V3 MISSION HENRIETTA I. LUTTRELL MA R c M —Ar R I L. '88 GREETTINGS In His name thru whom comes new life. I praise Him that through His resurrection we can look forward to abundant life here, ^ and to our own resurrection Into an eternity with Him. NEW LIFE AT WAIPAHU: The new minister and his wife, former teachers at Aparrl Bible Seminary In the Philippines, & their two children have arrived. Many new things are happening there, such as a new class for the young people. Mrs. Lopez teaches the pre schoolers during the Sunday School, then others replace her while she plays the organ for the worship service, which permits me to stay with my class thru both hours without Interruption. I now usually have 6 to 10 students In the class. The former minister moved with his family to an apartment next door to the church bull- ding, and they continue to be active workers. The building Is full every week! The Lopezes conduct a Friday Bible study & choir prac tice on the other side of the Island also. NEW ENCOURAGEMENT: We finished a study of ACTS In my after- school class In mid-March. I was pleased at how well the students remembered the lessons. Two new boys joined us this week, and three recently returned after missing for awhile. The new ones were playing on the church playground at class time so I Invited them In arxl they camel NEW WORKER FOR MAILT: Shirley Fresh planned to go to Africa as a missionary teacher, but was denied a work permit. When she visited here, we talked about the possibility of her coming here to help us start a pre-school In Malll. A certified teacher, she has had experience In teaching and also In starting a new school. She Is filling In by teaching at Palolo Valley Church school un til we dan get state approval to begin the Malll school. NEW FAMILY LIFE: My daughter had her baby Jan.25th, a boy they named after his father. We call him Kawlka (pronounced Kah- vee-kah), which Is Hawaiian for Oavld. Mother and baby are doing well. He has his fussy days & nights, like babies do. As you probably know, all routine Is abandoned when there Is a new baby to care for, which partly explains why the usual February news letter has become a March-April one. Another reason Is because ay mailing agent Is changed, & extra time has been spent In checking on names/addresses In the transition. How we have ap preciated the help of JOHN & WANDA PAGE through the years! Now another former Bible College classmate, Ray Downen, will be mail ing for me through his computer business In Joplln. Can you be lieve that the new postal rates make It cheaper to mall a card to you first class than at bulk rate 3rd class?

GREETINGS from Hawaii as we celebrate our 29thyear of Statehood this month!

THERE ARE NOW capable leaders and teachers at the WaipahuChurch of Christ, so since June 1st I've been devoting my efforts to the HAILI CHRISTIAN CHURCH. I feel less fragmentedthis way, and hope to be even more effective.

My after-school BIBLE CLUB had Sunday evening closing, programwith a good attendance. The large family that lived next door hasmoved away and only one of the children usually comes when I go topick them up, so our attendance is down. We began a monthly ladies'meeting in June. So far only the women in our staff families haveattended. Others express interest when invited, but have not yetcome to a meeting. VBS is planned for Aug.15-19. One of the teachers is a convert from the Palolo Valley church! SHIRLEY ERESH andI visited about 100 homes in the area to distribute flyers aboutVBS, then Shirley passed out more of them on the beach. Throughthese contacts and the VBS, we hope to convert and convict some.

A CATHOLIC LAY MINISTEJ? Invited all the Waianae Coast churchesto participate in his Agape Crusade to help fill the empty seatsin our buildings and to bring Christians together in unity. JOESHOLTIS, our preacher, opened each of the 3 sessions with a songand a prayer. I played the piano. From this effort, we have notyet seen any new attendees. We pray that good was done.

PRE-SCHOOL PLANS for Malli are making slow progress. Ask meabout the application forms for Liability Insurance...

Besides the local church work, I try to be active in all-island events. I was secretary for the steering committee forthe Women's Rally in May. The 101 who attended were changed aswe prayed, "Lord, change me". I'll be secretary next year also.I cooked for 30 people at the Senior Camp in June; for 68 at the2-day Junior Camp.

I'm still trying to work out details to mall the newsletterby the most economical method, with delays in transferring thenon-profit mailing permit, so it's been a long time since youheard from me. Perhaps this is why my Income has declined somuch. I've had $400 in salary for the last two months, abouthalf the usual amount, but all that was available. I'm verygrateful for those friends who faithfully, regulaAy providesupport to undergird my work for Jesus. More is needed...

GREETINGS from Hawaii as we resume

school and fall activities, butwith SUMMER temperatures!

CHILDREN and teachers who attended our end-of-sumraerVBS had a great time learning to praise JESUS, THE KING!However, in spite of many invitations extended and flyers distributed, attendance was down this year. VBS offering bought Baby clothes for six bundles to send toMashoko Hospital in Zimbabwe, Africa.

Since the bundles were to include expensive caps, werecruited a formerly-active member to sew them. She'snow 82, frail, and with a heart condition which preventsattendance at services, but she CAN sew and even doessome shopping for a neighbor! She enjoyed doing the sewing... caps are beautiful. I've begun a weekly Biblestudy with her.

Bible Club attendance has been up. Ten last week. Fiveformer neighbors have come again! About 100 flyers describing the lessons & a party for October have been locally distributed, and the kids handed others to theirfriends...

About 50 men were blessed by an all-island retreat ledby DON HINKLE on "Unity in Christ". Church women are having a brunch this Saturday...

A recent physical exam showed that I am extremelyhealthy. Since ray mother became blind from glaucoma, Ihave regular eye checkups. Pressure is slightly above normal, but there's no evidence of the disease, for which Ipraise the Lord. I thank Him too for my supportive friendsand their increased giving in Aug. & Sept. Quarterly financial statements are available if you ask for them.

I plan to be in California during November for Mark'swedding on the 5th, and to be with Leta's family throughthe Thanksgiving holiday. Don't be concerned if checks andreceipts are delayed in getting back to you—I'll catch upafter the holiday visit...
