On Wednesday evening next, at 7 :30

o'clock the installation of the newly elect-

ed officers of Carlton post will take place,to which all comrades of the G. A. R.,who mav happen to be in the city are

fraternally invited to be present. On thesame evening at 8 :30 o'clock there will

be an camp fire at the Posthall (sontb of the Bridge street bridge),to which til old solders and their fami-

lies whether members of the grand armyor not, are cordially invited. A generalreunion will be had, old stories told andold songs sung, and the mess-coo-k will

do his duty.It is understood thar the Equitable Life

Assurance society of the United Statesis prepared to appoint a general agentfor Arizona under s contract with thehead office. This opening is a great op-

portunity for a live insurance man of the

right stamp. The Equitable is justly re-

garded as one of the - most reliable and

ably conducted life insurance com

panies in the country, having a surplusof nearly $25,000,000, and assets exceed-

ing $100,000,000. Successful life insur-

ance men open to engagements shouldaddress Mr. E. W. Scott, third vice presi-dent of the society, in New York."E. R. Stafford, a well known civil

engineer, is in the city, having just leftthe Pecos valley, where he acted as chiefengineer on the construction of thePecos valley railroad. He announcesthat this line is finished as far as Eddy, and trains in operation thereon.. Mr.Stafford is daily awaiting orders from W.C. Bradburry & Co., of Denver, withreference to the location of another lineof railway in New Mexico. Of this newline more anon.

The Pacific mine No. 1, is shippingthirty tons of ore per dav to the mill located above the city. The ore is millingwell, and the mine is in excellent condi-tion for working. Eight teams withtrail wagon are employed in transportingthe ore from the mine to tho mill. En-

little over twelve hundred feet. Aboutone hundred and fifty feet this side of thetunnel they have mu in about fifty feeton a vein that bids fair to develop into atine body of paying ore. This vein hasabout tw o foot of high-grad- e pay ore in it,and so far is widening. This was thevein that the tunnel cut the apex of some-time ago.

Cerrillos Rustler: Manager McLaugh-lin, of the San Pedro Copper mines, wasin town during the past week, giving at-

In this conne tion it is assertedthat probably no more than half asmany men are likely to be employed asduring the boom time of a year ago, butthat a better output is anticipated on ac-

count of improved m9chiuerv.

tear its nether gurruent; the Republicanmajority iu the council knows what it is

about ; the seven Republican members of

the council Messrs. J Frank Chaves, Pedro

I'erea, T. B. Catron, Juan Santistevan,Pedro 1. Jaramillo, J. A. Ancheta and E.S. Stover, are public spirited, honorableand respected citizens; they are all prop-

erty owners and tax payers; theyhave the best interests of the peopleat heart; with ihe exception of Mr. An-

cheta, they, each and every one, havehad large experience in legislation and

public affairs. These seven councilmen

(probably aided by Mr. Mills of San Mi-

guel) will go on and do their duty by thepeople, by their constituents, by their

party and by themselves. The partisanactions of the bouse w ill affect them not.No member of the council will be unseat-
