The Future of Conservatories
Do you want to install a conservatorylike no other? Set to revolutionise
the conservatory market in 2016, the
Solaris Roof is an exciting new product
launching at the FIT Show this year.
We are really excited to be launching the Solaris
Roof at this years FIT Show explains Andrew
Glover, Managing Director at Solaris Solar.Following an extensive period of research and
development, we have come up with a unique
concept that we believe will bring something truly
different to the market. Without revealing too
much information at this stage, we have drawn
on expertise from all of our areas of business to
create something totally new. Combining a solid
conservatory roof with the all the benefits of solar
PV panels, this new product will not only offer
something totally progressive to the homeowner,
but will save them money too.
Available to trade as an easy install, flat packoption, this innovative new roof concept really is
the future of conservatories. But, dont just take
our word for it. Come and see it for yourself on

FREE window & door energy
efficiency ratings from Fensa
From January 2016 FENSA Certied installers
will be able to use free window and door
energy efciency ratings as part of their
registration package. It is totally voluntary. All
they have to do is Opt In, agree to the rules and
be supplied by a BFRC registered fabricator.
These new window and door energy efciency
ratings are operated and independently veriedby BFRC. It is exactly the same as the existing
BFRC scheme in terms of ratings, ratings bands,
license scopes and windows and doors covered.
Labels provided will cover windows and doors
rated A++ to G.
The only difference is these new labels are
branded FENSA and will have their own marketing
support. These ratings will be marketed heavilyat consumers in the second half of 2016 to raise
awareness and drive consumer demand.
Existing BFRC Authorised Retailers can quickly
and easily switch to be a FENSA Authorised
Installer by Opting In by emailing BFRC.
This is the most exciting and radical promotion of
energy efcient windows and doors since the launchof BFRC 10 years ago, explains FENSA managing
director Chris Mayne. This brings energy efciency
ratings to UK homeowners under the name of one of
the most well-known brands in windows and doors. We predict that it will vastly boost the numbers of
installers using windows and door energy efciency
ratings to comply with Buildings Regulations and
put the labels in front of many more consumers
than before.
The benets of Opting In to FENSA Energy Efcient
Windows and Doors Ratings for installers are:
an easier product to sell because homeownersunderstand and recognize energy efciency
labels; installers get their own labels; it is the
easiest route to Part L compliance; a listing on
BFRC website (the rst port of call for homeowners
searching for energy efcient product); consumer
publicity support & recognition; installers can
source glass & frames separately; opportunities
to upsell; technical & marketing support andadvice.
Currently just over 53% of Part L compliant
notications are through window and door
energy ratings. The rest are by declaration of
U-values.
We expect to be reporting a big rise in WER based
compliance by this time next year because of thelaunch of FENSA Energy Efciency Windows and
Door Ratings,concludes Mayne.
The Opt In process for FENSA certied
installers is to email the Operations Team
on [email protected] with their
company name, registration number and name of
their fabricator supplier. FENSA will do the rest.

REGISTRATION FIGURES DOUBLE ASFIT FEVER BUILDS
Year-on-year visitor registration gures
are running at more than double those
recorded for a similar period in the build up
to the 2014 FIT Show. Figures are also way ahead
of the Award winning launch show that took place
in 2013, adding to the excitement that we are
heading for a record event when it takes place in
April.
Adding to the optimism are the website statistics:
almost 30% more users are accessing The FIT Show
website compared with a corresponding period
for 2014, with an exceptionally low bounce rate
(the number of visitors that leave a site without
interacting with it) of just 2.29%.
The reasons for such exceptional gures can be
manifold, said The FIT Shows Matthew Glover.
The obvious factors of a record number of
exhibitors coupled with hundreds of new products
and services expected to be revealed for the rst
time are an obvious pull. And of course a positive
outlook in the market is also contributing.
The FIT Show takes place at The International
Centre Telford on the 12th, 13th and 14th of
April 2016. Entry is free but avoid the queues by
registering early atwww.tshow.co.uk.

