Financial Stewardship In today’s Gospel, Jesus asks the rich young man to

give away all that he has in order to have treasure in heaven. But he is unable to free himself from his

possessions, and so he goes sadly away. Does what I own keep me from following Jesus?

Religious Education This Sunday during the 11:00 am and 1:30 pm Masses, Confirmation Candidates will celebrate the Rite of Initiation and also be presented with their Bibles. Please pray for the 114 Candidates, sponsors, parents and teachers as they prepare to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in April. As they are presented with their Bibles, we are reminded how much this book should be integrated into our daily lives. God reveals himself to us in two ways, through Sacred Scripture and through Sacred Tradition. Sacred Scripture is the Bible. Sacred Tradition is the teachings that have been handed down from the apostles to their successors through preaching, example, and life of worship, even before the New Testament was written. Both Scripture and Tradition make up the Word of God, and both were entrusted to the Church to interpret and share with the people of every place and time. If you separate the Scriptures from Tradition, the Scriptures begin to die. They are kept alive through their connection with Sacred Tradition. Separate the Scriptures from Tradition and it becomes very easy to misinterpret them. The first generation of Christians didn’t have a written New Testament; the Church existed before it was written. The New Testament itself is the fruit of Sacred Tradition, and a beautiful demonstration of the role Tradition has always played in the lives of Christians from the very beginning. It is impossible to truly appreciate the Bible unless we understand the connection between the Bible and the Sacred Tradition of the Catholic Church. Take some time to spend time as a family reading over Bible stories and share your favorites - time goes so quick, spend some time this Fall sharing your special verses with your children.

l Minus One Group This is a group for anyone who is “minus one.” This can be anyone who has lost a spouse, child, parent, sibling - anyone who is minus a person they loved in their life due to any circumstance. Join us for our next lunch on Tuesday, October 13, at 11:00 am in Deasy Hall. If you are interested or would like more information, please contact Charlotte Shipic at 205.425.0061.

Seniors Lunch The Seniors Lunch will be held Tuesday, October 20. Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am, followed by lunch and bingo at 11:30 am in Deasy Hall. Cost is $6 per person. Please RSVP by calling the parish office at 205.822.9125.

Stewardship: Parishioners Answering God’s Call Someone new to the area wrote into a local over-the-mountain newspaper asking if anyone had a suggestion for a church to attend. It didn’t matter what faith, the person just wanted a church that was inspiring, welcoming and family oriented. A parishioner responded that they were members of Prince of Peace and invited them to meet and attend Mass with them that weekend. The offer was accepted. Later the person responded with how wonderful it was to be so welcomed. The service was wonderful and they felt a part of this faith family the first time they attended. Please submit your stewardship story examples to [email protected]. They may be edited for space consideration.

Casting Lots for the Seamless Garment (John 19:23-24)

Pope Francis - Address to the U.S. Congress Let us remember the Golden Rule: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” (Matthew 7:12). This rule points us in a clear direction. Let us treat others with the same passion and compassion with which we want to be treated. Let us seek for others the same possibilities which we seek for ourselves. Let us help others to grow, as we would like to be helped ourselves. In a word, if we want security, let us give security; if we want life, let us give life; if we want opportunities, let us provide opportunities. The yardstick we use for others will be the yardstick which time will use for us. The Golden Rule also reminds us of our responsibility to protect and defend human life at every stage of its development. (Consistent Life Web Page) issue #280 10.02.15

For more information on the Seamless Garment Ministry, please contact Tom & Elsbeth Germanson at 205.565.3456.
