2007 2nd Quarter HCM NEWSLETTERGreetings from Oahu! I pray

that you are finding joy in theLord as you serve Him. I am, andam so thanhful that you participate in the ministiy here throughyour prayers and support.

The Island Family ChristianChurch is built on leased land

from the U.S. Military, and issurrounded by military housing. Many folks who attend serve invarious military branches. Manyof these are deployed, leavingspouses and children here- someto finish the school year thenmove on, some to wait for thereturn of a ship, etc.

Amy and I are concernedabout these mothers, especiallywith those who have youngchildren. We propose to provide a class for ladies during thesecond service. We know it is

hard for these mothers to ar

range child care for anotherday. Then they could come toworship in the first service, have a fellowship time with refreshments, and then have atime of study with those whoare facing similar problems. It

could provide a real break forthem. Of course, workers areneeded in many areas, so maybe we should help in existingministries first.

While the congregation hasmany military families thatmove frequently, there is a coreof local residents. We have

known one family-the Garzas-from the time we came to Ha

waii in 1962. A son is now anelder in the congregation. Ithink all the elders are permanent residents and are in chargeofvarious functions of the body.

When we attended the 101

Life Development Class whichall attenders are encouraged totake, we received a list of opportunities for service. One was

listed but not being done. I volunteered. It was called "Sun

shine." They were looking forsomeone to send notes or cards

to those who needed encourag-ment, comfort, or congratulations.Theyhave a "communication form"on the bulletin which provides aplace for prayer requests. Ateam takes those requests, re-

cords them, and emails them tothe office. They are compiledand then sent to the ones who

pray, and to me.

People really use thoseforms. There maybe as many as80 requests. It is heart-breaking to read of the struggles somany are experiencing - financial, relationships, deployment. It is heart-warming to see theirlove and concern for others.

It is hard to decide to whom

I should write. The staff suggested I should choose 5 or 6. Idid 11the first week. I am tryingto do three a day. I wrote toMoani's Jr. High class teacherwho had requested prayer forwisdom as she taught. She toldme that it came just as she wasdiscouraged and needed it. Thedirector of Youth Ministry isleaving-a new one is beingsought-so it is a transition timefor the volunteers, too.

David and Robert sit on

Sundays at the back of the assembly and are ready to helpwith the Power Point, videocamera, sound system, etc. Iwouldn't know what they do,even if they told me. They goreally early to help set up. Thereis lots to do, since we meet in aschool cafeteria-chairs, screen, drapes, microphones, amplifiers, tents on the parking lot for

Page 6: Luttrell Henrietta 2007 Hawaii

information and various ministries, etc. before the 8:30 service. Then Amy takes me andMoani for her class and our

worship time. Moani would liketo help with the nursery the second hour. She is good with thebabies.

David has taken off from his

job for a few weeks to finish therenovation of our houses. He is

getting there. This week he finished the dry wall and paintedthe primer coat in my livingroom yesterday-oh, and madesills for the new windows in mybedroom and living room. Today he moved out the furniture,

laid new carpet, and put theroom back together.

Kawika is on the mainland

for his two-week annual stint inthe Naval Reserve. He is supposed to go for further trainingin November with a potentialfor deployment in January. While he is here he has been

working at a nearby McDonalds.

I covet your prayers for me,for IFCC, my family, and especially Kawika.

Yours to grow the Kingdom,

2007 3rd Quarter HCM NEWSLETTERGreetings in the name of our

Lord Jesus who gives us opportunities to serve Him, and thenthe strength and wisdom to doso. I'm so thankful that the

Lord uses me to be an encour-ager through our monthly all-church newsletter, The Encour-ager - through cards and lettersto folks who request prayers, and through personal chats. Iwear a name tag at church andpeople express their thanks forthem, so I get to meet peoplewho were previously only names- some of the sweetest babies.

Last quarter I wrote thatAmy and I are especially concerned about so many of themilitary wives whose husbandsare deployed and they are raising children alone. So we proposed a class for them and anyother ladies who want to at

tend. While the logistics werebeing worked out, 1 have beenvolunteering in the Toddler class. Now their teacher has had sur

gery, so 1was pressed into beingthe teacher for the 6 weeks she

will be recovering. Now we have

the "green light" to start theclass, but 1 will honor my commitment to the little ones first.

One of the men in our Life

Development is concerned aboutthe ladies who need help withtheir cars while husbands are

away. He wants to start a "carcare" ministry.

As 1 write (8-20), 1 am surethere are some happy, excitedhappy people here. Three military ships are arriving today. Atleast three men are connected

with IFCC.

One ship will be coming andgoing rather quickly, but somewill be bearing returning troopsor this is their home port. Children and wives are rejoicing, but there are stresses, too. Allhave changed after being separated so long and under tryingcircumstances. Adjustmentsmust be made to living arrangements, schedules, etc. They needour prayers.

We live on the leeward coast

of Oahu, a 35-45 minute driveto IFCC. There are about 10

see who is interested. We are.

When David works in town

(right now he does not have aconstruction job) he can't getback in time and then go again. The high school youth have anAlive worship and study timeon Thursday evenings and themen do also. David has been able

to go recently.

Changes continue at a record pace in our IFCC congregation. 1 wrote that the one incharge of youth ministries returned to the mainland to teach

in Missouri near her fiancee

who is a student at Ozark Chris

tian College. Our director ofchildren's ministries took a

similar position in another localcongregation. Our preacher nowhas accepted a missionary callto serve with YWAM as a teach

He will be moving to Kona, Hawaii for training and then goout to serve.

No doubt you are involved inplanning for Christmas in thevarious areas of your life: athome, school, church, and community. The world may be onlygiving lip-service to Christ inChristmas, but it gives Christians the opportunity to invitenon-Christians to events hon

Since our family has recently become new members of theIsland Family Christian Church,we are not aware of all areas of

their service, so it will be hardto make them known. We have

filled shoe boxes with gifts forIndian children at Show Low,Arizona. A group from IFCCserved there one summer and

they plan to go again this summer. Shoe boxes will also be

distributed to pupils in the school

The big news from IslandFamily Church is a new SeniorMinister has been called and he