GQA is the latest company to join the UK
Pavilion to push the Best of British at
Fensterbau in March. On signing up to
be a part of the show Chief Executive Mick Clay-
ton explained his reasoning.
For us, as the UK window industrys leading
qualications writing body, promoting ourselves at
Fensterbau brings a number of benets.
We are of course heavily entrenched in the UK
market having been working with and for the
industry for the last 25 years, but attending Fen-sterbau as a part of the UK Pavilion will help us to
create even more awareness amongst the 100s of
UK companies attending of who we are and what
we can offer them to support their individual busi-
nesses.
We are already active in emerging countries such
as China and India with our fenestration and con-
struction qualications, and have received enquir-
ies from the Middle East, so spending time at the
window industrys largest international exhibition
is an ideal way for us to push ourselves further
into the consciousness of the wider industry, in-
cluding in Europe.
It goes without saying that we are really excitedby the opportunity of being able to stand next to
the GGF and other UK suppliers to promote the
Best of British and we are expecting a really posi-
tive response to our presence.

FENSA TO SWITCH ITS INSPECTIONS
PROVIDER
F
ENSA is switching its installations inspections
to RISA Ltd from the British Board of
Agrement (BBA) from February 2016. RISA
Ltd is the new subsidiary company recently set up
by the Glass and Glazing Federation Group (GGF
Group).
RISA Ltd is a brand new company with one of
the most experienced inspections teams in the
industry. The FENSA inspection team at the BBA is
moving to RISA Ltd to continue to provide the same
excellent levels of service and professionalism asbefore.
FENSA Certied Installers will benet from having
the same inspector that they have worked with over
many years, no change in inspection procedures
or standards, but with better controlled costs that
will minimise future increases in inspection fees
over the next few years. FENSA is also pleased to
announce that for a least the next 24 months, all
inspection costs will remain frozen.
FENSA will be delighted to work with this new GGF
Group company,comments Chris Mayne, Managing
Director, FENSA. It offers the exciting opportunity
of even closer collaboration and streamlined
administration which will deliver more efciencies.
This should allow us to better control costs and
improve the inspection service for FENSA Installers.
Chris Mayne concludes: FENSA would like to thank
the BBA for all its excellent work supporting FENSA
over the previous 12 years and wishes the company
all the best for the future.
FENSA installers should see no changes in
advising of installations for inspection or booking
inspectors visits. The only change FENSA
Installers can expect will be new telephone and
email contact details and these will be advised
very shortly.
For further information on RISA please email
[email protected] or telephone 020 7939

his year is set to be action packed for the

their 2016 Calendar of events.
This year is really going to be our biggest
yetcomments Gary Morton, chairman of GM
Fundraising. We are delighted to see the return
of some of our newer events with the Football 5s
in May, alongside our signature events; the Golf
Day in July and our Gala Dinner in October. The
Golf day has an exciting new venue of Mottram
Hall, and the Gala Dinner returns to The Holiday
Inn in Stratford with a Halloween theme fancy

The biggest event we are undertaking sees us face
our biggest challenge to date: the Border2Border
cycling challenge, taking place in June. Our
18 strong riding team are now hard into their
training to complete the 2,016 mile, 92,000 ft of
climbing, journey from Vancouver in Canada to
Tijuana, Mexico. Our support team is also hard
at work with planning and preparation to support
the cyclists. Visit us on stand A22 at this years
FIT Show to nd out more about the ride and seeif you can beat the cycling pros at a one minute
sprint.
We are also launching the inaugural GMF Cup.
A Ryder Cup style competition to be held at the
prestigious home of golf, the Belfry, in September.
The four day event is set to test even the most
competent golfers amongst us.
Of course none of these events would be possible
without the overwhelming support of the industry,
for which the GMF team and children from Hope
House Childrens Hospices are continually grateful.

The team were inspired to enter the event after Winter Wolfe
Gaskin, grandson of Liniars Design & Development Director
Adrian Reg Redshaw, sadly passed away just one day after
his birth in October last year.
Adrians daughter Nicola and her partner, Dean Gaskin, had
been excitedly awaiting the arrival of their first child. But
sadly, following a healthy pregnancy and natural labour,
Winter Wolfe suddenly stopped breathing after just 30
minutes with his new parents. Doctors battled to save their
son, but tragically he died in their arms the next day.
Despite their heart-breaking loss Nicola and Dean were full
of praise for the incredible care and support they received
from the hospital staff and have since raised more than 3,000 for their Support The Baby Unit
Fund appeal.

