    1. The teacher will review with the class the cardinal directions. The teacher willalso talk about a key which is located on a map. Today we will be learningabout a key or a legend. The key is something that helps us understandwhat symbols on the map mean. The key is located on the right side of themap. The key includes the symbol and the words that are what they symbolstands for. There is a map in front of you. This map includes a key. I want youto use the key and locate all of the dogs and tell me what direction they arefrom the pink house on Applesauce Avenue.

    2. Allow the students to have time to write down all the answers for this. The

teacher can then have the students locate other symbols that are shown in thekey.

    3. CLOSURE: The class will talk about their answers and review what a key is.

    F. Assessment:

What will you use to measure student understanding?

The students are going to write down their answers and the teacher will be ableto see if the students understand the content.

Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the

    lesson.

If the students can successfully find and understand the symbol used in the key, they will be able to successfully answer the questions.

    G. Reflection:

    1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you toteach?

I think the easiest part to teach would be talking about what a key is.

    2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach?

I think the most challenging part to teach would be for students to

understand how to read the map. They may not understand when the

teacher says to use the pink house on Applesauce Avenue as the point to

    start on.

    3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson?

In the next lesson students will create their own key.

    4. What will you do for students who dont grasp the concepts?

The teacher can spend one on one time with students who do not grasp the

    concepts.

    5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change?

I think the map might need to be changed. We chose it because it was very

simple, easy to read, and it had a simple key, which is great for new

    learners.

    6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult

    part?

The most difficult part was trying to figure out which symbol you wanted the

students to find. This lesson can be adapted to find any of the symbols on

    the map.
