FROM YOUR LODGE SECRETARY

Hello to all! We are all very sad at the passing of our Inner Guard, Mike Stornetta. Mike was a good friend and a very good Elk. He will be missed very much. Our heartfelt condolences to his family.

We had a great time at the 4th of July Parade and the BBQ after the parade. We are looking forward to the Hot August Sunday on August 3rd. Hope everyone will attend as there is something for everyone: Car show, chili cook off, bocce tournament, BBQ, face painting and more!!

At this time we have 30 members who still have not paid their dues for this year. Please remember if you are a delinquent member, you cannot come to the Lodge at all. Just think of all you're missing!! We are very happy that we have eight new candidates that will be either initiated or transferring into the Lodge.

Enjoy the rest of the summer, please stop by the Lodge.

Best ever, Judy Fisher Lodge Secretary

PURPLE PIG REPORT FOR JUNE

Tim Horton, Ben Haslet, Jan Schreiber, Bob & Ann Crain, Frank Brackin along with the Hershey Pig and the bar pigs for a total of $401.20.

Warm Summer greetings fellow Elk members,

August is upon us and it is almost time for the jamboree. As you recall the jamboree was created in the 80s to help raise money for our district events. This year we are adding a little bit more fun with our fishing trip, bay cruise, golf outing and seafood soup cook off! Thursday's dinner will be a spaghetti feed, Friday is cook your own steak, and Saturday will be a seafood extravaganza with our big basket auction and raffle to follow. Time is running out, so get in your reservations that came with your packet as soon as possible! We look forward to seeing you on the north coast in Eureka! Fraternally,

Pete Day SVP, GNWD, Eureka #652

Activities Report for July/August 2014 An All American 4

th of July: Great turnout for the parade and BBQ. Thank you to all the float workers, Dave,

Becki and Kathy did a good job on #832’s colorful float. ER Cal Cox and Sheila were front and center on the float, followed by adults and children waving flags and passing out candy. Vivian and Joanne carried our banner, Len and Tom carried the colors. I understand the Elk’s Float got a wonderful welcome from the Judge’s stand. More thanks to the BBQ folks, Chef Jimmy did the BBQing, Jan was our volunteer bartender, Janis did ticket sales, Judy and Cal filled in here and there, and Bus Langdon supplied the American flag decorations. I was concerned about the food running out, but we made it with some to spare. Thank you all, great team work. A note for next year, these events are really growing, we will need two full teams next year, one for the Float and one for the BBQ. I would also like to add music to the event and games for the children. Without more volunteers this event might not happen. Be ready to volunteer on July 4, 2015. On a Sad Note: We lost our sweet, dear member and Officer Mike Stornetta on July 4th. Mike was always

ready to volunteer and helped at all our events. Like his father Paul, they both worked the Elk Crab Feed for years, and Mike was our Crab Feed chairman the last few years. Last year Mike helped decorate the 4th of July float, he did the BBQing on many occasions, hosted the Friday Night BBQ, entered the Chili Cook Off and supported all the events. Mike will be missed by all of us and for me, as the lodge’s Activities chairman, he will be irreplaceable.

Suggestions for new events: I am always happy to hear ideas for new events. Barbara Allen suggested we do an activity for Law Enforcement or a tribute to Teachers. I will be checking into this, however, there would be a cost issue here so that will need to be considered. Joe D’Adamo’s suggestion was that we do something special for the member with the most longevity as an Elk. And Sam Orchard would like to have an evening of song, music and talent. Keep the suggestions coming, I will try and get these events on the calendar, if not this year, hopefully they will be considered for next year. Also, please, please attend the next events meeting in October, with your thoughts and ideas for events. Fraternally, Sandy Silviera-Loyal Knight and Activities

THE ELKS EAR (Things that are going on at the Old Lodge)

July was a fun month with the 4th of July parade and BBQ after. The only down side was there were 200 entries and guess what, we were #196!! But what the hey, we had a lot of Elks, staff and a ton of kids. The turnout at the Lodge was very impressive. All you members that are paying your dues need to enjoy all the things we are doing! The Vice President's visitation was July 26th and there goes July.

August is going to be something else! As the saying goes "let us entertain you". Starting with Hot August Sunday, August 3rd with a car show, chili cook-off, bocce ball tournament, face painting, and a hot dog, hamburger BBQ and whatever else Sandy has come up with.

At the Eureka Lodge we have the Great Northwest District Jamboree on August 15th and 16th. Tickets for the raffle are still available at the Lodge and you need not be present to win. Again, you will have a very good time.

Let's end the month with August 24th. There is something new we are going to try. Yes, it's going to be a Pentathlon or as our Activities Chairman insists on calling it a Quintathlon. Five events which are darts, pool bocce ball, horseshoes and shuffleboard. The festivities will start with a Bloody Mary contest at 9:00 a.m. till 10:30 a.m. (This may have a little effect on the scores.) Then the events will start and end somewhere around 2:00 p.m. The ongoing Hall Building Funds drawing 50/50 raffle will be held sometime after the events. You do not have to be present to win. The BBQ will be going on during the events and you can also watch from the bar. We could use some help on these events. Check with Len Fisher, he will be happy to put you to work!

And, if that is not enough, there will be a hole in one or closest to the pin contest with our new green.

Thank You To All The Officers Who Donate Their Time for the Good of the Lodge

Napa Elks RV Club

Plymouth Outing June 26-29th

What a great trip with a good group, we had 14 rigs and 3 cabins. Weather was in the 80’s all weekend. Thursday evening we met at the Silveira’s site for cocktails and appetizers, and then 19 of us headed for the Jackson Elks for dinner. We received a nice welcome from their ER and other members. Friday was our Souper Simple Supper, appetizers, followed by 6 different soups with salads and desserts, very tasty. Joe D’Adamo invited all to a poker game after dinner. On Saturday everyone did their own thing, a few went gambling, I heard Shelia Cox won $$$ at the casino, others went to visit friends; some went swimming, shopping and I took a nap. Saturday evening we started our Luau, we had a quick meeting, then appetizers with a few tropical cocktails, followed by a pulled pork/ dinner with lots of salads and desserts. At 7:00 our entertainment Aloha Polynesia arrived. Three lovely young ladies with their MC gave us a wonderful performance. Some of our RV ladies got up to learn the hula and later several of the men…….such fun watching the guys’ hula. Aloha Polynesia provided great music, three costume changes to complement their Polynesian dances. We ended the Luau with a group picture of our members and the Aloha Polynesian dancers. Sunday was Bloody Marys and Breakfast Burritos, Tim Horton was in charge of the burritos, sadly, Tim was under the weather most of the weekend. However, Tim did supply the burrito makings and a few of the gals pitched in and did the Burritos, they were delicious, thank you Tim and the gals. I did roll over the deposit for Plymouth again for next year, same weekend in June. Thank goodness, NO broken wheel awarded this trip. Next trip is planned for November at the Vineyards. If you are an Elk and have a RV please join. Just a quick reminder we will need new officers soon, so please give this some thought. Happy Trails and Aloha, The Silveira’s and The Biggs