Liniar staff tackle Wolf Run for
neonatal charity
Atragic event has inspired two departments at
Liniar to team up to take part in an extremeoff-road running event in April to raise money
for a worthy cause.
Liniars Design & Development and Marketing teams
are joining forces to tackle the Wolf Run, a 10km
course featuring a series of man-made and natural
obstacles, in order to raise funds for the Royal Derby
Hospitals Neonatal unit.
Winter Wolfe Gaskin, grandson of Liniars Design &
Development Director Adrian Reg Redshaw, sadly
passed away just one day after his birth in October
last year.
Adrians daughter Nicola and her partner, Dean Gaskin,
had been excitedly awaiting the arrival of their rst
child - the nursery was decorated, baby grows washed
and folded and bets taken on birth date and weight.
But sadly, following a healthy pregnancy and natural
labour, Winter Wolfe suddenly stopped breathing after
just 30 minutes with his new parents. Doctors battled
to save their son, but tragically he died in their arms
the next day.
Despite their heart-breaking loss Nicola and Dean
were full of praise for the incredible care and support
they received from the hospital staff and have since
raised more than 3,000 for their Support The Baby
Unit Fund appeal.
The story touched the hearts of everyone at Liniar - so
when Nikki Dunbar, Design & Marketing Co-ordinator,
came across an event called the Winter Wolf Run, sheimmediately suggested that the two departments
enter a team to help raise even more money.
Although too late for the winter event, Adrian and
his colleagues eagerly agreed to sign up to the
spring challenge. A total of 14 Liniar staff, including
Marketing Director Sue Davenport and D&D Manager
Chris Armes, will be joined by Dean on Saturday, April
9 just days before this years FIT Show in Telford.
Based in Warwickshire, the Wolf Run (standing for
Woods, Obstacles, Lakes and Fields), is a unique mix
of running trails across open ground and through
woodland, as well as open-water swimming,
combining to create a tough physical and mental
challenge.
There are a series of physical trials using man-made
obstacles, with the 10km run course also featuring ahuge number of natures obstacles - from lake swims
to mud pits, fallen trees, boggy ground, ditches, hills
and dense foliage. The photographs from previous
events serve to illustrate the challenge that lies
ahead for even the ttest members of the team
most of whom are not runners.
We were all deeply upset for Adrian and his family, said
Nikki. When I saw the Winter Wolf Run advertised it
was too much of a coincidence to ignore. I just knew we
had to enter as it would be a tting way for us to raise
some funds for an excellent cause. Im delighted that
every member of both departments will be taking part,
even though some took more persuading than others!
Im sure that, led by Dean, well be able to do ourselves
proud in Winter Wolfes memory.

A massive 175+ top brands & dozens
of new names flock to fit
Within three short
years The FIT Show
has become the
place to see and be seen in
the UK window, door, glass and
conservatory market and this
April will bear witness to the
biggest FIT Show yet, with more
than 175 top suppliers taking
part in a show that is stuffedwall-to-wall with new products.
But whilst most of the top
brands will be stacking their
stands between them with
hundreds of products that
will be seen for the first time
anywhere, more than 35 brand
new names will be taking spacefor the first time at The FIT
Show.
The new exhibitors represent
a huge diversity of products
and services including trade
fabricators, software specialists,
hardware distributors and
manufacturers, frame machinery
suppliers, fire testing experts,
packaging materials, heating
and ventilation specialists,
composite and moulded doors.whatever visitors may be
looking for there will be new
suppliers, let alone products, to
choose from.
The number of exhibitors
coupled with the fact that
virtually every one is anticipated
to be offering new productsand services following a gap
of almost two years since the
previous FIT Show, means that
visitors should plan their visits
more thoroughly than ever.
Common feedback from visitors
to past FIT Shows is that they
should have left more time for
their visit,says Matthew Glover
of the organisers. This April we
have more exhibitors than ever
before showing more products
and we urge visitors to plantheir visits carefully and certainly
to allow plenty of time, ideally
attending for two days or more. It
will be time well spent.
The FIT Show takes place at The
International Centre Telford on
the 12th, 13th and 14th of April
2016. Entry is free but avoid thequeues by registering early at:

