Parcipants are encouraged to wear their favourite team's colours to school and bring a gold coin donaon to raise much needed funds for kids with cancer. STAGE 1 EXCURSION The Year 1 & 2 Western Sydney Parklands excursion was postponed last Friday due to the weather condi- ons. This excursion will be rescheduled for another day. More informaon soon. They will step into a planetarium and learn about the paerns of the sun, moon and planets through the sky. Students will hear about Aboriginal Star stories and watch a 360 degree surround movie about Earth and Space. DATE: Monday 21st October WHERE: School hall TIME: 9.00am—2.55pm COST: $9.00 DRESS: Full school uniform Financial Assistance may be available to families in need upon applicaon at the school office. This will also help us determine the number of non-local enrolments we can accept. Please pass on this informaon to friends, family and neighbours who may have a child that is ready to start school. Last year, we held our first ever art exhibion in term four. This year we are holding it earlier to avoid the rush at the end of the year. The official opening of the exhibion will be on Tuesday 24th September from 4pm unl 6pm. It will also be open for families to view each morning from 25-27 September. Classes will view the art works during the day. Dont miss the chance to see your childs work on display. This week, a team of researchers will be in our school conducng lesson observaons and interviews of staff in a few of our classrooms. The researchers are doing this to idenfy and document significant paerns and examples of English as an Addional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) effec- ve pracce in schools. Our school was selected for this pro- ject because of its idenfied strengths in EAL/D educaon. We are very fortunate to have a talented, hardworking EAL/D teaching staff of Mrs Sco-Glassock, Mrs Cruz and Mrs Harris. Their role in supporng the English language develop- ment of our students is vital to our studentslearning. This Thursday our Aboriginal students will be aending a combined NAIDOC Day Celebraon event at Ashcroſt PS where they will have the opportunity to learn from elders and share in some fun acvies with other Aboriginal students of the Liverpool area. Please take some me to complete this as the feedback helps us make decisions about areas in which we need to make improvements. Finally for this week, we have recently had some key staff (including myself) trained to help move the school towards being a White Ribbon School. White Ribbon is an organisa- on against violence towards women. We be- lieve that if we raise our students to focus on being respecul towards each other at all mes and solve issues peacefully, we will go a long way to making a beer society. Whilst we believe we have always done this really well at GVPS, we have decided to support White Ribbon throughout the year to enhance our message. Stage 3 were lucky to have a webinar and meet the amazing author Oliver Phommavanh! He read 3 of our very own students’ books. Olivia, Amy and Ibrahim were very excited!

VISITING AUTHOR

We had author Susanne Gervay attend our book parade last week. She read two amazing books that Stage 3 students Zoe and Huzaifa created!

The Commonwealth Bank will visit G.V.P.S. for a free Introduc-tion to Financial Literacy session for all our K-2 students.

STAGE 3 OZHARVEST INCURSION

WHEN: Tuesday 10th September WHO: Years 5 & 6

OzHarvest is Australia’s leading food rescue organisation. They have developed a special presentation for primary school stu-dents to raise awareness about reducing food waste. This is a free event that will run for 45minutes. A note with more infor-mation will be sent home soon.

Students from Years 3-6 represented Green Valley Public School in the Wakakirri Story Dance Competition last Wednesday night at the Parramatta Riverside Theatre. Students and teachers worked extremely hard to perform their story “The Good, The Bad & The Sinful”. An enormous thank you to the teachers and parents who took the time to support this very special event.
