    A. Summary of the Lesson Plan:The students will discuss why jobs are important. They will read a book about the different

    jobs that some people do and write about a job they think they might like to do when

    they grow up.

    B. Target Population: Grade Level: 2nd Skill Level: All levels Grouping:

    o Whole group - discuss and graphic organizero Individual group - writing about jobs

    C. Materials:BookWhen Im Big illustrations by Nila Aye; text by Tim Drury.White board and markersPicture/Writing paperPencils and crayons

    E9.2.4 Discuss why people work.o Student-Friendly Standards

    I know why people work.E. Procedure:

    1. Opening question:Why do people need to work?

    2. Make a bubble chart organizer on the board with the word Work at the center.3. Draw 4 long lines out from each corner to write subtopics about the main topic of

    work.

    4. Ask the students what are some reasons why people have to work?5. Write the 4 main reasons on the lines: For example

    o To be able to buy things we need or want.o To learn new things.o Because we like to work.

    14.Have a few students share their picture and read about what job they would like to dowhen they grow up.

    15.CLOSURE: Today we learned about why people work and what job we would like to dowhen we grow up.

    F. Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding?

    The students will understand why people work.

    Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson.I will know that the students understand this concept through the class discussion and

    the students picture and sentences on what job they would like to do when they grow

    up.

    G. Reflection:1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach?

    I think that reading the story to the students will be the easiest part to this lesson.

    2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach?I think the bubble organizer will be the most challenging part of this lesson to teach

    the students. They will not have to make a bubble organizer themselves but they

    may not be familiar with them.

    3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson?I will follow up this lesson by teaching about consumers and producers and the

    many different businesses in our community.

    4. What will you do for students who dont grasp the concepts?I will spend extra time with those students.

    5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change?I may need to provide the four reasons why people work instead of having the class

    come up with them. I can try and guide them with their thinking by asking

    questions.

    6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part?The most difficult part of the lesson was trying to find a way to assess the students.