Vertex Conservatory Roof System
one system, every combination
Vertex is a complete conservatory roofsystem that also includes a wide choice
of glass and polycarbonate options. Heidi
Sachs, Modplans Managing Director, comments:
Our Vertex conservatory roof system has been
in our portfolio for many years and sales have
remained buoyant year on year: the range offers
installers a great package of benefits and gives
them everything they need from a conservatory
roof in a choice of three material options.
Modpaln says the entire Vertex roofing system
offers exceptional quality and ease of fitting.
All options have a unique one piece peripheral
main beam that incorporates an integral gutter,
giving the roof much greater inherent strength.
There is a ring beam available with or without
dentil moulding. And the design is fully flexible,
with options available for Victorian, Edwardian, P
shaped designs along with the Open Canopy and
Canopy Conservatory too.
The Vertex conservatory roofing system is just onepart of Modplans conservatory roof offering. Aswell
as Vertex, the company also offers the Ultraframe
UltraSky skylight, LivinRoom and the Wendland

in Modplans Newport manufacturing headquarters.

New Celsius Solid Roof installation video is online now
S
ynseal has launched a new and informative
Celsius Solid Roof Installation Guide video
on the companys Youtube Channel.
The 10-minute video production features two highly
experienced specialist roofing engineers Matt
Williams and Gary Woods from the Synseal Technical
Services department, working as a team to fit the
Celsius Solid Roof above existing PVC-U window
frames to mimic a typical UK conservatory retrofit-
style installation.
Fully approved and registered by both the LABC
and LABSS for installations in England, Wales and
Scotland, the Celsius Solid Roof features an all-
timber construction with Kingspan TEK structural
insulated panels (SIPs) to deliver a truly warm
roofing solution. This engaging video uses real time
and time lapse footage, supported by graphic details
where required, to demonstrate how swiftly and
easily the solid roof can be assembled.
Celsius Solid Roofs are manufactured in kits with
components precisely dimensioned to meet specific
site requirements. Starting with the eaves beam
and wall starter timbers, Matt and Gary construct
the timber and SIPs sub-structure in sequence on
the video, before fitting the eaves tray sections,
breather membrane, wall starter soaker, tile bar
sections, rows of interlocking Envirotiles, dry-fitting
hip caps and ridge caps, soffit and fascia boards and
finally the gutter brackets and guttering assembly to
complete the roof.
This technical video aims to deliver a detailed
guide to building our fast-fitting Celsius Solid Roof,
comments Synseals Head of Marketing, Mark
Schlotel. Installers who attended our recent Triple Billtraining workshops will have seen this practical demo
carried out before their eyes, but not everyone can
afford time off the road to join us at Synseals Head
Office in Nottinghamshire. Our new video condenses
the straightforward installation sequence into a
compact 10-minute format, highlighting best practice
top tips.

AMBIMAX EXCEEDS ALL EXPECTATIONS
T
uffX reinvigorated the conservatory sector with
the launch of Ambi-Max oversize glass units,
as a simple but dynamic concept which hasproved popular with customers and consumers.
Launched initially as a niche glass roofing option that
would eliminate common problems associated with
muntin bar leaks, Ambi-Max as a product, has gone on
to far exceed initial expectations.
Popular for both domestic and commercial applications
with the technical and aesthetic benefits it offers, the
oversize Ambi-MAX option has achieved outstandingsales figures month on month, with a staggering 50%
increase from 2013 2015 .
Customers have been impressed by the high production
standards combined with fast turnaround times as
well as the flexibility of the national fleet, which
delivers Ambi-Max either direct to site or factory.
Ambience as a range has widened business scope
for those looking to offer more options in a very
competitive sector, which requires constant evaluation
to keep the end user inspired to invest.
Regarding Ambi-Max, many TuffX customers state that
the simple solution it provides to a common technical
problem has brought about many time saving benefitson site, with call backs virtually eliminated in relation
to leaks. Additionally, the product offers a striking
alternative aesthetic that allows for more dynamic
conservatory design.
Ambi-Max units are produced in the companys
modern manufacturing facility in Knowsley that

glass sizes required to produce the oversize units.
There are few production companies today that canmanufacture the units on such a fast turnaround with
all requisite industry guarantees.
Andy Hayes, Sales Manager comments, Ambi-Max has
become increasingly popular since its launch as our sales
figures prove and we believe it will continue to do so. It
offers substantial advantages for our customers and this
differentiation combined with consumer awareness is

