The firm of Allison Knapp & Siekmann has joined forces with Scheffel Boyle. This combination will increase Scheffel Boyle’s geographical footprint in Southern Illinois and the St. Louis metropolitan area.In business since 1950, Allison Knapp & Siekmann (AKS) shares the same dedication to high quality client service that Scheffel Boyle has prided itself on for nearly a century. Now that AKS has joined forces with Scheffel Boyle, the full-service accounting, auditing, tax, business, and financial consulting firm has now expanded its footprint in the St. Louis metropolitan area to 10 offices and approximately 100 employees, while adding a greater depth of resources and expertise for their clients. “Bringing our two firms together is a great step not only for us, but for all our clients. We are constantly growing as a firm, bringing a new level of knowledge and expertise to the work we do. I feel AKS shares our dedication to an exceptional standard of service that we hold dear at Scheffel Boyle,” said Dennis Ulrich, Managing Principal of Scheffel Boyle. “I’m confident that this combination will bring positive changes for both firms and our combined family of clients.”AKS Managing Principal Henry Siekmann, CPA also believes this news is a step forward for both firms.

“All of my team at AKS is extremely excited to be joining forces with such a reputable firm as Scheffel Boyle. BELLEVILLE ROTARY CLUB BEAUTIFIES ENTRANCE OF BICENTENNIAL PARKOn a damp and chilly October Saturday morning, members of the Belleville Rotary Club and volunteers from Belleville West High School met to plant shrubs and flowers to beautify the two entrances to Bicentennial Park. A grant from Rotary District 6510 and matching funds from the Belleville Rotary Club funded the landscaping of the entrance signs at the park. The Rotary Club worked with Jason Poole from the Parks District and Rick Effinger at Effingers Garden Center to plan the project. Barbara Cempura from the Rotary Club submitted the grant request for the $2,000 project. In addition to this project, the Belleville Rotary Club provided a $5,000 contribution to the Interfaith Community Food Pantry as part of their “Service Above Self” mission.

HOERNIS AUTO BODY CELEBRATES 50TH ANNIVERSARY, LAUNCHES NEW WEBSITE & CONSUMER EDUCATION CAMPAIGN This year marks the 50th anniversary for Hoernis Auto Body, a family-owned business now in its second generation of providing outstanding collision repair services to customers throughout the region.

In 1964, Belleville, Ill. native Jim Hoernis founded Hoernis Auto Body. After all these years, Hoernis’ philosophy of high quality repairs, fair treatment to employees and vendors, and exceptional customer service is still in place today. The business has grown into one of the largest and most respected collision repair centers in Southern Illinois.

Today, the company continues its focus on using the latest in collision repair technology and has also launched a public education campaign aimed at informing customers about their rights as consumers of collision repair services. As part of the campaign, Hoernis Auto Body has launched a new website where consumers can learn more about the collision repair industry, their rights in choosing who repairs their car and what they should expect from a quality repair shop.

According to Steve Hoernis of Hoernis Auto Body, “We just want our customers and the rest of the general public to understand that regardless of which auto body shops their insurance company recommends, they ultimately have the right to choose who repairs their vehicle. We also want them to understand the value of choosing a shop that invests in people, technology and continual training so they can rest assure that they are getting the best service possible.”

Hoernis Auto Body is located at 207 S. 20th Street in Belleville. To learn more about your rights as a consumer of collision repair services and about Hoernis Auto Body, please visit http://www.hoernisautobody.com, find them on Facebook or call (618) 234-6538.

100 MILLION MEMBERSHIPS REACHED AT CREDIT UNIONS NATIONWIDE 2.85 MILLION JOINED THIS SUMMER; FASTEST GROWTH SINCE 2000Credit unions have reached and surpassed 100 million members nationwide – equating to one in every three Americans, according to Adam Koishor, Chief Marketing Officer at Scott Credit Union.

The 100 million memberships count is based on data collected from credit unions and compiled by Credit Union National Association (CUNA) in its “Monthly Credit Union Estimates.” CUNA estimates that credit union memberships expanded by 2.9% in the past 12 months, and the 100 million mark was eclipsed this summer. This represents a continuation (and acceleration) of trends previously reported: In 2013, memberships expanded by 2.5% and in 2012 memberships grew 2.1%. Membership growth is expected to continue in the second half of 2014 and exceed the full-year growth of the previous year.

Credit unions added a total of 2.85 million additional memberships over the past year - the largest reported increase in more than a quarter century. And, in percentage terms, the 2.5% increase was the fastest since 2000, according to the CUNA analysis.

Scott Credit Union’s membership has grown to nearly 124,000 members strong.

“Clearly, there is growing recognition for credit unions among consumers,” Koishor said. “They increasingly understand that a credit union places their interests above all else, particularly in returning financial benefits to consumer members in the forms of lower rates on loans, higher returns on savings, and lower and fewer fees.”

“It’s the structure of credit unions – as not-for-profit, democratically led and cooperatively owned financial institutions– that allows credit unions to maintain this focus on returning financial benefits to members,” ICUL leader Hession said. “In fact, by doing so, credit unions have earned the satisfaction and trust of their existing members – and are attracting even more.”

For details on opening accounts at Scott Credit Union, visit www.scu.org, call 1-800-888-4728, or stop by any of the credit union’s branches.

Chamber Member UpdateSWIC NAMED TOP MILITARY FRIENDLY SCHOOLSouthwestern Illinois College has been named a 2015 Military Friendly School® by Victory Media, the leading media group for military personnel transitioning into civilian life. SWIC has been placed in the top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to serve America’s military service members, veterans and dependents as students and to ensure their success on campus. “We are proud to serve the largest student veteran population of any public institution in Illinois,” said President Georgia Costello, Ph.D. “Supporting veterans and military families is one of our top priorities. Not only do we assist veterans and their dependents with obtaining federal and state education benefits, we offer additional support for long-term success.”Among many outstanding attributes, SWIC was recognized for its:• New Veterans & Career Services center – located on the Belleville Campus, this new student center allows the college to better serve our students by featuring one-on-one personalized assistance to process benefit requests and identify additional support needs, a student lounge, and career services that help veterans transition from the military to the civilian job market; • VetSuccess on Campus counselor – SWIC is one of just 94 schools nationwide to host a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs counselor on campus full time;

• Veteran New Student Orientation program - assists veterans in their transition to the student community by providing an overview of college programs, services and activities, introducing them to all the college staff that assist with veteran services, integrating them with the general student veteran population through workshop sessions, and fostering camaraderie and relationship-building through small group dynamics;

• Annual Veteran Job Fair - attracts more than 100 employers and assists student veterans and veteran alumni in securing employment and advancement opportunities. Now in its sixth year, the 2015 list of Military Friendly Schools® was compiled through a data-driven survey of more than 10,000 schools nationwide approved for VA tuition funding. The survey results that comprise the 2015 list were independently tested by Ernst & Young LLP based upon the weightings and methodology established by Victory Media. Each year, schools taking the survey are held to a higher standard than the previous year via improved methodology, criteria and weightings developed with the assistance of an Academic Advisory Board consisting of educators from schools across the country. For more information about veterans services offered at Southwestern Illinois College, call 618-235-2700, ext. 5226, or visit swic.edu/veterans.
