Weekly Halacha - Parshas Ki Seitzei R’ Mordechai Torczyner – [email protected]

Should I apologize for harming someone, if the disclosure itself could anger the victim?

We are required to apologize for harming others, specifying what we’ve done wrong, even if that disclosure would embarrass us. However, we are also required to avoid harming our victims in the course of apologizing. Therefore, one who genuinely believes that describing the sin would upset his victim should only apologize in general terms, without explaining exactly what he had done.

PARSHA QUESTIONS - KI SEITZEI

First Aliyah: (21:10) Why state that you will go out to war against “your enemy” – with

whom else would one go out to war!?

Second Aliyah: (22:5) Why is the prohibition of transvestitism positioned after the law

of helping a stumbling animal and before the law of sending away the mother bird?

Third Aliyah: Why is the letter “heh” missing so many times from the word, “na’arah”

in this section?

Fourth Aliyah: (23:23) Why does the Torah have to assure me that when I don’t take

vows I’m not sinning – isn’t that fairly obvious?

Fifth Aliyah: (23:25-26) Why does the Torah need to give examples of a worker eating

in the field for both grapes and wheat – why isn’t one example sufficient?

Sixth Aliyah: (24:7-8) Why are the laws of kidnapping and tzora’as adjacent to each

other?

Seventh Aliyah: (24:16) Is it always true that parents don’t pay for the crimes of their

children and children don’t pay for the crimes of their parents (See Ex. 34:7)?

PLEASE REFRAIN FROM BRINGING YOUR SHAIMOS TO BAYT

Please do not leave your shaimos in the shul building. This incurs an expense for the shul as well as manpower to deal with it.

There is an annual pre-Pesach shaimos service in the parking lot for your convenience.

The shul is now monitored and those found leaving shaimos will be contacted to retrieve what they left.

Pardes Shalom Cemetery accepts Shaimos during the year: 905-832-2549

IMPORTANT NOTE TO PARENTS

Parents are reminded that they are responsible for their children while on Shul property. Every child must be in a Minyan or with a parent. This is essential for the safety of our children and the protection of Shul property. The Shul will demand reimbursement from any parent whose child is found damaging Shulproperty.

Strollers & Carriages

We have limited space for storage of strollers and baby carriages in the utility room behind the lower floor elevator. Unfortunately, they cannot be stored in the building hallways and lobbies since they present a hazard in the event of a required evacuation. Any strollers found in the hallways will be relocated to the utility room.

ANNOUNCEMENTSANNOUNCEMENTSANNOUNCEMENTS

Facility staff are not permitted to leave shul property during working hours for personal requests of

members or non members.

A PRACTICAL INCLUSION TIP So ALL of Us Feel Valued and Welcome at BAYT

WHY DO WE FEAR INCLUSION? I suspect that our discomfort with people with disabilities may have something to do with our fear of being in that situation ourselves one day. One might imagine that it would make us more compassionate. But denial may be an even more powerful emotion that we trigger when confronted with a circumstance that we are not prepared to confront. If we take to heart the Jewish teaching about every person made in the image of God and recall that one person is no better nor worse than the other, simply “differently-abled” we might be better able to open up our hearts, and our institutions to a wider swath of humanity. (from “A Jewish Approach to the Differently-Abled”, by Rabbi Sid Scwharz)