W
hen Jim and Chris Shearn
of fast-expanding West-
Country fabricatorSeal-Lite Group decided they
needed a new welder amongst
other machinery two years ago,
they decided to put their buying
decisions on hold until The FIT
Show, which was due to take place
a few months later in 2014.
They reasoned that rather than
driving around the country lookingat the equipment they were
interested in from the companies
they had identified as potential
suppliers, The FIT Show could
allow them to compare machines
virtually side by side, all under the
same roof at the same time. They
reasoned that they could save
time, hundreds of miles travellingand possibly achieve a better price
too.
Their patience paid off, as Jim
explains: there were a number of
welding machines on our radar, allexhibiting at FIT Show, in particular
a 4 head inline welding machine
from Haffner-Murat, the SMR-4.
It had some new features and
benefits over and above machines
offered by other suppliers but I
had no idea about the build quality
offered by this company.
I am an engineer with an aerospacebackground and understand and
appreciate engineering, build-
quality and technology and I took
the opportunity to literally climb
all over the machine, on top of it
and as far inside it as I could get.
One of their team said to me that
he had never seen anyone climb
over one of their machines likeit at a show before. But clearly
we were impressed because we
bought it there and then, added
Jim.
Jim is one of a large band of
professionals that are committed
to using The FIT Show as the hub
for their companys purchasing
activities, realising that it presents
the perfect opportunity to see,
touch and try products and
equipment in a matter of hours
that would otherwise take several
months to evaluate.
We felt the show saved us time
and money and we are looking
forward to this years FIT Show in
April, said Jim.
More than 175 exhibitors are
taking part at The FIT Show which
takes place at The International
Centre Telford on the 12th, 13th

VEKA UK virtually triples fund-raising record
The VEKA UK Group has presented its biggest
EVER charity cheque, having raised more
than 15,900.26 for The Encephalitis Society.
The industry-leading suppliers previous biggest
donation was an impressive 5100 for The British
Legion, raised over a six-month period in 2014.
The VEKA UK Group chose to support The
Encephalitis Society for a full year, rather than
the six months usually dedicated to each chosen
charity, after Head of Technical Mark Barsby was
diagnosed with this condition, which causes
swelling of the brain.
Head of Human Resources Gabriela Hammond
explains: The Encephalitis Society has become a
very important charity to us here at The VEKA UK
Group since Mark was diagnosed.
Everyone has been so keen to support the work being
done for those affected and their families, that we
soon exceeded our previous fund-raising record!
Weve had all sorts of activities going on throughout
the year, from three-day sponsored bike rides to
virtual bike rides on an exercise bike in the office!
Weve had bake-offs, cake sales, pin and bracelet
sales, wear it blue days, Christmas card donations
and a sponsored Christmas Jumper day.
Myself and a number of the team ran the Manchester
10k and theres even been a company waist watchers!
Weve had a number of generous donations from
customers including Modplan and Glazerite, for which
we are very grateful. Members of Network VEKA also
gave generously at the AGM and Business Centre
Event.
All in all, weve raised 15,000.26 and were very
proud to be handing over our biggest ever charity

