Saint of the Week Sts. Perpetua & Felicity

Perpetua, a noblewoman and mother of a nursing child, and her

slave Felicity, far advanced in pregnancy, died at Carthage in the amphitheater during the persecutions of Septimus Severus in the 3rd century. They had been imprisoned before being baptized. Perpetua herself wrote a description of the prison, and her words were collected by Tertullian. The two women died tied to a net, torn in pieces by a bullock.

In art, they are usually depicted together, sometimes with the animal.

Felicity is the protector of women in childbirth.

Both names are of Latin origin. Perpetua indicates eternal faith in Christ; Felicity means “happiness.” ** Taken from Saints– A Year in Faith and Art by Rosa Giorgi

Please pray for the Church in our Diocese

Heavenly Father, Bless your Church with an abundance of holy and zealous priests, deacons, brothers, and sisters. Give those you have called to the married state and those you have chosen to live as single persons in the world, the special graces that their lives require. Form us all in the likeness of your Son, so that in Him, with Him, and through Him, we may love you more deeply and serve you more faithfully, always and everywhere.

With Mary we ask this through Christ our Lord.

This week we pray especially for:

Eric Mashak of St. John the Baptist Parish in Bloomer, WI

College IV Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary

Prayer Intention of the Week:

For all who have never heard the

Gospel, that thanks to the work of

preachers and the witness of

each of us, all people may hear

and believe the Good News

2 Welcome to Our Lady of Peace Parish · Marshfield

Pope Francis proposes these 15 simple acts of charity as concrete manifestations of love:

1. SMILE. A Christian is always cheerful 2. Say THANK YOU for little things (even if you don't have to).

3. Remind others how much you LOVE them.

4. GREET with joy the persons you see every day.

5. LISTEN to other people's stories without prejudice, and with love.

6. STOP to help. Pay attention to whoever needs you.

7. Try to RAISE the spirits of people around you.

8. CELEBRATE the qualities or success of others, thus avoiding envy or jealousy.

9. SORT OUT the things you no longer use or need, and give them to those in need.

10. Be ready to HELP when you are needed so that others may rest.

11. GIVE CORRECTIONS with love, do not keep quiet out of fear.

12. Maintain GOOD RELATIONS with those around you.

13. Keep CLEAN the things you use in the house.

14. HELP others overcome obstacles.

15. CALL, and call on, your parents more often.

THE BEST FASTING:

I recommend the following as better fasting during this Lent.

• Fast on offensive words and transmit only sweet and tender words

• Fast on dissatisfaction and fill yourself with gratitude.

• Fast on anger and fill yourself with meekness and patience.

• Fast on pessimism and be filled with optimism

• Fast on worries and be filled with confidence in God

• Fast on laments and take pleasure in the simple things of life.

• Fast on stress and fill yourself with prayer.

• Fast on sadness and bitterness, and fill your heart with joy.

• Fast on selfishness, and be filled with compassion for others.

• Fast on unforgivingness and vendetta, and be filled with facts of reconciliation and forgiveness.

• Fast on words and fill yourself with silence and readiness to listen to others.

If we all practice this style of fasting, our everyday will be filled with peace, joy trust in each other, and life.

From Our Pope

Gift Presentation: Would you consider carrying up the offertory gifts at Mass with your family, your spouse, or even by yourself? All you need to do is let the ushers know before Mass that you are willing to do it. It would be wonderful to see new faces presenting before the Lord our earthly gifts that become the Eucharist.

Sacraments Baptism - Parents requesting to have a child baptized are invited to call Father Berns directly at 715-384-9414. He will assist with any baptism preparation and scheduling a date.

Reconciliation - Celebrated on Saturdays from 4:30-5:15pm and upon request. Communal Penance Services are held during Advent and Lent.

First Eucharist and Confirmation - Ongoing catechesis is essential in the faith formation of the youth of Our Lady Peace Parish (OLP). Therefore, any child must be enrolled continually from the First Grade, in either Columbus Catholic Schools or OLP’s Religious Education Programs, to receive either the Sacraments of First Eucharist or Confirmation.

RCIA Christian Initiation of Adults - Anyone interested in joining the Catholic Church should contact Sister Virdean Meyer at 715-384-3044. Classes begin each Fall.

Marriage - Knowing how important it is to marry in the Church, we are happy to see weddings take place in our parish. Father Berns looks forward to meeting with engaged couples to assist them in marriage preparation. As this preparation takes time, couples are asked to contact Fr. Berns 8-12 months before the wedding.

Anointing of the Sick - If any parishioner is ill at home or going into the hospital and would like to receive the Anointing of the Sick, please contact Father Berns at 715-384-9414. A Mass of Healing with anointing is celebrated during the year.

New Parishioners - To join our community, please register at the Parish Office or call 715-384-9414 Ext. 2.

That Man is You– Week 18 “Receiving the Gift of Mary ”

Please join us Tuesday morning for another powerful session. This week we learn about ways to grow closer to Christ through Mary.

THOUGHTS FROM FR. RAJAN *No matter how many times the teeth bite the tongue, they still stay together in one mouth. That's the spirit of FORGIVENESS. Even though the eyes don't see each other, they see things together, blink simultaneously and cry together. That's UNITY."

May the Lord grant us all the spirit of forgiveness and togetherness*.1''Alone I can 'Say' but together we can 'talk'. 2. "Alone I can 'Enjoy' but together we can celebrate 3.'Alone I can 'Smile' but together we can 'Laugh'.

are to abstain, except those with medical conditions, from meat on Ash

Wednesday, all Fridays during Lent and Good Friday. In addition to

abstaining from meat, Catholics who have celebrated their 18th

birthday, until they celebrate their 59th birthday, are to fast, except

those with medical conditions, on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.

Those bound by this regulation may eat only one full meal a day. Two

smaller meals are permitted, if necessary, to maintain strength

according to one’s needs, but eating solid foods between

is not permitted.

Bread & Broth Wednesdays in Lent One of our beautiful traditions at Our Lady of Peace is that during Lent we gather after the 5:30

Mass each Wednesday to share a simple meal of homemade soups, bread, cheese, and beverages.

To be able to do this we need volunteers: to make soups and breads,

to set up, serve, or clean up

Sign-up sheets for each week are available at the hospitality desk in the church entrance. We are in need of volunteers for the last three weeks of Lent.

CRS Rice Bowls: As we begin our Lenten journey, may our fasting be a hunger for justice,

our alms an offering of peace, and our prayers the reflection of humble and grateful hearts. We ask

the Holy Spirit to accompany us on this journey of encounter as we spend these 40 days between Ash Wednesday and Easter

Sunday, and CRS Rice Bowl has resources for each one. Pick up your Rice Bowls at the Church entrances this weekend. You can follow along through the days of Lent with the enclosed calendar.

An announcement will be in the bulletin about when to return the boxes to Church at the end of the Lenten season.
