police headquarters. The garage is designed to hold 46 police cruisers and will have a mechanics area for city vehicles.

LINDENWOOD BELLEVILLE MARKS A NEW CHAPTER IN 2015-2016

The 2015-2016 academic year at Lindenwood University-Belleville marks the next chapter at a school that has become a key fixture in the Belleville community. With new presidents at both the St. Charles and Belleville campuses this year, Lindenwood continues its mission of

providing values-centered programs while adding a fresh vision to the future of the university.

NEW DEGREES AND FACULTYBeginning this fall, Lindenwood Belleville will introduce the Bachelor of Arts in history to its list of degree offerings, bringing the campus’ total number of degree programs up to 38. In addition, seven new full-time faculty members will join the campus in fields such as chemistry, biology, English, criminal justice, communications, and management. With these additions, Lindenwood Belleville’s percentage of full-time faculty with the highest degree in their discipline now stands at an impressive 95.9 percent. The campus employs approximately 50 full-time professors and more than 180 part-time. Over the summer, Lindenwood’s accelerated evening program, known as LCIE (Lindenwood College for Individualized Education), was renamed the School of Accelerated Degree Programs. The name change corresponds with the 40th anniversary of the program’s launch and better represents what the university currently offers its working adult student population. The program provides students an accessible, condensed educational format based on a quarterly delivery schedule that enables them to attend class one evening a week and obtain their degree in as little as 18 months.

PRESIDENTIAL CHANGES AT LINDENWOOD UNIVERSITY-BELLEVILLEThis past January, Lindenwood Belleville Campus President Jerry Bladdick announced he

would be stepping down from his position in December 2015. However, he recently announced departure would be sooner than expected due to his acceptance of a new position at Ringling

College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Fla. Therefore, Dr. Brett Barger has been appointed as Interim Belleville Campus President beginning August 1, 2015. Barger has an extensive

background in university administration, most recently serving as associate vice president for operations and finance at Lindenwood’s St. Charles campus. He has been a member of the

Lindenwood community for years, first arriving as a student in 1990 and joining the university as an employee in 1994. Barger has previously served as the dean of evening and graduate

admissions and extension campuses for Lindenwood and has earned his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degrees from the university.

“I am excited to be part of the Belleville campus and the surrounding community,” said Barger. “We’re focused on building a great future and determining what we will look like in 2023 when Lindenwood Belleville

celebrates its 20th anniversary.”

Barger acknowledged the rapid success of the Belleville campus in its 12 years of existence has been due to the faculty, staff, Board of Directors, and community support that the campus has experienced. Lindenwood Belleville has grown from an extension center offering only a handful of

evening classes to a bustling full-service campus with an undergraduate and graduate student population that has grown from 900 in 2009 to

approximately 2,450 with more than 1,000 students living on campus.

THREE HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS SELECTED FOR MATHIS, MARIFIAN & RICHTER LAW SCHOLARSHIP AWARD The law firm Mathis, Marifian & Richter, Ltd. (MM&R), awarded the recipients of the firm’s 2015 Law Scholarship Award. Belleville West senior, Carissa Bell, Alton High School senior, Sarah Hasse, and Edwardsville High School senior, Brooke Lunn, each received $1,000 scholarships from MM&R. All three students are planning to pursue legal careers and applied for the scholarships through a nomination process open to all high school seniors in St. Clair, Madison and Washington Counties.

The law scholarship recipients are chosen based on a number of qualifications. Applicants had to be a current high school senior, planning a career as an attorney, with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, achieve an ACT score of at least 26 or SAT of at least 1180, rank in the upper 25th percentile of the graduating class and be involved in extracurricular activities. The selection process involved a comprehensive review of all applicants by MM&R attorneys who weighed other factors such as essay, high school achievements and teacher/school recommendations.

Race Date/Time: Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 9 a.m.; Course Briefing at 8:45 a.m.

Location: Historic Downtown Belleville. Start will be at East Main & Church St.

Awards: Trophy to overall 1st place finisher, male and female. Medals to the Top 3 finishers male and female in each race: 13 & under, 14-18, 19-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65+. Each child participating in the Pepper Dash will receive a medal.

Registration Fee: Adults $20, Youth $15 (16 & under). Late Registration Fee: $25 after September 16, 2015; $30 day of race. Kids Pepper Dash $5 (13 &under)

T-Shirts: "Chili Chase" T-shirts and sizes are guaranteed for 5K registration ONLY and registration must be postmarked by September 16, 2015. Timing System: Bib Chip Timing by Final Lap

At auditions, contestants will be asked to sing a cappella for the judges. Individual contestants

only - no duets or teams. The song is of the contestant’s choice and can be from any

musical genre. Contestants will be judged on the following basis: Vocal Ability (40 pts), Timing (30 pts), Stage Presence (10 pts), Mastery of Lyrics
