Today, as we continue rejoicing in the Lord’s Resurrection, the Church celebrates Divine Mercy Sunday. The gift of God’s Mercy is central every year on this second Sunday of Easter when the Gospel reading from John tells us how Jesus breathed the Holy Spirit on the Apostles on Easter Sunday night and gave them a share in His own mission to forgive sins: “Jesus breathed on them and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them.’” (John 20:22-23). It’s important to see that this is the first thing the Lord Jesus does when He appears to his disciples after His Resurrection. It teaches us how central the gift of mercy is, and how clearly the Lord wants the Church to be the minister of that gift. Too often people mistakenly say, “I don’t need a priest. I’ll just go directly to God for forgiveness”, as if it’s either a matter of going to Jesus or or or or to a priest. But the Scriptures make clear that we are meant to go to Jesus through through through through the priest and the Church. And we do this in the beautiful Sacrament of Reconciliation. As we continue celebrating Easter I want to thank all those who have worked so hard to make our Holy Week and Easter celebrations so beautiful: to our many musicians and choir members under the leadership of Emily Targonski, to Barb Smith and her team of parishioners who decorated the church and Parish Center, to our dedicated Sacristans who worked so hard to prepare everything for our Masses and kept the church organized, clean and ready for our celebrations, our altar servers, lectors and Eucharistic ministers, as well as those parishioners who served as greeters and ministers of hospitality at our Masses. Thank you for everything you did! I also offer special thanks to our parish office staff who worked so behind the scenes, especially Lisa, Crissy, Melissa, Matt, Kirill, and Tom. Dear Brothers and Sisters:

Happy Easter! Today, as we continue rejoicing in the Lord’s Resurrection, the Church celebrates Divine Mercy Sunday. The gift of God’s Mercy is central every year on this second Sunday of Easter when the Gospel reading from John tells us how Jesus breathed the Holy Spirit on the Apostles on Easter Sunday

During worship, we enter into God’s presence and he gives himself to us, so that we are made stronger by his life and grace. This happens especially

when we worship through the Sacraments, and most powerfully in the Eucharist, the Mass. Worship isn’t limited to what we do in church. Even the simplest and most ordinary things of our day can be offered to the Lord as an

expression of worship, as an expression of our love for him: the changing of a diaper, helping our kids with homework, or doing the dishes.

In fact, he’s always existed in the perfect loving relationship: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. God has never been lonely, but he wants us to

share in the joy of his love by bringing us into his family: “God the Father destined us for adoption to himself through Jesus Christ.” (Ephesians 1:5) As part of God’s family, the Church, we are brought into relationship with one another. These relationships can be familiar and friendly, as well as deep and supportive. Fellowship is all the ways

we engage with our fellow parishioners in genuine Christian relationships and draw one another deeper into the life of our parish family and Church.

members to lives of service and teaching in full accord with the pastoral mission of Jesus Christ. Bless these men as they are ordained that they may be humble and faith-inspired in their service and instruction. Bless their wives and families as they join in the celebration and generously support these

new deacons and our Archdiocese in their ministry. We ask this through Christ, our Lord.
