Halo is a wrist-worn band that briefly vibrates to notify wearers that another band is within 6 feet (2 metres), reminding them of the need to maintain social distance. It is deployed to all personnel at a job site or workplace to help ensure a safe physical distance is maintained.

Overview

The Halo Solution provides data capture, event summarisation, and additional reporting of close-distance encounters between workers wearing Halo wristband devices. The solution is designed to manage and protect:

• Regular staff who work on a site that is operating with requirements to keep a minimum distance between individuals

• Temporary worksite visitors without knowledge of specific operational patterns and designated buffer zones

• Worksite managers with responsibility for staff training and workplace safety compliance Corporate managers with multi-site overview responsibility, including safety incident reporting and personal protection equipment compliance

All-Day Protection

Halo wrist bands are always on and always “aware”. Low power operation means that workers have reliable, safe-distance monitoring all day long without needing to drain their smartphone battery.

Active Safety

Halo bands prevent risky contact by alerting workers before they get too close. This gentle reminder helps staff maintain social distance, even when focused on tasks.

Accurate Contact Tracing

Detailed proximity logs allow organisations to download interaction data from a band and internally produce accurate contact tracing.

Respects Worker Privacy

No personally identifiable information is shared with Colornet or between bands. No location tracking occurs.

Fast Deployment

Stand-alone bands can be shipped to any site and distributed out of the box. No smartphone is required for setup or operation.

Contact Tracing

Halo bands keep records of interactions with other bands. Managers can then see which bands have been in contact, when, and how many times. In the case of a positive COVID-19 diagnosis, you can use this data internally to trace which specific workers might need testing and quarantine.

How It Works

The Halo Solution contains 5 major components:

• Halo wearable hardware

• Mobile Applications for iOS

• Data Collection API

• Management Dashboard

• Reporting System

The Halo wristband wirelessly senses other Halo devices in the vicinity and analyses Bluetooth signal strength to determine relative distance. Contact events when the relative distance between two devices is stored as a series of data events that can be collected from the Halo by the mobile app via a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) wireless connection.

The data is temporarily stored by the mobile app on the smartphone device for batched uploading to the Cloud for long-term storage and additional processing. The Data Storage API does on-the-fly validation to ensure data event records have data consistency before storing for reporting needs.

A web-based management dashboard application is available for authenticated access for the generation of reports in the event of an incident.

Privacy Considerations

The Halo solution operates without sending any Personally Identifying Information to the cloud-based backend system. The Halo wearable device broadcasts a randomized unique identifier without any knowledge or indication of the user’s PII. By the same mechanism, a Halo wearable device is only able to record the randomised identifiers of another Halo device that has come within the defined proximity, without any knowledge of other individual’s PII.

When using the reporting functions contact tracing, organisations will maintain the unique ID of each Halo band and retain records of the user of the device thus retaining any personal information within their current systems and therefore protected by their current GDPR protocols. Contact reports are provided solely with anonymous device identifiers that need to be re-identified independently by authorised individuals in the organisation.

The Halo backend system does provide the option of retaining the personal information if required and requested by a company, in such cases a full GDPR statement will be provided.