Astraseal to the
rescue in complex
conservatory
installation
When Northamptonshire
based installers
Wollaston Windows were
faced with an especially
challenging conservatory
project in Little
Houghton, they knew
they could rely on their
trade supplier Astrasealfor full support. Working
closely with Astraseal,
Wollaston Windows
installed a bespoke
conservatory, fully
fabricated by Astraseal.
The brief from the
homeowner was very
detailed, requiring the
coming together of
aluminium bi-folding
doors, a bespoke
roof system and high
performance glazing,
with a specific RAL
colour chosen for the
external and internal
finish. It was imperative
that the sightlines
remained consistent
throughout the roof
and frames, meaning
it was essential that
the complete building
could be designed and
manufactured by the one
supplier. Calculationswere carried out to
enable the manufacture
of a steel support frame
as both the front and
side elevations of the
conservatory were to
be manufactured using
the Smarts Visofold
Aluminium door system.
The roof was specified
to include Pilkington
active glass units andautomatic roof vents.
RAL7009 was the
chosen colour, with the
aluminium bi-folding
doors being powder
coated and the roof,
gutter and all bespoke
cladding sections spraypainted by Astraseal in
their own spray booth.
This had the potential
to be quite tricky but
thanks to Astraseals
support, the installation
ran like clockwork, said
Wollaston Windows MD,
Brian Henson. Astraseal
offer a full technical
support package from
start to finish. One of
the key benefits is how
they pre-assemble the
conservatory in their
factory beforehand,
meaning we knew it
would fit togetherperfectly when out on
site. Due to an unusual
tile detail, where the new
conservatory had to meet
the existing building a
bespoke box gutter was
designed by Astraseal,
this was welded on site to
form a one piece seamlessgutter to run the full
length of the building.
The fact they can spray
everything in-house was
perfect for this job and
meant we could go back
to our customer with
really competitive lead
times and costs.
We were delighted to
work with Wollaston
Windows on this
project,commented
Zac Nedimovic,
Astraseal marketing
manager. As ever, we
strove to do as much
of the assembly work
as possible ourselves,
leaving the customer
to focus on doing an
excellent installation. Its
great for the installer,
because they can source
everything for such a
complex project from
one supplier. Price andlead time are reflected in
Astraseal having complete
control over every aspect.
Wollaston Windows did
a fantastic job, and were
really looking forward
to working with them
on other projects in the
future.
As one of the UKs
largest and longest-
serving fabricators,
Astraseal boasts an
extensive product
portfolio, manufacturing
the full range of REHAU
windows and doors,
Global conservatory
roofs, and Smarts
Aluminium windows,
doors, curtain walling
and shopfronts. The
company recently
launched the Eurocell
uPVC system and also
produce sealed units
in-house includingtoughened and fire rated
glazing. Astraseal have
a purpose made spray
booth enabling them
to offer a full colour
coating facility.

January saw preparations for the GM Fundraising
Border2Border Cycling Challenge step up a gear.
With the ride only a few months away, the
attention of the whole team is being focused on
preparing for the upcoming challenge, explains Gary
Morton, founder of GM Fundraising and Rider on the
B2B challenge. All the riders will be increasing their
training levels and official training schedules have
been circulated.
Although not obligatory, the riders are expected to attend
three weekends of group training. The first takes place
at Hope House in March, to remind us all for whom we
are ultimately doing this. The second in Mallorca in April
is to get us used to the different terrain and increased
temperatures. The third, which is compulsory, takes
place in the Peak District in May. We encourage everyone
involved to attend these weekends so that we can learn
to work as a team and build up some of the much talked
about comradery that is so important in keeping everyone
going through the toughest moments. And believe me,
this ride is going to have some of the toughest.
The first support team meeting, has also now taken
place, which saw all the support team together for
the first time on this ride and provided the perfect
opportunity for the team to welcome the final member
of the support crew on board, Chris Royall. Dave
Broxton, Support Team Captain, comments: When it
comes to supporting the riders, our mantra is plan for
the worst hope for the best. The main topic of the
meeting was the route and the difficulties day-by-day of
supporting the riders without the things we now-days
take for granted, like mobile coverage.
Much of the ride will be taking place in the absolute
wilderness of mountains and deserts. There are hardly
any towns en-route so it is essential that each support
vehicle knows all the emergency contacts and places
for each stage of the ride. We will also be investing in
Satellite phones which we hope never to use.
Gary concludes: The team has also turned to the all-
important fundraising, the main reason this challenge iseven taking place. The Team Profiles are now online and
each person offers up an insight into their motivation,
explaining what they are most looking forward to, and
dreading, throughout the ride.
