Financial Stewardship In today’s Gospel, Jesus had planned to slip away from the

crowds for a few moments of peace and a little rest. When He saw the people gathered, however, He put His needs aside to

meet the needs of others.. Sometimes as good stewards, we are called to do the same.

Stewardship: Parishioners

Answering God’s Call Last week, over 40 children in our community enjoyed a bilingual week of Vacation Bible School. Two parishioners coordinated the 4 day event, utilizing donated supplies from Prince of Peace. These children could not attend VBS at POP in June, so VBS was brought to them. With the help of 3 adults and 16 teens, who were volunteers from POP, St. Peter’s and Hunter Street, these children enjoyed a wonderful week learning about the power of God’s love. Please submit your stewardship story examples to [email protected]. They may be edited for space consideration.

Military Personnel We have started a new prayer

column in the bulletin to recognize

all of our loved ones who are

currently serving in the United

States Military. If you have a loved

one or know someone serving, please email

or call the parish office with the name at

[email protected] or

Need a Rosary? Rosaries are still available in the Gathering Space if you would like one. They are free and have been blessed.

Religious Education - A Fresh Approach to Formation “A Moment with God”

When you see holiness alive in a person, even for a moment, it is inspiring. The truth is, virtue is ultimately attractive. When Jesus walked the earth, people wanted to be with him. Whether he was speaking in the synagogue, walking down the street, or eating at someone’s home, people wanted to be with him. They crowded around him, hung on his every word, grasped just to touch his cloak.

There is nothing more attractive than holiness. This attractiveness has not only been demonstrated in Jesus, but is constantly demonstrated here and now in our own place and time: whenever someone goes out of his or her way to ease the burden of a stranger; whenever someone is honest; whenever someone lays down his or her life by working hard to support his or her family; whenever someone rejects the premise of modern culture.

How are we living a holy and Christian life? Are we taking a few moments during our day to ensure we are transforming someone else’s life? Summer is a great time to teach our children to think of others in service and hospitality - take a few hours this week to give back to others and share our holiness by living a Christ-like model of life of service. (Matthew Kelly)

Looking for a stewardship activity in the Formation Ministry? We can always use a helping hand. Please contact Megan Everett at [email protected] or stop by the Religious Education office to find out about ways in which you can help. First Eucharist pictures maybe picked up in the Religious Ed Office this Sunday, 8am - 12pm. Upcoming Events: Summer Sunday School (K3-GR1) during 8:30 and 11:00 Masses: July 19, 26; August 2, 9, 16 (last class). No registration required. Fall Sunday School: Registration begins soon! Classes start September 20.

for the Seamless Garment Consistent Ethic explained

“If one contends, as we do, that the right of every fetus to be born should be protected by civil law and supported by civil consensus, then our moral, political, and economic responsibilities do not stop at the moment of birth. Those who defend the right to life of the powerless among us: the old and the young, the hungry and the homeless, the undocumented immigrant and the unemployed worker. Such a quality-of-life posture translates in specific political and economic positions on tax policy, employment generation, welfare policy, nutrition and feeding programs, and health care. Consistency means we cannot have it both ways: we cannot urge a compassionate society and vigorous public policy to protect the rights of the unborn and then argue that compassion and significant public programs on behalf of the needy undermine the moral fiber of the society or are beyond the proper scope of governmental responsibility.” (Joseph Cardinal Bernardin The Seamless Garment: Writings on the Consistent Ethic, edited by Thomas Nairn, p. 13) For more information on the Seamless Garment Ministry, please contact Tom & Elsbeth Germanson at 205.565.3456.

Safety Corner REMINDER: Please don’t park along the curbs

painted red near the church entrance. If needed, emergency vehicles aren’t able to get through. We don’t want any time wasted in providing care to our parishioners. Thank you in advance! “Be prepared...Be safe.”

Ladies Auxiliary We will meet Monday, July 20, at 6:30 pm in the St. Jude Room. We will work on our grocery bag mats so bring a snack and a friend.

Natural Family Planning July 19-26 is National Natural Family Planning awareness

week and in honor of this, we would like to remind parishioners of NFP.

Natural Family Planning is a natural way to plan your family and works with a woman’s fertility within marriage. It also strengthens the marital bond by fostering psychological and spiritual marital intimacy between spouses. In keeping with the times, the Church has newer methods of NFP which are simple, effective and monitors mucus to accurately predict her time of fertility to achieve or avoid a pregnancy with 98-99% efficacy. If interested, please contact Dr. Maria Meyers at 205.317.1499 or email [email protected].

Cursillo Ultreya A new Ultreya alternative is held on the 4th Thursday of each month at OLV in the Social Hall, Room A. Join us July 23 at 7:00 pm. For more information, call Jasper at 205.585.4867.
