LastmonthavotewastakenonclubnightabouthostingtheIPMSNationalsScaleModelShowhereinAucklandandtheoverwhelmingresponsewas“agoforlaunch”.
YouraffirmativevoteforNationalsisalsoapledgetohelpsopleasebesurethatanytimeyouareaskedtohelptogiveitago.Mostofthetaskswillbeprettystraightforwardandwhentheshowrollsarounditwillbesuperrewardingtoknowthateachofusplayedasmallpart.

PlanninghasalreadycommencedfortheIPMSNationalstobeheldinAucklandnextyear.Eventhoughitseemsalongwayoffthereisplentytodotomakeasuccessfulshow.
ThiseventisgoingtobeanIPMSNationalcompetitionplusanopencompetitionforthegeneralpublic.Therewillalsobedisplaysofnoncompetitionmodels,tradestandsandmodelingdemonstrations.
TheeventisscheduledtobeheldtowardstheendofSeptember2013andapreliminaryhallbookinghasbeenmadewhichwillbeconfirmedby
theendofNovember2012oncethecommitteeishappywithit.Hereisanoutlinewhatwehavetoachieveoverthenextfourmonths.

Startseekingexpressionsofinterest fromsuppliersforsponsorshiporbe willingtosetupatradestand.
DuringFebruary2013iswhentheinformationpackageswillneedtobesentouttothevariousshopsandothermodelingclubs.
TheIPMSAucklandbranchwillbehavingadisplayofmodelsandputon
somemodelingdemonstrations.AtthenextclubnightIneedtogetanideaofsomethemesthatwecanputondisplay&whowouldcontributemodelstothattheme.
Wealsoneedtosettleonwhatwewanttocallthisevent.IwilldiscussthisfurtherattheOctoberclubnight.

ItisthattimeofyearagainwhentheWaikatoScaleModellersClubgathertogethertocommemoratethosewhohavefalleninbattleinpastandpresentconflictsaroundtheworld.ThevenueisatLakeKarapirodomain,onthe10thand11thofSeptember2012.TheWaikatoScaleModellersClubhasbeengivensoleresponsibilityforthemodeldisplaysandcompetitionsandalsopromisestobeourbiggestyetwithalargearrayofdisplaymodels,competitionswithmedalsandprizestobeawardedtothewinnerstheisalsothePeople’sChoicevotingtokeepthepublicentertained.Therewillalsobelivemodelbuildinggoingonthroughouttheweekend.
Thisyear’seventisduetobethelargestyetwithlivere-enactments,militarydisplays(includingupwardsof80militaryvehiclesandarmour),eventheAir-showissettobethelargestyetandwillinvolveofallthingsadivebombingdisplayontoasubmarine!

Judging:AllmodelsbothondisplayandinthecompetitioncategorieswillbesubjecttothePeople’sChoicevotesobringouttheamusingandunusualbuildstogivethepublicsomethingtocatchtheireye.Againallmodelsmustbeontheirappropriatetablesby12:00pmMiddaySaturday10thSeptember2012andthewinnerswillbeannouncedonSunday11thSeptemberat3:00pmthatafternoon.

ASyoucanseefromthepicturesIamluckytohavevariousspacesformyhobby.MymainworkingspacewasusedasanofficebythepreviousownersoI’vesetupthePCtherealongwithmymodelingdesk,displaycabinetandreferencelibrary. Inthedoublegaragewhichisattachedtothehouseyoucanseemystash,ImanagedtograbsomeLundiashelvingfrommywife’sworkjustbeforetheyupgradedtheirstoragesystems,worksfineforme.IwouldjustliketopointoutthatnotallthosekitsaremineaboutathirdbelongtoSpongyakaAlan,justincaseyouthoughtIwasacompulsivekitcollector.Ialsohavemycompressorandairbrushoutthere.
Mymainmodelinginterestisaircraft,usuallyin1/72scalebutinmycollectionIhave1/144,1/48,and1/32scalesrepresentedaswell.
I’malsodrawntoothersubjectsandmodelingstyleswhichinterestme.Likesci-fi/fact,EggPlanesforalaugh,Figures,AFV’s,Cardmodeling,Solidscalemodeling,andjustlatelyClassicCars. WhenI’mworkingIaimforatidybuild,goodpaintjobandsilverfreedecals.ThereisatemptationtouselotsofaftermarketgoodiesbutItryandusewhatI’vegotinthekitwiththeexceptionofsomescratchbuildingofmyown.
IcangetboggeddowninresearchthismaybeapaintschemeorsomeothertrivialpointbutonceI’veovercomethistypeofprocrastinationthebuildgoesalotsmoother. WhatIhavefoundmotivatinginmybuildingrecentlyisgettingtogetherwithasmallgroupofmodelingmatesandbuilding;eithertoathemei.e.buildakitinadayorworkingonmylatestproject CheersDimitri.
