Raffle You will see in your parish envelopes that each month there will

be a 50/50. An envelope is provided for each month. To play the

50/50, please put $5.00 in the envelope. The drawing will be

held at the last Monday of each month in the Church. The winner

will win half and the church will receive the other half. This is a

small fun way for the parish to raise money.

How can I fit more prayer into my busy day?

“Pray constantly” sounds challenging but it doesn’t have to be. Actually, busy days offer many great opportunities for

prayer if we know where to look. Consider these suggestions: Pray throughout the day. Consider praying the Rosary on the way to work, saying grace before lunch, offering a quick “I love you,” or praying for guidance for important decisions. Even job-related tasks can become “prayers in action.” Fifteen minutes a day. Good fr iends know text messages can’t replace being together. It’s the same with God. He loves us and wants our company. Aim for 10-15 minutes of daily prayer. Thank God for your blessings, meditate on Scripture, offer him your day, or simply enjoy his company. It’s the love that counts. For her love and humility, Jesus commended a poor but generous widow for her small donation (Mark 12:43-44). Sometimes, we have little time or energy for “good prayer.” Remember, what pleases God is not the elegance or number of our prayers, but the love with which we offer them.

¿Cómo puedo encajar más oración en mi ajetreado día?

“Rezar sin cesar” parece un reto pero no ha de serlo. En realidad los días ocupados ofrecen excelentes oportuni-dades para orar si sabemos dónde mirar. Tengan en cuen-

ta estas sugerencias: Recen a lo largo del día. Recen el Rosar io de camino al traba-jo, bendigan la mesa antes de comer, ofrezcan un breve “Te quiero” o recen pidiendo orientación para una decisión im-portante. Incluso las tareas relacionadas con el trabajo pueden convertirse en “plegarias en acción”. Quince minutos al día. Los Buenos amigos saben que los mensajes de texto no son un sustituto del trato en persona. Lo mismo pasa con Dios. Él nos ama y desea nuestra compañía. Procuren sacar de 10 a 15 minutos al día de oración. Agradezcan a Dios sus gracias, mediten sobre la Escritura, ofrézcanle su día o simplemente disfruten de su compañía. Lo que cuenta es el amor. Por su amor y su humildad, Jesús alabó a una viuda pobre pero generosa por su pequeño donativo (Marcos 12:43-44). A veces tenemos poco tiempo o energía para una “buena oración”. Recuerden que lo que agrada a Dios no es la elegancia o el número de nuestras oraciones, sino el amor con el que las ofrecemos.

Choose Heaven over Earth

Life on Earth lasts but a moment compared to our eternal life, yet we often let earthly concerns take priority over preparing for Heaven. If we put Heaven rst, however, God will take care of everything else. What is important to you? Make a list of what you do each day, from morning to bedtime. The activities that absorb most of your time are your real priorities. If it isn’t in God’s service, you need a change. How do you make decisions? Do you look to fr iends or coworkers for advice? Or do you turn to prayer and Scripture for guidance? Resolve to take your eyes off of the world and place them on Christ. If we base all choices and decisions on God, we will never choose wrong. Do you trust God to make you happy? “For I know well the plans I have in mind for you, says the Lord, plans for your wel-fare, not for woe! Plans to give you a future full of hope” (Jeremiah 29:11).

GOSPEL MEDITATION - ENCOURAGE DEEPER UN-DERSTANDING OF SCRIPTURE February 23rd, 2020 7th Sunday in Ordinary Time The Gospels continue to challenge us to the core. This is espe-cially true in the way our social relationships have developed. Feeling safe and secure in the world are not things that come easily these days. Actually, we may find ourselves feeling more reservation, caution, reluctance, and fear than ever before. In a moment’s notice, life can drastically change. When someone has been intentionally and violently hurt, especially someone we love, we can all too easily find ourselves very attracted to the Old Testament philosophy of “an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.” Intellectually, we know this is not what Jesus wants us to do. But on some level it just seems to make practical or even political sense. After all, why should we allow someone to get away with a heinously violent act? Yet, Jesus cannot be any clearer than he is with this! Offer no resistance to one who is evil. Turn the oth-er cheek as well. When pressed into service, go two miles. Do not turn your back on one who wants to borrow. Love your ene-mies. Now, take a moment to reflect on all of this. Consider a horrible act of violence committed against someone you love. Listen. Think. Be honest. Can you do as Jesus directs? We want to be holy. But we are more comfortable with a defini-tion of holiness that can keep us saying our prayers and on our knees in church. We are not comfortable with a definition of holiness that has something to say about to how we react to and negotiate life. We like to keep a sharp and strong line between the secular and the sacred. In fact, we would prefer that the doors between them be kept closed. God wants us to be holy as He is holy. If God sees this one way and we see it another, then where does this leave us on our journey to God? Our minds like the practical, worldly, and secular answers to things. They are more black and white and at first glance appear to make more sense. Holiness wells up from our souls and is beyond reason. It cannot be explained. It is something we just simply know comes as a result of deep prayer. The truly contem-plative eye knows inwardly that what Jesus asks is true and then willingly does it. It may not be easy. ©LPi

MEDITACIÓN DEL EVANGÉLIO – ALENTAR UN EN-TENDIMIENTO MÁS PROFUNDO DE LA ESCRITURA (Gospel Meditations) 7º Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario 23 de febrero de 2020

Existe una relación profunda entre la Primera Lectura y el Evangelio de la Liturgia de hoy. Moisés, manda-do por el Señor, habla a la asamblea de la siguiente manera: “Sean santos, porque yo, el Señor, soy san-to.” (Levítico 19:2). Se daba la ley de la santidad don-de toda la asamblea era invitada. Dios, por medio de Moisés, ordenaba al pueblo de Israel a ser santo como Él. Jesús daba a sus discípulos la misma dirección, no solo de santidad sino de perfección. ¡Santos y perfec-tos! Cada día es una oportunidad para ser mejor que el día anterior; es una oportunidad perfecta para escalar la santidad. Jesús, en el Evangelio, habla hasta de si alguien “te golpea la mejilla derecha, ofrécele tam-bién la otra.” (Mateo 5:39). ¿Qué significa esto? ¿Cómo vivirlo en la sociedad violenta en que vivi-mos? Significa que todos debemos de poner un granito de arena yendo más allá de las necesidades de la otra persona; no se acepta el conformismo. La perfección es precisamente estirar el servicio al otro hasta que duela. Es decir, haciendo actos buenos sin dramatis-mo. Visitar un enfermo, saludar al vecino, escuchán-dose en familia sin gritos ni peleas que lastiman y amargan el día. La santidad se construye con actos pequeños; los santos así se forjaron. Santa Teresa de Calcuta decía que: “Haz cosas ordinarias con un amor extraordinario. El amor comienza en casa, y no es cuánto hacemos, sino por la cantidad de amor que ponemos en la acción que hacemos.” (Solía decir es-tas palabras, según un sacerdote amigo de ella). ©LPi
