From the Pastor’s Desk Dear Parishioners: No doubt the prospect of a new weekend Mass Schedule has generated some discussion and I can presume no lack of consternation among a few of our parishioners! In any case, I am very grateful for your response to the “ballot process” we utilized to come to a final choice in our schedule. It was truly amazing when one considers that we received 1158 responses when our average weekly attendance (children and infants included) is 1844. The result of this “opinion poll” reveals that “Schedule A” was by far the preferred schedule. At last week’s Masses and in the bulletin I mentioned that adjusting a Mass schedule is one of the most stressful actions that can affect a parish. This is why I wanted to offer an opportunity for you to “weigh in” on the decision. Obviously, everyone has his or her own preferences or opinions, and much preliminary work—which took into account many factors (having two churches, only two priests, church size, trends in attendance, and compliance with Canon Law)—went into the formulation of the options presented. Both schedules presented would have been viable and acceptable. We are pleased to abide with the majority opinion. I can appreciate the comments on a number of “ballots.” However, a few harken back to a time when parishes had one church with four resident priests. How I pray that we might return to such a time but this is not our current reality. I rely on your good spirit of cooperation, loyalty, and support as we move forward. Let us keep our one parish strong and our two churches filled with faith filled and loving people! With affection and gratitude, Msgr. Gervasio

Update The OLS Handicap Parking Proposal

During the last few weeks we have asked those parishioners who frequent Our Lady of Sorrows to express their views on a plan that would create a new parking area that would bring handicap parking spaces closer to the church and office entrance. The plan designed by Lanning Engineering, Hamilton is displayed by the elevator entrance. It is a response to many comments included in our recent survey that urged us to try to remedy the problem of having handicapped parking far from entrance. Our concern was not the need for extra parking spaces but the need to provide closer access to our entrance to shorten an arduous walk for the handicapped and elderly. Thus far, only 38 parishioners have submitted an opinion. Twenty-eight parishioners support the plan while ten indicated that the plan is unnecessary for varied reasons. I would hope that many more parishioners would express their opinion on the proposal either through the forms at the display by the entrance or through an email to the parish office. I would be uncomfortable to move forward with such an extensive project without robust support from our parish! Thanks! Msgr. Gervasio

Our Lady of Sorrows—Our Solemnity Mary…our Patron and Titular

Thursday, September 15, is the Memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows. However, since Our Lady under this title is the co-patron of our parish, this Memorial is raised to the rank of "Solemnity" within our community. Since Mary is also the "titular" of our

parish church, which is to say that the church building has been dedicated or given the title of Our Lady of Sorrows, we are permitted to move the celebration to Sunday, September 18. All Masses of the day will be celebrated as the rank of a "Solemnity." The parish will continue the celebration at the Parish Picnic following the 11:00 Mass.

Mesaj ki soti nan biwo Kire-a Frè-m ak Sè-m yo: Pap gen dout ke pespektiv de yon ore Lames nan wiken ap jenere kek diskisyon e menm kapab prezimen pou gen konstenasyon nan pami kek pawasyen nou yo! An touka, mwen tre rekonesan pou repons w a "pwosesis vote a" ke nou te itilize pou yon chwa definitif nan ore nou. Nou ta kontan mete nou avek opinyon majorite a. Mwen kapab apresye komante sou seten nomb de "bilten de vot". Sepandan, le nap sonje yon epok nan pawas nou yo te konn genyen 1 Legliz ak 4 Pe kap viv nan presbite a. Nou ta renmen retounen nan anabyans sa a anko men se pa yon reyalite aktyel. Mwen konte sou bon lespri de konpreansyon w, lwayote w ak sipo w pandan nap avanse pi devan. An nou kenbe pawas nou an fo ak 2 Legliz nou yo ranpli ak lafwa, ranpli ak bon moun!

Avek afeksyon e gratitid, Msgr. Gervasio
