MEMORIALS: The Sanctuary Lamp and the

Bread and Wine may be memorialized in memory of

a loved one or for a special intention. The cost for

each is $25.00. Please call the rectory to reserve.

Mass Reservations A reservation system for Sunday Masses is in place with

a seating capacity of 80 per Mass. This reflects 25% of

our official capacity. Although the capacity was raised to

34%, OLS will continue to retain the 25%. If a particular

Mass “maxes out” at 25% for three consecutive weeks,

the “Re-opening Task Force” will be consulted as to how

to best accommodate the additional attendees. We

continue to encourage all parishioners to use the

reservation link which is located on our website

www.olscc.com Please print your confirmation and

bring it to Mass with you. Members of the Task Force

will be on hand before and after Mass to assist attendees.

Family “units” may sit together.

Remember…You do not have an obligation to go to

Mass during the coronavirus pandemic. Cardinal Dolan

has dispensed us from the obligation to attend Sunday

Mass at this time. Please join us for Mass in the church

only when you feel safe and comfortable to do so. As an

alternative, you can watch Mass on-line or on T.V. and

make an Act of Spiritual Communion (see below) when

you are unable to physically receive the Eucharist.

Prayer for a Spiritual Communion:

My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Most

Holy Sacrament. I love you above all things and I

desire to receive you in my soul.

Since I cannot at this moment receive you

sacramentally,

Come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace you as if you were already there

And unite myself wholly to you.

Never permit me to be separated from you.

Amen.

O.L.S. Face Masks As a result of the pandemic and the need to remain safe,

the O.L.S. Lady’s Guild is selling soft and comfortable

2-ply breathable polyester face masks. The cost is $10

each or 4 for $35. If you wish to order, please email

[email protected] or contact Margaret

Kamna at 914-826-5890. Let’s show our parish pride and

purchase a mask(s).

Please note: to be sure we have an updated email

address for you to receive communications (only

from O.L.S.) please provide your email address to

A Note from Fr. Tim

Tuesday, September 15 is the Feast of Our Lady of

Sorrows, the patroness of our parish. On this day, we

honor not only the personal sorrows of Mary, Mother of

Jesus – but the sufferings she shares as Mother of the

Church.

Since the onset of the pandemic, many events have been

cancelled, re-scheduled or re-purposed. As a parish

family, we are not cancelling nor re-scheduling our

celebration. However, we will re-purpose.

This year we will celebrate our Patroness’ Feast Day

on Sunday, September 13 with an outdoor Mass

beginning at 12:00 noon. The Mass will be held on the

lawn at the back of the large parking lot. Parishioners are

asked to maintain social distances (at least 6 feet), bring

their own chairs and wear our special O.L.S. masks at all

times which can be purchased by visiting:

www.ourlady’[email protected].

Unfortunately, we will be unable to break bread together

afterwards. A special homemade treat will be given to all

families as they exit the Mass and return to their cars by

the members of the Parish Council. In case of rain, the

Mass will be held in the church. May Mary’s faith and

courage inspire us in our trials!

Please consult our parish website for the parish bulletin

and other important announcements.

This Sunday’s Readings

First Reading: Ezekiel 33:7-9

God has appointed the prophet as a watchman over

his people. If he fails to give them warning against

sin, he will be held responsible.

Second Reading: Romans 13:8-10

In this beautiful letter, Paul says that all

commandments are contained in this: “You shall

love your neighbor as yourself.”

Gospel: Matthew 18:15-20

Jesus explains to his disciples how to respond to

those who wrong them – with gentleness and

practical wisdom. He promises that whenever “two

or three are gathered in my name, there am I in their

midst.” ©1999 Bon Venture Services, Inc.

O.L.S.’s Religious Education program will begin on

Sunday, September 20, 2020 and end on Sunday,

May 23, 2021. It will be different than in the past as we

deal with the Cornoavirus pandemic.

From September 2020 - January 2021, our program will

be a hybrid model family-based (remote learning) with

at-home assignments and monthly in-person catechesis

(family gatherings) in the church which is already set up

for “distancing” according to NY State guidelines. All

materials - books, visual materials and support will be

supplied to the students. The program will be reviewed

prior to the start of the January 2021- May 2021

semester.

Please do not wait to register. All families

must be registered parishioners of O.L.S. parish in order

for your children to attend our Religious Education

program. If you have any questions or for registration

forms, please email Mrs. Jen DeMilio at

[email protected] or call her at 914-949-3896. We

look forward to educating your children in the Catholic

Faith.

Pontifical Holy Land Collection – September 13 Because the Covid-19 pandemic precluded the normal

celebration of Holy Week and Good Friday, Pope Francis

has approved that a collection be taken in September near

the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. O.L.S. will

take up this collection on Sunday, September 13. The

Christian communities in the Holy Land have been

suffering for many years. Your offering allows God’s

people to continue their evangelical presence in the Holy

Land. Your support helps the Franciscan Friars to

preserve the sacred shrines, maintain schools and

charitable structures.

~~~~~~~~~~
O.L.S. Collections The weekly collection remains absolutely essential to
parish operations, especially during this pandemic.
Thank you to those parishioners who are placing their
contributions into the collection basket at Sunday Mass,
dropping off or mailing their contributions to the rectory
office, participating in electronic giving by using
We Share or “making up” their contributions
Congratulations to Nolan Constantino, Owen Dowicz, Dominic Norfleet and Lily Onorato who received the
Sacrament of Confirmation at Our Lady of Sorrows on Saturday, August 22.
and Congratulations to Sebastian Pirone and Sabrina Willis
who received their First Holy Communion at Our Lady of Sorrows on Saturday, August 29.
Two Celebrations
Labor Day – September 7 The first Labor Day was held in 1882. Its origins stem
from the desire of the Central Labor Union to create a
holiday for workers. It became a federal holiday in 1894.
It was originally intended that the day would include a
street parade to allow the public to appreciate the work of
the trade and labor organizations. After the parade, a
festival was to be held to amuse local workers and their
families. In later years, prominent men and women gave
speeches. This is less common now, but is sometimes
seen in election years.
“God commanded us to inhabit the earth and care for it
until a new heaven and a new earth came to be. To
accomplish God’s purpose, we work with God. Let us
therefore bless God from our hearts for his wonderful
plan and pray that God will protect and sustain us as we
work. On this day we thank God for all who still have
jobs. And Lord help those seeking employment to find
it.” In celebration of Labor Day, the rectory office will
be closed on Monday, September 7.
~~~~~~~~~~

Birth of Mary – September 8 We can see every human birth as a call for new hope in

the world. The love of two human beings has joined with

God in His creative work. The loving parents have

shown hope in a world filled with travail. The new child

has the potential to be a channel of God’s love and peace

to the world.

This is all true in a magnificent way in Mary. If Jesus is

the perfect expression of God’s love, Mary is the

foreshadowing of that love. If Jesus has brought the

fullness of salvation, Mary is its dawning.

Birthday celebrations bring happiness to the celebrant as

well as to family and friends. Next to the birth of Jesus,

Mary’s birth offers the greatest possible happiness to the

world. Each time we celebrate her birth we can

confidently hope for an increase of peace in our hearts

and in the world at large.
